Our MissionThe College of Business (CoB) Honors Program provides academic achievement-oriented students with a unique, rigorous, high touch, applied learning experience. The Honors Program affords talented students the opportunity to participate in advanced sections of CoB core classes and unique, applied industry research projects. In courses and projects, students will apply their business knowledge to real world problems while collaborating with other high achieving students and engaging with exceptional faculty and business leaders.

AcademicsOur goal is to provide you with a unique and rigorous experience to develop the core business technical skills and applied research skills needed to excel in today’s business environment. You will acquire these advanced skills through our core classes:

ApplicationThe CoB Honors Program has an applied approach to delivering the academic skills outlined above. The program uses problem-based and experiential pedagogy in the context of current industry problems and needs. Our focus includes:

CollaborationSoft skills are essential for success in business. For this reason, we take a social approach to learning and development in our honors programs. The program focuses on developing your ability to work effectively in high performing teams through multiple group projects. You will learn and apply through:

What makes us Traditional academic programs tend to focus on theory and apprenticeship. The CoB Honors Program uses a unique hands-on approach that models current business issues. Our curriculum focuses on combining advanced technical knowledge and analytical skills with application to current industry trends.

We develop high-potential students in a team environment, emulating real-world business problems and anticipating industry fluctuation. Traditional programs tend to focus on theory and academics.

Our approach is more realistic.

You are challenged daily to focus on group and individual advancement in research and analytical skills. By fostering a focus on team building and maintenance you will strengthen your soft skills while applying your technical knowledge to industry problems.

MentoringUpon arriving as a Freshman, you will be assigned a senior student and a faculty mentor. They will provide guidance and support throughout your time at Ohio University.

Honors PortfolioBy the end the program, you have a professional portfolio that summarizes your academic achievements. The portfolio will serve as a reflection of your successes, starting in the first semester. The portfolio will display the your career aspirations and development towards achieving those aspirations.

Service ProjectYou are expected to conduct 10 hours of service each semester in the first three years of the program. Before graduation, as an honors senior, you are responsible for the development and completion of a project for the benefit of future CoB students.

Applied Research Project Special topic seminars are taught by exceptional faculty and visited by business professionals. Topics covered include applied research techniques, business etiquette, and skills necessary to stay competitive.
