ISSUE 71 August 2011 THE OFFICIAL UK PUZZLE CLUB Just two new members to go to meet our target for 2011 - Thank you all for making the Club such a success. Our little community has grown steadily over the last years and we are looking forward to our SIXTH birthday next month. To relax, for a challenge or just for fun… there’s a Ravensburger puzzle for everyone! There’s plenty for Club members to enjoy in Ravensburger’s new Autumn puzzle range. “Happy Days” range, featuring paintings by artist Kevin Walsh, has long been a favourite with our members. We’re featuring all 8 designs this month, including the 2 latest additions, Windsor and York. The idea behind the range is deceptively simple – nostalgic scenes of British locations, painted by a hugely popular British artist. Before Kevin creates new “Happy Days” scenes, the locations are carefully chosen, and Kevin will select a view he thinks best represents the place he’s painting. Kevin does a huge amount of research on the resort or town, looking at old photographs and trying to show buildings or scenes that are still recognisable today. Ravensburger are always keen to introduce new ideas to the puzzle market, and their “Natural Impressions” range reflects the trend in the home decoration market for artwork featuring big, bold colour-themed images. Each design comprises 3x500-piece puzzles based on a different colour palette - red, sand or green. The puzzles use high quality close up photographs of objects from the natural world, such as shells, plants, wood grain and pebbles. They’ll certainly be challenging puzzles to complete but once finished we reckon they’ll also make stunning wall art! The puzzles are supplied in one bag, but the reverse side of each one is printed with a different pattern, so sorting the pieces will be simple. Each of the finished puzzles measures approximately 20 x 33cm. There’s the first in a new series specially designed for all those dog lovers out there – Dappy Dogs, The Grooming Parlour. Created especially for Ravensburger by the lovely Linda Jane Smith, Dappy Dogs depicts some fantastic canine characters in humorous situations. We love the “doggie” visual puns in the scene – the K9 perfume, a bottle of Shampoodle, Hairs (rather than Pears) Soap and Ideal Kennel magazine (the only publication to view if you want the best doggie den). There’s also the latest design from British-born artist Colin Thompson (famous for his Bizarre Bookshop puzzle, which has proved to be immensely popular with club members). Higgledy Piggledy House allows us to look into a very crowded house and, as with all of Colin’s work, the more you look, the more you discover. For fans of Chris Rogers’ naïve art style, there are 3 new 1000 piece puzzles - London Landscape (includes lots of the new buildings currently under construction), Trafalgar Square and The Cove (based on Kynance Cove in Cornwall). Fans of Tatty Teddy will love the latest “Me to You puzzle, showing our cuddly friends at bath time. And there are 2 new puzzles by world-renowned artists, Christian Reise Lassen and Jack Vettriano. Finally Ravensburger’s fantastic range of Christmas puzzles. Their Limited Edition puzzle for 2011 is Which Way Santa Ravensburger also have a really cute Disney Christmas scene, featuring lots of famous characters to spot and enjoy. And for those super- organised people who already have everything sorted for Christmas, then you’ll appreciate the Holiday Baubles 1000 piece, which is a photograph containing lots of Christmas decorations all neatly contained within little wooden compartments. THE OFFICIAL UK PUZZLE CLUB

Just two new members to go to meet our target for 2011 - Thank you all for making the Club such a success.

Readers LettersI had to write and let the Club and my fellow members know how delighted I was to receive the last newsletter. The ‘New Zealand’ range is fantastic – A place I’ve always wanted to visit, but time and finance were not an option. Now I have both the time and the finance, but sadly not the health... However, I have purchased all eight scenic New Zealand jigsaws and will enjoy ‘hanging them’ when completed to get my ‘little taste’ of this beautiful country.

Thank you for helping me realise a dream- albeit in a different way. Can we have more please?Anonymous - Mevagissy. We have been amazed and delighted by the comments received regarding this range and hope to have more exciting titles for you during 2012. We hesitated about bringing in both scenic ranges but we are pleased that we added these to the selection.

Have been with the Club since its start in 2005 and have every single newsletter intact! I know there are many more members out there that probably have a similar collection. I keep them in three folders and frequently go back over the articles and information. I am amazed at the number of topics that you have covered over the years and although there are a few similar articles, most are new and exciting. My question is – How do you keep coming up with new topics for us hungry puzzlers? It’s always a joy to receive and I usually sit down with a cup of tea and devour the contents cover to cover- Just wish sometimes it could be bigger. On behalf of all of us would like to extend a big thank you for keeping us all informed and for the many and various offers.Jean Godfrey - Stowmarket. Thanks Jean- We couldn’t come up with the many topics without our Members and Manufacturers input. This is the reason we continually ask which topics you would be interested in, so that the newsletter can be tailored for you all.

JIG’S CORNER

ISSUE 71

August 2011

THE OFFICIAL UK PUZZLE CLUB

Just two new members to go to meet our target for 2011 - Thank you all for making the Club such a success.
