He was licensed to judge German Shepherd Dogs in 1974, and was qualified as all-rounder in 1990. He has judged in China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, Australia, Korea, USA, Singapore and India.

RICHARD LOPASCHUK A retired Government of Canada employee and is now working at his own business as a Water Management Consultant. Started in purebred dogs in 1966 with German Shepherd Dogs in the obedience ring and graduated to conformation a year later. Over the next 45 years bred many champion German Shepherd Dogs, Miniature Schnauzers, Cairn Terriers and Papillons. Also bred and exhibited Wire Fox Terriers and Pointers. Richard, along with his wife Nancy still breed and exhibit Cairn Terriers and Papillons. Richard is a Life Member of the Canadian Kennel Club and was on the Board of Directors of the CKC for 12 years, retiring from the Board in 2002. Started judging in 1989 with the Terrier Group and is an All Breed Judge in Canada. He has also judged internationally in the United States, Argentina, Brazil, Columbia, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, India, Japan, Indonesia, Mexico and Sweden. CATHY CINNAMON My husband and I have been involved in purebred dogs for 30 years. We breed Keeshond and Pomeranians under the Cinnakees Prefix. Since 1990 our dogs have been among the top Keeshonden Canada. We have owned the Top Keeshond in Canada 8 times. Our Keeshond Am/Can Ch. Cinnakees Mission Impossible was #10 All Breeds and #1 Non-Sporting dog in 2000. Our dogs have won Award of Merits at US Specialties; we have gone Winners Female and Reserve Winners Female. Many of our dogs hold records in Keeshond breed history. From our first litter of Keeshond we produced a Best in Show dog. Recently we bred and owned the # 1 Puppy All Breeds in Canada 2010, (Canuck Dogs) We have owned and bred the #1 Pomeranian in Canada twice, as well as many Best in Show awards on the Pomeranians. I trialed a Keeshond to Obedience Trial Champion. I am now active in Rally-O and have started training a Keeshond in Obedience again. He is very smart, having achieved a High in Trial and a Best In Show awards. Besides breeding and showing dogs, I love to garden and spend many hours outdoors picking weeds. I also have taken up golf to spend some quality time with my husband. I work part time for a construction company, doing various office duties.

NANCY MARALYN POPOVICH I have been involved in purebred dogs for almost forty-five years, successfully exhibiting Airedale, Wire Fox and Lakeland Terriers under the Samaralyn Reg’d banner. Owner-handled and conditioned, all my champions were multiple group winners and nationally ranked top five in breed in very limited shows. Several were also BIS and BISS winners. Number one Airedale in Canada was achieved in 1976, and in 1993, number one Lakeland in Canada. Retired from exhibiting in 1994, I am now a Canadian Kennel Club licensed all breed judge. A charter member of the Canadian Dog Judges Association, I held the position of Editor of the CDJA national newsletter for seven years. I have been honored to judge specialties and national specialties in various breeds. Internationally, I have judged in Australia, South Africa, Taiwan, United States and New Zealand. No longer actively breeding and exhibiting, I enjoy ring stewarding, writing fiction, computers, reading and drawing. WENDY MAISEY Wendy Maisey is the CKC Director for AB/NWT/NU, she resides in Calgary, Alberta, Canada with her husband, Dwight, several Whole Color Cavaliers and one Berger Picard. Originally in Dobermans, she got her first Doberman in 1972 and over the next 35 years produced many champions, BIS & BISS winners that set records for the breed, as well as some outstanding performance dogs. She also bred Miniature Pinschers in the 80s that are behind some of the most successful kennels today. For the last ten years she has bred Cavalier King Charles Spaniels with a strong focus on the whole colors that have also set records within this breed. Now retired from a demanding career in Project Management, she is very active in Agility with her Cavaliers being ranked at the top in their breed in several organizations. She is also the Chair of the CKC Agility Council. Wendy began judging in 1999 and now has 6 groups (Sporting, Working, Toys, Herding, Non Sporting and Terriers). MARG MORAN MCQUINN Born and raised in Saskatchewan, I have owned, bred and handled Scottish Terriers since 1973 including the #1 and #2 all-time top winning Scotties in Canada and have owned and/or bred another half-dozen (or so) BIS winners, a 2-time U.S. National Specialty BOB winner, and two different Winners Bitch recipients at American nationals with a very limited breeding program under the permanently registered kennel name of Hopscotch. I was first approved to judge terriers around 1990. For work related reasons, I curtailed exhibiting and judging between roughly 2000 and late 2010 at which time I retired as a senior communications manager with the provincial government. In November 2011, I was approved on permit for some herding breeds and at about that time I was also elected to the Canadian Kennel Club Board of Directors for Saskatchewan (Zone 9).

Active in the Scottish Terrier Club of America (and awarded the club’s Silver Service Medallion for editing and publishing its award-winning quarterly magazine), I am also on the executive of the Canadian Dog Judges Association , a life member of the Regina Kennel and Obedience Club, the Canadian Kennel Club and The Scottish Terrier Breeders and Exhibitors Club (Great Britain). In addition to showing in conformation, I have showed in obedience (mostly with Standard Poodles but also one Scottie) and was a member of one of the first scent hurdle racing teams in Canada. I also taught handling and obedience classes for the Regina Kennel and Obedience Club. KAREN CHANT When, as a young teenager, Karen Chant first laid eyes on an Italian Greyhound, it was love at first sight. After being told by the owner of that dog that she'd never find one, she bought her first (hopeful) show dog, a Whippet, in 1984. While that Whippet was never a successful dog in any arena he competed in, he was the start of a lifelong commitment to the dog world. 1985 brought Karen's first Italian Greyhound who finished easily and got Karen hooked on dog shows. Now, many years later, Karen has continued to produce and exhibit Italian Greyhounds under the Diavolino prefix, having produced many Best in Show winners, Specialty winners and performance titled dogs. Dogs of her breeding have been successful all over the world and have been the foundation for other successful breeders. In addition to Italian Greyhounds, Karen has almost always owned a Whippet. The Whippets have been shown and finished but then remain as pets and babysitters to the IG puppies. The other breed Karen has been active in the show ring with is Shelties. Her first Sheltie brought Karen her first owner handled Best in Show as well as Best in Specialty and Karen went on to show and finish dozens of Shelties for other breeders. Now Karen is embarking on the next stage, and is on permit to judge Toy breeds. HAROLD J. PYBUS Harold Pybus and his wife Susan reside in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. He is by profession a Certified General Accountant. Mr. Pybus is a member of the Basset Hound Club of BC, the Basset Hound Club of America, the Basset Hound Club of Greater Seattle, the Irish Setter Club of America, the Canadian Dog Judges Association and the Canadian Kennel Club. He has served in various executive positions with some of the aforementioned clubs as well as with the following all breed clubs, the Lions Gate Kennel Club, the Fraser Valley Dog Fanciers and the Edmonton Kennel Club. His first significant interest in the world of show dogs was with Irish Setters, starting in 1970. Breeding under the Erinova prefix he and a little later with his wife Susan, raised many Canadian and American champions. There were a few special ones who went on to win Groups, Specialties, Best in Shows and a National Specialty.

continued on next page

They bred their last litter of Irish in 1984, but Harold’s interest in the breed has always remained keen. He married into Bassets in 1978 and they became the main breed focus in his and Susan’s lives. Breeding under the Pyperwynd prefix and in partnership with Susan’s parents (Patricia and Richard Waterhouse) they bred ten generations of Best in Show and Specialty winning Bassets, including National Specialty winners and top placing hounds in Canada and the United States. Their top winning hound American, Bermudan and Canadian Champion Pyperwynd IM Reddie Freddie was a Best in Show dog in three countries. His 34 Best in Show wins is a Canadian record for the breed. Another of their homebred dogs, American, Bermudan and Canadian Champion Sir Ethans Basil of Heathrow, Freddie’s grandson, in 1992, became the only foreign Basset to ever win Best of Breed at the American National Specialty. The last litter of Bassets they bred was in 2004 and they continued showing until the end of 2011. Mr.Pybus began his judging career officially in 1993 and is licensed to judge All-Breeds and Best in Show. He has judged at various Specialty shows both in Canada and in the United States and at all breed shows in Canada, the United States and internationally.
