As you came to church today, you surely noticed the construction work that is going on in the sanctuary, the “crown removal”, which one parishioner told me sounded like a dental procedure! We are “taking up” the crown in order to add more height to the sanctuary, and to feature the arch on the back wall (which encloses the crucifix and tabernacle).

This current phase of our Harmony and Beauty Project will also include new railings (finally!) and a trim around the center arch, to beautify the transition from tile to wall. We will also be working to match the Divine Mercy Shrine with the Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine. I am very grateful to all of those who contributed to make this next phase of Harmony and Beauty a reality. As we finish up this project during the Lenten season, we can use the construction metaphor to remember that we are all a “work in progress”, and that the Lord continues to labor in each of our lives.

We have done a lot in the past few months, and I have heard such wonderful feedback from parishioners, visitors, priests, and even bishops, about the beauty of our church improvements. Thank you to everyone for your support and patience throughout this process.

As most of you know, the Harmony and Beauty Project was part of my “inheritance” as the new administrator here at Christ the King. I took the good work that was begun by the parishioners and Father Steve, and continued to develop the vision of this project. Father Scott, our staff, our wonderful volunteers and many others also helped with their fresh eyes to ask good questions and propose new ideas.

With the completion of this next phase of Harmony and Beauty, we are finishing up major construction projects in the church. Thank God! The rest of the work we will do will be the art work and altar furnishings that have been in mind since the beginning of this project.

As we go forward, I would like to take the name “Harmony and Beauty” as a theme for all the work we do to maintain and improve the buildings and properties here at Christ the King. “Harmony and Beauty” is a phrase that sums up nicely the vision of what we want to accomplish in all of our work: both inside the buildings of church and school, and outside with the landscaping of our parish.

Harmony: We want the buildings and the landscape of our parish to fit together, to reflect unity, the unity of the family that our parish is. This is a guiding principle for all the work we do.

Beauty: We have an amazing tradition of beauty in the Catholic Church, and it is a great contribution that we can make in the midst of a world that is filled with so much ugliness. Beauty is a thing of God. This principle will help us to raise our minds to the higher purpose of everything we do and have, that is, to raise our minds to God.

I look forward with great hope to all that we will do together here at Christ the King!

In Christ, Pastor

From our Pastor...

Perpetual Adoration It is only natural to be in bed asleep between the hours of 12 and 6 am, but we have a strong need for adorers during those hours. They are special. I know, I have adored now over five years at 1am, and indeed I had to make adjustments; but I would not change my hour now for any other. The still and peace of the night is so conducive to feeling close to our Creator.

Please go to www.cancershrine.org/adoration and choose a ‘graveyard’ hour to adore, or just look at the ‘colored faces’ chart at the entrances of the church and Shrine. Call Dick at (602) 300-8562 to volunteer.

The Nicene Creed I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I be-

lieve in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all

things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered

death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds

from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of

sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Change our hearts this time; Your word says it can be. Change our minds this time. Your life could make us free. We are the people, Your call set apart. Lord, this time change our hearts. Brought by Your hand to the edge of our dreams, One foot in paradise, one in the waste; Drawn by Your promises, still we are lured, By the shadows and the chains we leave behind. Now as we watch, You stretch out Your hands, Off'ring abundances, fullness of joy. Your milk and honey seem distant, unreal, When we have bread and water in our hands, Show us the way that leads to Your side, Over the mountains and sands of the soul. Be for us manna, water from stone, Light which says we never walk alone.

¡Gracias a Dios!
