Official Launch of the First ‘M&O Design Pavilion at WF CENTRAL’, Beijing
Bringing the latest international trends from over
30 leading design brands to China
Beijing, 16th September 2018 - Today marks the successful launch of the first ‘M&O Design
Pavilion at WF CENTRAL’, coinciding with the Wangfujing International Brand Festival and
Beijing Design Week. The exhibition, notable for being open to the public, stems from the recent
partnership between WF CENTRAL and MAISON&OBJET PARIS (M&O), the leading
international authority in home decoration, interior design, architecture, lifestyle and fashion
accessories.
The prestigious opening ceremony was officiated by: Mr Raymond Chow, Chairman of Wangfu
Central Real Estate Development Company Limited and Executive Director of Hongkong Land; Ms
Shirley Lam, General Manager, China Commercial Property of Hongkong Land; Mr Philippe Brocart,
Managing Director of SAFI; Mr Franck Millot, Partnerships and Special Events Director of SAFI;
Mr André Fu, Designer of the Year 2016 for M&O Asia and Mr Philippe Nigro, Designer of the Year
2014 for M&O.
Mr Raymond Chow, Chairman of Wangfu Central Real Estate Development Company Limited and
Executive Director of Hongkong Land, commented: “WF CENTRAL has always strived to
collaborate with world-leaders like M&O and it is our pleasure to host the first ‘M&O Design
Pavilion at WF CENTRAL’. Our shared global vision furthers our pursuit of excellence and
innovation, providing unparalleled experiences for our customers. Many of the brands featured at the
Pavilion will be presenting their designs in China for the first time, promoting cultural exchange
while providing rare purchasing opportunities for our customers.”
Mr Philippe Brocart, Managing Director of SAFI, the parent organisation of M&O, remarked: “Our
debut in the Chinese market opens a great number of opportunities, both for M&O and Chinese
consumers. It is an honour to showcase our range of international designer merchandise, with home
décor, interior design, architecture, lifestyle culture and trending products all on display at the
exhibition. The ‘M&O Design Pavilion at WF CENTRAL’ provides an exclusive chance for Chinese
customers to view and purchase the latest creations from our talented team of designers, the work of
whom has rarely been made available in China before.”

Throughout the two-month exhibition, WF CENTRAL will present visitors to an innovative
showcase of works focusing on the theme LOVE DESIGN to bring a comprehensive and immersive
experience to Chinese customers. Featuring over 30 world-leading design brands, 12 of which have
never been featured in China before, this special exhibition will also display the work of six M&O
Designers of the Year, which include André Fu, who established the renowned art studio AFSO;
Eugéni Quitllet, the Catalan designer whose work is characterised by flowing designs and digital
precision; Oki Santo, who founded the Nendo design studio which takes inspiration from the
minimalist style of Japanese culture; Philippe Nigro, who has worked as a designer for over 20 years
and whose work has been featured at the world-famous Centre Pompidou in Paris; Ramy Fischler,
whose work is strongly influenced by cinema and creates hybrid objects that illustrate his capacity to
blur the boundaries between disciplines, and Tom Dixon, a self-taught designer who received an OBE
from Her Majesty The Queen for his services to Art & Design.
Moving away from the traditional trade fair model, the forthcoming exhibition will leverage WF
CENTRAL’s revolutionary digital initiative, CODELAB, to provide an innovative retail experience
and lifestyle inspiration for shoppers. This marks CODELAB’s initial international collaboration,
which provides visitors the convenience to directly purchase products at the ‘M&O Design Pavilion
at WF CENTRAL’, with over 1,000 items from over 30 brands. Located at L2 and B1 of WF
CENTRAL, CODELAB is able to source leading products from the most ingenious designers from
around the world, combining offline experience with online retail. In addition to the M&O selection
of products, CODBLAB also sourced over 200 items from 34 brands, including lines from Home
Accessories and Fashion to Small Gifts and Lifestyle products. This exclusive retail experience, will
help deliver more personalised transactions, greater convenience and a premium level of service for
all visitors.
Visitors to the exhibition will be greeted by a 5-metre tall mascot, Kong, on Wangfujing Street. It
features an awe-inspiring lantern in celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival, specially chosen for the
‘M&O Design Pavilion at WF CENTRAL’. Designed by Stefano Giovannoni, Kong is modelled on
the famous ape featured in the 1933 film King Kong and is sure to be a popular icon for the event. A
further 20 Kongs, in white, black and pink, will also be on display to provide visitors with an area for
unique and memorable photo opportunities.
When visitors first arrive at the main exhibition area, they will be guided through a remarkable
archway, towering above the pathway, which takes its design inspiration from Chinese and Western
influences. This funnels customers to the specially-designed, iconic, event space, The Bridge, where
they are invited to view the wide range of international design inspirations procured by M&O.

Designed as an actual bridge elevated above ground level, this bridge on bridge concept was selected
due to the great importance bridges have played in China since ancient times. Forged by sweeping
layers of iron, the structure of The Bridge creates an area of harmony and transparency, transporting
visitors to the bold new world of the ‘M&O Design Pavilion at WF CENTRAL’. Across The Bridge,
the public are able to select a lifestyle which truly suits their requirements and taste, to access trends
and products which have never before been seen in China, and ultimately bridge the gap between
Chinese consumers and globally-renowned brands and previously inaccessible lifestyle trends.
WF CENTRAL is pleased to announce a series of promotions to celebrate the opening of the ‘M&O
Design Pavilion at WF CENTRAL’. Customers will receive double points in the WF CENTRAL
REWARDS programme on their M&O merchandise purchases from 16th September to 24th
September inclusive. Points may be redeemed for CODELAB vouchers, of which a limited quantity
will be available
Additionally, for a limited period of time, customers may also choose to redeem their WF CENTRAL
Membership points for limited-edition LOVE DESIGN merchandise, selecting from a Denham Love
Design T-shirt, a bottle of Ann Steeger Love Design Perfume, a Tenplus Love Design ManiPedi or a
Tiago Love Design special coffee and cake combo.
The ‘M&O Design Pavilion at WF CENTRAL’ is one of just a number of events and exhibitions
which have been held by WF CENTRAL for the benefit of the many communities who live in Beijing
and across China. Since the official opening, WF CENTRAL has hosted Digital Revolution, which
is a collaboration with London’s Barbican Centre, and is also home to the Serpentine Pavilion Beijing
until November, which is a partnership with the Serpentine Gallery of London. WF CENTRAL
endeavours to collaborate with governments and embassies, as well as local and international
institutions, to produce an exceptional lifestyle programme. Currently, the ‘M&O Design Pavilion at
WF CENTRAL’ is being supported by the French Embassy and Business France.
