Intro

• For Media I was asked to create a preliminary task in which I would design a School magazine , front cover and contents page. I would conduct a research and planning exercise in which I would plan my Title , colour scheme , typography (etc).Overall this will help improve my skills of editing and designing with the network Photoshop, this will ultimately support me in designing my Music Magazine in the near future.

Research Task/ Evaluation of School magazine

• The concept of my magazine was to produce a magazine for Preston Manor school , specifically targeting those from the ages of sixteen to eighteen which is the sixth form year group. My magazine would be a weekly brief informative to things which would concern ,interest or have some type of relevance to my target audience. In the process of designing my magazine front cover I first needed to think of a suitable name for the magazine which would be relevant to my target audience , the title was key as it would be the catalyst to further design with my front cover. I chose to use the title ‘@P.Manor’ , I chose this as I found it related to the ages of sixteen to eighteen in which the generation is heavily reliant on the internet not only for work and reliable sources for studies but also with emergences of new networks m the ability to communicate socially. My target audience would find similarities with my Magazine title and twitter , I also came up with the idea of having my own Twitter page which gives not only the title but my whole magazine a backbone , but as a realistic option I added the address for the school website where the school magazine would be placed in its own column. As my magazine is for all sixth formers and not specifically for one gender I made sure not to use the stereotypical colours associated with the separate genders (Blue for boys , Pink for girls). I used the colour red for the font as I believe red is the most eye catching colour and often is associated with serious news/breaking news and is used in various other highly regarded magazines such as . Furthermore I used the colours black , white and silver , these are often fairly dull colours with magazine covers but work well to add more attention to the red font which is what all magazines want , in order to lure the audience in with their stories. I had a fair amount of trouble with choosing my main image as it was required to be a medium shot , I did eventually find an image. I choose this image as my model’s facial expression is rather peculiar and unusual which I found to be an appealing quality to my magazine which may make the reader want to read on , the image refers to the characteristics of the model and infers a perplexing and interesting story. When deciding on my main story I wanted it to be something the majority of my audience would be able to refer to , due to this I placed my model as a member of the school band ,which would be widely publicised. My main story was an exclusive interview with Jamal to converse about the success of the band , however from research of other magazines I acknowledged many main stories have controversy and scandal which at the end of the day interests audiences to read on. I decided to change my main story into a controversial break up of the school band which has shocked the school , with my model giving an exclusive interview revealing all about it, I found this would be much more interesting to read on about.
