Offering the ConcreteConstruction Industry the Most Cost-effective Solutions for the Prevention of Random Cracking in Green Concrete

Cardinal…The Industry’s True Pioneer and Innovator

No other company shares the industry history that Cardinal has experienced.

• Founded 60 years ago by Ed Zuzelo who still maintains an active, influential role in the company’s operations and new product developments

• Has acquired more than 60 US and foreign patents in the sawing industry

• In the early 1950’s, Cardinal sawed joints in a record 84 miles of concrete pavement on the West Virginia Turnpike using the world’s first up-cut blade…which became the precursor of the CARDINAL UPPERCUT™ DIAMOND BLADE.

• About this time, a contractor in the South proved that green concrete contained sufficient moisture to preclude the use of water to cool the blade. He used a CARDINAL diamond blade for the demonstration.

• In 1992, Cardinal introduces The Green Machine™, a new, improved saw, which is the first in a series of Ultra Early Entry saws.

• In 2002, Cardinal invents a truly universal arbor (patent 6,651,644) capable of being mounted on any concrete saw on the market today including Soff-Cut® saws.

• Cardinal remains the last independent company in the industry, still headed by its original founder

Sawing Green Concrete toEliminate Random CrackingSome words of advice

Both the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and the Portland Cement Association (PCA) agree that the elimination of random cracks is primarily attributable to using the recommended mix of concrete for the job, plus:

• The proper spacing and location of joints to be sawed to form the weakened planes• Minimal disturbance to the concrete during the cure period• Primary concern be given to using a light-weight, waterless saw • Sawing at the correct time after the pour and hard troweling, before any stresses setup• Sawing at the correct depth after troweling so weakened planes are effective for the slab thickness• Maintaining the concrete surface firmly in place to prevent raveling and spalling

Rx for Diamond Blades*Diamond blade technology provides the lowest cost per cut over any other cutting method. But, put even the best diamond blade on poorly maintained equipment, placed in the hands of a poorly trained operator, and the cost of cutting can nearly put you out of business.

To yield effective cutting and maximum blade life, make sure that…• the proper blade specification is being used for the material being cut• the blade is operating at the proper speed for which it is tensioned• the saw is in good operating condition by checking for:

• the blade is not overfed by forcing it through the material, which causes blade lead-off, diamond fracturing, and loss of blade blank tension• the pavement surface is firmly held and the blade enters the cut gradually and smoothly

• undercut spindle clamping disc• clean blade clamping disc surfaces • properly tightened drive belts • proper power

• accurate spindle alignment • perfect running precision bearings • proper size blade clamping discs and a sturdy mounting arbor

Features and Benefits of the Cardinal UPPERCUT Blades

Cardinal Ultra Early Entry Saws for Abrasive Applications

Cardinal is the original manufacturer of The Green Machine series of concrete saws for Ultra Early Entry dry cutting of green concrete for the control of random cracking. The low noise, vibration-free Green Machine, when used in conjunction with Cardinal UPPERCUT Diamond Blades, allows for same day sawing of green concrete – usually one to three hours following the finishing process.

The Green Machine’s innovative FlatTrac roller/wheels apply pressure to the green concrete surface at the point the blade exits to prevent raveling, spalling and unsightly joints with chipped edges. And, you won’t have to replace the FlatTrac wheels every time a blade is changed, saving money, expensive labor time, and the possibility of misapplication, which could destroy an expensive slab of concrete. Plus, there is no need for a primitive skid plate, which causes surface scratches and unsightly blemishes in decorative concrete.

All Cardinal Green Machines feature:

• Telescoping adjustable handle • Stable four-wheel design • No need for a skid plate

FEATURE Uses maximum concentration of high quality, virgin diamonds Manufactured with exclusive Hi-Retention® bonds Blade segments laser welded to special fatigue-resistant high alloy steel blanks Uniquely shaped patented arbor hole Innovative “Gem Diamond Universal Arbor” with detensos aid in eliminating blade vibration

*Cardinal offers the only blade PERFORMANCE GUARANTEE in the industry. And we put it in writing.

• Sealed heavy-duty ball bearings• Adjustable depth of cut from 3/4 inch to 4-1/2 inches depending on machine model• Easily maneuverable for a perfectly straight cut
