Discovering new ways to link visual and verbal components is Paul Ender’s specialty. Credited with introducing the grid approach to yearbook layout and modular design to the yearbook community, Paul shares his expertise with staffs across the continent at workshops and conventions. After 28 years of advising, Paul continues to be a yearbook nerd. He keeps an eye on the world of design and he encourages students and advisers to watch for current trends in professional communications and see the possibilities of adapting those ideas to contemporary yearbook design and coverage. This summer, spend 40
minutes with Paul at GYE as he works with your editors one-on-one to fine-tune the 2012 theme concept. Together you will examine the coverage plan and adjust the visual elements to support the verbal statement. Then, later in the week, send one or two of your students to follow up with Paul in a roundtable setting, getting final feedback or answers to new questions. This opportunity to meet with Paul is designed specifically for those schools that are trying to push their books to succeed at the national level—CSPA Crown and NSPA Pacemaker competitions.
Paul Ender, who retired in 2000, was adviser to the American yearbook at Independence H.S. in San Jose, CA. He was the 1997 JEA Yearbook Adviser of the Year.
