A LOOK BACK AT 2019 In the fi rst seson under head coach Ryan Day, Ohio State won its 38th Big Ten Conference title and appeared in the College Football Playoff for the third time in six years.

Ohio State had two fi nalists for the Heisman Trophy - QB Justin Fields and DE Chase Young - and three that fi nished in the top six of the voting (J.K. Dobbins).

The last time one school had three of the top six vote-getters was also Ohio State, back in 1973.

Ohio State was the fi rst team to have a Heisman fi nalist on both off ense and defense.

SIX NATIONAL AWARD FINALISTS

Six Buckeyes, including four who attended the College Football Awards Show in Atlanta (a program record), were fi nalists for major awards.

Chase Young won the Bednarik Award and was a fi nalist for the Maxwell Award. He also won the Nagerski Award, announced on Dec. 9, and the Ted Hendricks Award.

Jeff Okudah was a Thorpe Award fi nalist, J.K. Dobbins was a Doak Walker Award fi nalist and Justin Fields was a Davey O’Brien Award fi nalist.

J.K. Dobbins won the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award.

Additionally, Jordan Fuller was a fi nalist for the Lott IMPACT Award and William V. Campbell Trophy and Liam McCullough was a fi nalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award (nation’s best long-snapper).

ELEVEN OR MORE WINS ... AGAIN

Ohio State has extended its school-record streak of consecutive seasons with 11 or more wins to eight years.

A Citrus Bowl win by Alabama over Michigan gave it a ninth consecutive 11-win season for the longest active streak.

In the last 18 years (since 2002), Ohio State has 13 11-win seasons.

BIG TEN CHAMPIONS

Ohio State has won or shared a Big

Ten Conference divisional title for eight consecutive years.

Ohio State is the fi rst team to win three consecutive outright Big Ten championships.

QUICK LOOK AT 2020

Ohio State returns nine players who started six or more games in 2019 along with a total of 46 letterwinners.

QB Justin Fields is college football’s only returning Heisman Trophy fi nalist from 2019.

Fields was the Big Ten Conference Off ensive Player of the Year and Quarterback of the Year.

Linebacker and off ensive line look to be the Buckeyes’ areas with the most experience, as three starters - C Josh Myers, RT Wyatt Davis and LT Thayer Munford - will anchor the line while Tuf Borland and Pete Werner are back after having played in every game over the past two seasons.

The secondary will be forced to replace three starters, including unamious All-American Jeff Okudah, but is bolstered by the return of Shaun Wade, who was a third team All-Big Ten pick in 2019.

14 EARLY ENROLEES

Ohio State welcomed 14 members of its 25-person recruiting class to campus in January as early enrollees.

It’s the most early enrolees in program history.

Ohio State’s 2020 recruiting class fi nished ranked No. 5 nationally by 247Sports.

TWO NEW ASSISTANTS

Head coach Ryan Day had two staff openings to fi ll this off season and he did so with coaches familar with the program.

Kerry Coombs, who coached Ohio State’s cornerbacks from 2012-17, returned after a two-year run as the cornerbacks coach of the Tennessee Titans. He will be the Buckeyes’ defensive coordinator.

Corey Dennis, who had served for the past fi ve years in a variety of roles and most recently as Senior Quality Control, will coach the quarterbacks.
