Approximately 2800 corporations
56 per cent are in remote areas
About 95 per cent are non-profit
Most are publicly funded but some generate significant private income
e.g. linked to mining or the arts industries
Variety of sizes and functions, many are land holding

NATIVE TITLE BODIES
• Native title and Aboriginal land holding bodies will play an increasingly important role in Australia’s economy in the future.
• The Native Title Act 1993 requires all registered native title bodies (RNTBCs or PBCs) to be registered under the CATSI Act.
• Royalty associations under the Aboriginal Land Rights (NT) Act 1976 must also be registered under the CATSI Act.
• There has been a dramatic increase in recent years in the number of native title claims being finalised.
• As at today there are 158 registered RNTBCs.

• Commonwealth Indigenous Procurement Policy — 1 July 2015• Commonwealth Government has committed to a procurement
target for goods and services from Indigenous businesses — three per cent of Commonwealth contracts awarded to Indigenous businesses by 2020.
• NT Government remote contracting policy — employment and business development targets
