Research Support (RS) enhances Gallaudet's intellectual climate by facilitating scholarly opportunities on the Gallaudet campus.

RESEARCH SUPPORT SERVICES

• Gallaudet Research Expo, an event to recognize and share the exciting research and scholarly inquiry being conducted at the University.

• Research at Gallaudet newsletter.• Editing assistance for research grant proposals

by early-career researchers, particularly those for whom English is not their native language.

• Methodological consultation for faculty and staff to facilitate all phases of their research.

• REDCap, a robust scientific data collection tool that is available free of charge for anyone on campus.

RESEARCH FUNDING

Members of the campus community are invited to apply for Gallaudet-sponsored research grants through two programs that RS manages: • The Small Research Grants fund proposals for

a wide range of research studies by students, faculty, staff, and Clerc Center teachers. These grants must be used within a given fiscal year.

• The Priority Research Fund is a seed grant to support basic and applied research studies for up to three years by University and Clerc Center personnel in areas that have been determined to be of high importance to the University. Recipients are expected to submit at least one proposal for external research funding as a result of this funding.

RESEARCH CONTRIBUTIONS

• Compiles a database and report of the University’s achievements in research and scholarship (research.gallaudet.edu/resources/ragu).

• Provides access to the archived Annual Survey of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children and Youth.

• Consults on studies within RS' areas of expertise.

INTERNATIONAL VISITING RESEARCHER

PROGRAM (IVRP)

The IVRP accommodates a limited number of professors, researchers, and specialists from other countries at Gallaudet each academic year. RSIA assists in funding host academic departments and mentors.

RSIA manages the Gallaudet-sponsored Small Research Grants and Priority Research Fund, programs that stimulate intellectual growth in the campus community.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT AND SCHOLAR SERVICES (ISSS)Gallaudet is authorized to operate programs that encourage international students and scholars to come to the University for educational pursuits. RSIA's IA team helps these individuals achieve their learning objectives by:

• Ensuring that the University is in compliance with U.S. immigration laws.• Facilitating their transition to a culture that may be different from their own through orientation to Gallaudet's programs and

services, and by facilitating dialogue with University leadership.• Managing the International Special Students Program (ISSP), a one- or two-semester program designed for non-U.S. students

who are not pursuing an academic degree at Gallaudet. (ISSS also manages the IVRP, noted on the preceding page.)• Promoting opportunities such as the Nippon Foundation's World Deaf Leadership and Sasakawa International scholarships.

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONSIA collaborates with University administrators and faculty to assess worldwide opportunities for the betterment of Gallaudet and deaf and hard of hearing people, as follows:

• Facilitating the establishment of mutually beneficial cooperative agreements with foreign entities.• Promoting opportunities for exchanges through The Fulbright Programs for Scholars and Students to and from the United States

and cooperative agreements with other universities.• Hosting selected international visitors whose presence on campus supports Gallaudet’s priority areas: expanding international

enrollment, enhancing academic exchange, and advancing current or potential international relations.• Participating in strategic planning and policy development that enhances internationalization, such as global recruiting

and curricular enrichment.

EDUCATION ABROADIA supports the University's goals and strategies in global engagement in the following areas:

• Collaborating with University departments to develop research and education abroad programs related to coursework, internships, and cross-cultural studies.

• Working with other campus units to help ensure a safe international travel experience for campus members, including keeping them in compliance with U.S. regulations. International travel guidelines and forms for travel funded by Gallaudet can be found on the website, www.gallaudet.edu/x10177.xml.

International Affairs (IA) is the point of contact for international students, partners, visitors, and scholars. It offers opportunities for Gallaudet students, faculty, and staff to share their knowledge by connecting with other societies around the world. Global Connection newsletter shares information about Gallaudet's international outreach and services.

International Affairs

Hundreds of people from around the world visit the Gallaudet campus each year. All are welcome. Gallaudet faculty and staff are invited to meet with visitors and show them classes and activities, as their schedule permits. Please refer potential students to the English Language Institute or to Undergraduate or Graduate Admissions, as appropriate.

A subset of international visitors represents a strategic opportunity to advance Gallaudet's student recruiting, academic exchanges, and institutional partnerships. Working with the offices of the President and the Provost, RSIA hosts strategic international visitors, including careful screening of the many requests received to ascertain if special arrangements can be provided. Therefore, international visitors who may be of strategic interest to the University should be referred via email to [email protected], or to the online form that can be found under Support Services at http://www.gallaudet.edu/x10164.xml.
