M IGRANT WORKERS &

WORKERS

The term "migrant worker" has different official meanings and

connotations in different parts of the world. The definition is broad, but

they all include the thought of any people working outside of their home

country.

Most of the migrant workers in America in the 1930s worked on

farms or ranches and were paid between 15 and 25 cents per hour. The

workers would spend at least 12 hours a day in the field. They would

also need special permission from their employer if they wanted to leave

the state

GREAT DEPRESSION

The Great Depression was a severe worldwide economic depression in the

decade preceding World War II. The timing of the Great Depression varied

across nations, but in most countries it started in 1930 and lasted until the late

1930s or middle 1940s. It was the longest, most widespread, and deepest

depression of the 20th century.

On October 29 1929, millions of dollars were wiped out in an event that

became known as the Wall Street Crash. It led to the Depression in America

which crippled the country from 1930 - 1936. People lost their life savings

when firms and banks went bust, and 12 - 15 million men and women - one

third of America's population - were unemployed.
