OFS-1

Oil Field Service-1: Introduction to Oil Field Service operations including HSE, fatigue management. is 10 day training session in which Schlumberger introduces all new employees to their procedures, training methods and driver training. Our group varies from diesel mechanics, office people and field engineers.

All in all it was a good first day and the instructor has allready given us homework for the week. A group presentation based on what segment we arein the company and what they actually do. Tomorrow we are off on a feild trip to a museum to learn about oil after work and they have even prepared a question sheet for us to answer as we walk around.

huet and sea survival training coz my base is an offshore base.

HUET is helicopter underwater escape training. So basically, they put us in a chopper simulator, pull it down to the pool and turned it upside down, and then we have to get ourselves out of it within 10 seconds. All underwater. It sounds easy when i write about it, but it definitely not in the real practice. Its hard to differentiate which one is the chopper’s door and which one is the window. Especially when u have the water flow to ur nose! and they asked u not to be panic at that situation!!

The sea survival is also pretty kewl. We are taught of the basic survival thingyon the sea.. Like how to jump from the rig to the ocean, how to keep ourselves safe & warm – on which the instructor told me that if we nearly have no fat/small – we are pretty much amongst the first who’ll not survive from hypothermia/cold – , etc :) (Geez, thanks chief for letting me know that fact!).

The next days, i spend most of my time in workshop. U know, dealing with C-spanner, screwdriver, hammers, connect & disconnect tool, etc2. All which are really fun and to be honest, most of the engineers, maintenance crew and

operators there has helped me a lot and been nice. I

I would recommend getting a job with Schlumberger....

You will work hard

You will learn lots

You will not get many days off.

You will work night shift.

You will get treated like crap sometime.

You will use Schlumberger as a stepping stone into the oil and gas industry and one day get a job with a operator.... and then the cycle continues as there will be more new kids working for service companies and you can give them crap and tell them what to do.

BTW, I have now worked for 2 operators since leaving Schlumberger. Without Schlumberger I would of not got the jobs.

PEPTEC

PEPTEC-0/1: During these technical schools basic equipment, wireline tools theory and operational knowledge were introduced. Technical aspects of a triple combo, sonic porosity, cement evaluation, perforation jobs were covered. Ability to work under pressure and deliver quality data in time was established. Basic log interpretation techniques were learned. Advanced HSE knowledge including radiation, pressure, heat safety was obtained.

PEPTEC-2: It covers more complex services than those taught in PEPTEC-1 and includes

Sonic-Scanner, RT-Scanner, CMR, FMI, XPT, TLC,Fishing, LWF, Pipe Recovery as well as interpretation of FMI, CMR and XPT.

MDT: It covers high-tech services including MDT sampling and MDT sampling interpretation.

, its an abbreviation of PEople and TEChnology – FYI, here we abbreviates almost everything :p – PEPTEc 0 is a short course for wireline engineer). This was when we actually being introduced to the logging stuffs and what actually a wireline engineer do:)

During the PEPTEC-0, we did our first logging, winch driving, act as an engineer & operator, do some rig up equipment, and stripped down then built upagain some of the basic equipment used in The Wireline. We study hard (at least.. i like to think we did :p). We were became the most regular canteen customer at dinner time (in fact, it just open for dinner merely because of us.. or the PEPTEC-1 students), and we did spend a night or two at our dearestbeloved learning center. There was even a time when all of us stay late till 3am to do the winch driving exercises and all the weird stuffs start to happen.People sing various songs from different countries – Tong Hua, Arabian songs,christmas jingles, etc. People play ping-pong (table tennis) at midnight and fall asleep infront of our laptops. All ends happily coz the next day, our dearest instructor give us a bonus : Sleep for another 3-4 hours during the day!! How awesome!! :p

Preschool

The average of preschool period is 3-4 months. During this time you will spendmost of the time in front of the computer. If you are lucky that your locationis busy , you will have chance to go to the rig. It is actually nice as you will be there only as an "extra hand". So no pressure for you, no time constraint. Just browsing the rig to get familiar with all the components and all the people.

At the end of the preschool period, you have to pass an online test. the pass mark is 75 % and there is around 90 questions.If you fail it two times, you are out of the company. It is really severe but fair. It is really simple questions, if you have been through all the materials they gave you before. Ifyou fail two times, they judge that you can not attend the first school and then can not perform the job.

If you pass it, you will just have to wait for few days before going to the engineer 1 school.
