The concept of net metering is something that works as an incentive for both – the supplier

and the consumer. Net Metering is essentially the process of giving back surplus energy being

produced to the grid. Govt./ Discoms gives rebate on extra energy supplied to the them / grid.

Rooftop Solar Vs. Grid Power

• Whether rooftop solar is more expensive than grid power depends on your current

tariff and consumption slab.

• Rooftop solar may be cheaper than grid power, depending on the state and the

specific consumer category. A Commercial Consumer in Mumbai consuming

greater than 500 kWh in a billing cycle will pay Rs 11.91/kWh which is much much

more expensive than rooftop solar power, which is Rs 7-8/kWh.
