The Ohio University College of Business (CoB) has offered courses in business administration for more than a century.

Our program is based on the four essentials we believe provide the foundation for success in the business world: entrepreneurship,

strategic leadership, global perspective, and professional development. We provide you with experiential, application-based, thorough

knowledge of business disciplines with emphasis on these areas.

We don’t just stop at making you proficient in business fundamentals. We teach you to think critically and challenge the status quo.

At the College of Business, we care about you. Our class sizes are small, which allows us to focus on your individual development.

Our classes are taught by experienced faculty with significant business connections, not by teaching assistants. We work hard to

ensure that our student body reflects the many faces of global business, so you’ll be ready to work in a multicultural world.

We pick best-in-class students, so you’ll be surrounded by high-performing peers who will inspire you to do your best. All of our

faculty have worked or have deep contacts in the business community from the local level to worldwide. And we are accredited by

the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Of the more than 1,200 colleges and universities in the United States

offering business degrees, only 261 of them are accredited at both the master’s and bachelor’s degree levels. We are proud to be part

of that elite group.THE COLLEGE OF BUSINESSADVANTAGE

HOW YOU LEARN

In business, things don’t fit in tidy functional boxes. It is a complex and multi-disciplined world. And, more importantly, there is not one “right answer”.

We don’t lecture you into becoming a business leader. Our focus is on learning by doing. An example of this is our Business Cluster where rather than teach core subjects as isolated units, our unique approach combines traditionally independent classes into one integrated class taught by a team of professors. This business cluster combines management, marketing, management information systems, and finance.

Workinginteams, youarechallengedtosolveauthenticbusinessproblems.Hereyoulearnandintegratekeyconceptswhilegainingpractical experience in leadership, time management, teamwork, problem solving, and analytical thinking. This is truly a transformational experience.

Likewise, we know you won’t become a leader attending seminars. We don’t just teach you about leadership—we put you face-to-face with current businesspeople who are out there leading companies and industries. You’ll have plenty of chances to put your leadership skills to the test, with more than 25 student organizations and multiple practicum opportunities. Our classrooms are where you are challenged and motivated to think outside the box.

Here’sasampleofhowourstudentslearn:

• The Student Equity Management Group: You learn advanced equity research methods by using state-of- the-art investment tools (including a dedicated on-campus trading room) to help manage a $2 million equity fund.

• The Select Leadership Development Program: A unique program that accelerates personal growth, professional development, and leadership identity of high-potential students using principle-based leadership practices. Through the process of discovery, application, and evolution, students develop skills to differentiate themselves as leaders.

• SOX 404 Fellows Program: Put your accounting knowledge to work as you audit the accounts of the Ohio University Foundation. SOX Fellows document existing controls, determine sufficiency of internal controls in place, and assess the effectiveness of those internal controls.

• The Student Fixed-Income Management Group: This student-run management group helps manage $2 million fixed-income securities fund for the Ohio University Foundation.

WHY OUR MOD WOR

WHAT YOU LEARN

Anybody can study a theory.

We believe you truly learn when you start applying your ideas.

You see, there’s more to success than what you learn in a classroom,

and there’s more to knowledge than what you get in a book.

The level of success you are looking for comes through practice.

We provide the right environment for you to test your knowledge

and your ability to apply it. We teach you to be competent, creative,

and confident—skills that will last you a lifetime.

At the College of Business, we work with you to create a

customized, well-rounded, and hands-on learning experience.

During your first year, you will complete your general education

requirements and build a foundation in economics, mathematics,

and communication skills. Within the college, you will participate in

a number of activities that will connect you with your peers,

faculty, and critical business programs.

WHY OUR MODEL WORKS

Our combination of classroom learning and real-world application

works—just ask any of our thousands of successful alumni.

They’ll tell you that they did things at the College of Business that

they could never have done somewhere else.

For example, you can learn about investment strategies anywhere.

But how many business schools are so confident in their students’

skills that they’ll trust them to manage over $2 million in University

funds?TheStudentEquityManagementGroupletsyoudojust

eight consecutive years.)

Our success is evident in the achievements of our students. From

the day you enter our halls, you can connect with successful people

around the word through our alumni network. And you’ll want to

connect to them, because you’ll be learning the art of leveraging

your connections. Developing new relationships and building on the

ones you have is a core skill that’s vital to your career.

The level of success you’re looking for requires more

than just knowledge. It requires experience, training,

and application.

The College of Business offers five unique centers that

provide you with hands-on opportunities to enhance your

learning and gain valuable experience.

THE RALPH AND LUCI SCHEY SALES CENTRE

Fifty percent of all college graduates take their first professional job in either a sales or sales-related role. The Schey Sales Centre—

a certificate program available to all Ohio University students and dedicated to developing tomorrow’s sales stars and leaders—

could be your passport to a great job upon graduation.

CENTER FOR SPORTS ADMINISTRATION

Forty years ago when the idea for an academic program built around sports administration came to fruition, one could hardly predict

the level of complexity that characterizes the sports industry today. Through the years, the sports industry has continued to evolve,

becoming increasingly global in its approach to business. Ohio University’s Center for Sports Administration was founded to serve as

a resource to solve the increasingly difficult issues facing the sports industry.

THE RALPH AND LUCI SCHEY SALES CENTRE

Established by the Ohio University Board of Trustees in 1997 as one of the first 10 collegiate sales programs in the

country, the Schey Sales Centre’s unique combination of:

1. inside the classroom, real sales readiness training curriculum;

2. outside the classroom self discovery, personal growth, and professional development; and

3. practical experience helping run the Schey Sales Centre as a small “business”

gives our students a “fair-unfair” advantage getting the best sales jobs upon graduation and jump-starts successful careers.

Recent “transformational” initiatives outside the classroom include:

1. a new assessment strategy that allows our students to understand their personality preferences, know their strengths, and learn

which type of sales job fits them best while in college—we call it the Path to Self Discovery

2. two cross-cultural, communication competency workshops during the school year that teach our students how to work and

succeed in today’s diverse workplace

3. formation of the SalesCats—a team that competes in collegiate sales competitions around the country

Significant achievement: We’ve finished in the top 10 of 64 schools four out of the last five years in the oldest and

most well-known competition, the National Collegiate Sales Competition.

“I am so happy that my diploma says ‘Bachelor of Business Administration, Ohio University.’ More than half of the

OHIO grads that have been hired at my organization in the last year have been identified as top performers,

sizes, personable professors, motivated students, and nationally ranked programs such as the Schey Sales

Centre, my college experience was enhanced through the organizations I was involved in, the countries I

traveled to through the GCP program, and internships I completed. The CoB is the perfect place for students

wanting to stand out and make a difference in college. It features some of the sharpest students on

campus and assists students all the way through in getting a quality education with practical application

to the ‘real world’, coveted internships around the country, and ultimately, full-time jobs with top-ranked

companies in cities all over the country.”
