R. BRIEF NOTE ABOUT THE RESPONSIBILITIES SHOULDERED

Ever since I entered the department as a lecturer, I am actively involved in the academic and administrative activities of the university. As a chairperson at the department during 96-98; 2008 -10, I was able to initiate the introduction of M. Phil in LIS program and it was a success. Many students also benefited from another innovative program, which is Diploma in Library Automation. So also I have been involved in the introduction and successful implementation of the latest course i.e. Master’s in Information Management. My active participation and collaboration with other departments like AVRC, Computer Science, Management Sciences and other neighboring institutions enabled me to run the department smoothly. I also have to take credit due, in the reintroduction of “Friday Talk” program in the department, which was highly appreciated by the NAAC committee as one of the best practices. I have also actively participated in the organization of workshops, seminars and conferences of the department.

In addition to academic programs of the university, I am actively involved in extracurricular activities of the department. I have worked as members of the Manasagangothri Sports Council. I have also represented the university in local, national and international forums plus NGOs like Rotary, Lions and Round Table etc.

S. SELF EVALUATION

Introduction

The beauty of evaluation lies when one tries it on one self. It would be a kind of introspection, which helps us to know where we stand. In this venture I realized that I have a lot to extrapolate from myself.

Teaching: A Family Profession

Teaching as the saying goes runs in my blood, as I belong to the family of teacher. I am the forth generation teacher. Therefore it goes with out saying that I enjoy every moment. When one enjoys every moment, it means he / she lives every moment. In fact my students like my teaching and my style of adding small anecdotes here and there. These stories are usually drawn from my past teaching experience, scoring to nearly 30 years.

Impromptu Speeches

I am known for my impromptu speeches with my own style. This is because I read plenty of fiction and subject books. Keep track of current affairs and the trends in my field of work.

Good Writer, Compeer and Interpreter

I have been blessed with using the ink at my will and desire. The flow of thoughts being highly logical makes my writing more meaningful and palatable to read. This has enabled me to publish lot of technical works and also helped me to contribute to other magazines. My style of interpreting tables is unique, which has been highly appreciated by many. So far I have contributed more than 100 research papers which are reported in national and international conferences and journals.

Good Manager and Decision Maker

As a head I created very peaceful, healthy atmosphere in the department. I was responsible for rejuvenating the “Friday Talk” and “Alumni Association –MULLISA”of the department. A leader is suppose to be a democrat rather than an autocrat, because of my democratic way of functioning I was able to involve every staff member in the day to day functioning of the department during my tenure.

Good Organizer of Seminars, Workshops and Refresher Courses

So far I have organized about six programs. All were highly appreciated by the participants and the administrators. I was able to get the best resource persons and the top people in the profession for successful conducting of the programs.

Conclusion

I believe in hard work. Being truthful and straightforward has made me a good teacher. If one has to be successful, you have to do things differently rather than doing

different things (Shiv Khera ).The secret of a person’s success there fore is to “plan purposefully, prepare pray fully, proceed positively and pursue persistently”
