Neale Emanuel Fraser Is. and PNG
The Club’s crest & bulletin name reflect ‘Odin’ (Anglo-Saxon ‘Woden’), the ancient Nordic God of Wisdom. Odin had two ravens called Hugin and Munin (Thought and Memory) who flew forth every day
and returned at night to tell him what they had seen, so contributing to his wisdom.

Sergeant Neale introduced President John who opened the meeting. He welcomed
our guests Helen Sahhar, Helen Rodd, Celeste, Joan Pratt, Peter Schultz, and Fabian.
The nights meeting was in aid of Hat Day - an initiative of Australian Rotary Health
supporting Mental Health in Australia.
Everyone was looking stunning in their personal (or hired) head gear. Bruce and
Celeste were our resident hat traders and had a wide variety of hats for hire.
…….Umm …. why do they have so many different hats :)
President John reminded us to check the expiry dates of our WWVP cards and to
make sure we renew before the expiration date.
He also confirmed that we will be holding a fund raising BBQ
at the Arboretum for Grandparents week on the 22 October.
President John also encouraged members to send him any
questions they would like to add to our upcoming club survey.
Norma and Debbie W did a fine job of measuring everyone’s
head....for a fee. It appears our club has an average head size
22 1/2 inches..
Prizes were given to Viola who had the
smallest head (after her hat was taken off). And
Stephen got the prize for biggest head.
Bish announced the semi-finalist for the Best
Hat Award. They were Deborah Schultz, George
Pratt and Bruce Wyatt. President John was given
the task of selecting the Best Hat and, after
questioning the finalists, selected Deborah Schultz as our winner.
Things you should know and do- dates for your diary The sergeants session consisted of three sergeants running the show. Neale,
Stephen and Shukry conducted a vigorous round of fines. This also included a couple of
Shukry’s amusing stories. Heads and Tails was won by Joan Pratt
Debbie W advised that she has been selected to try out for the Australian Dragon
Boating team. There are several stages to go through but she successfully completed
the first trials and will be continuing in her quest to be a real Aussie Dragon.
Bish gave a short talk on the importance of Hat Day and Mental Health before
commencing the Auction. An amusing auction run by our own non professional
auctioneer Bish had members in stiches and sometimes confused as to how much they
actually had bid. The Auction Items were:
1. Extra virgin exclusive and illegal Portuguese olive oil courtesy of Norma
Won by Viola for $25.00 2. Samuel Port - has lived in 27 different houses over the
past 40 years with Helen and Mike Rodd. It was a pre wedding present to them.
Won by Stephen for $50.00 3. A set of 2 Bill and Ben looking plant holders...or maybe
egg cups for Ostriches. They were a Rodd Family Heirloom
Won by John Burns for $36.00 4. Wine and Cheese basket - Just add cheese Won by Lyn for $55.00 5. Mystery Auction ????? Won by Debbie W for $57.00 The mystery item was the empty port bottle bought by

Thunderbolts group????? 7. George's lovely(???) crotched hat Won by Bish for $5.00
