Overview
This report is an essential reference if you need to have a knowledge of all key
vehicle manufacturers' future car model launches around the world. It provides
analysis of each OEM's model launches by region and provides tables of
future models to be launched out to 2020.
The report grew from just-auto’s Product Life Database (PLDB) and that
product’s unique monitoring of global vehicle programmes in real time. This
report is intended to supplement PLDB’s searchable online database, focusing
on future vehicle programmes and delivering analysis of the major OEMs and
brands by region.
PLDB which serves as an online reference tool for current and future global
vehicles, is itself searchable by a variety of data fields, and is ideal for
subscribers who need to see future model data by country name but
necessarily by region.
This report offers analysis and background information into OEMs' car model
strategies and future plans in ten global markets, the aim being to offer expert
and non-specialist readers alike, a clear, succinct picture of the future models
which most matter.
Each chapter is analysed by OEM, providing a comprehensive review of every
major OEM's future car launch activity within each individual market. Both local
and foreign OEMs' activities are compared. The key regions reviewed are:
China
North America
South America
Europe

Advice to the reader from the author
While this report has been compiled as a summary of regions, in certain cases,
a major national market has been given its own chapter. This has been done in
the interests of accessibility and clarity. i.e. to have written of the vastly
different South Korean, Chinese and Japanese markets simply as ‘Asia’, would
have served no purpose. As for the inclusion of a chapter entitled ‘North
America’, again, logic applies: major OEMs operate a three-countries/one
market regional outlook so singling out the US over Canada and Mexico was
not seen as beneficial to the reader.

Toyota
Although General Motors Holden continues to proclaim itself the market
leader, such is the success of LCV-based 4x4s and pick-ups that Toyota is the
true local number one. Indeed, the Hilux pick-up has in recent times been the
country’s best=selling vehicle in some of the states that make up the
Commonwealth of Australia.
In light of this, it might then seem odd that Toyota’s local manufacturing
operations centre not on the Hilux or even the Corolla sedan that also finds
much favour with Australians, but the Camry sedan. A free-trade agreement
with Thailand is the reason why the Hilux and Corolla remain as imports.
Meanwhile, the federal government in Canberra has in recent times provided
Toyota Australia with generous incentives to keep Camry-based models being
built at the Altona plant in suburban Melbourne.

Renault-Nissan Alliance
While most observers think only of South Africa when it comes to vehicle
production in Africa, there are now plans to greatly increase the number of
vehicles being manufactured in the north west of the continent.
Renault confirmed in June 2010 that its forthcoming plant in Tangier would
build two vehicles based on the B0 architecture. This platform dates from the
second-generation Clio and is used by Dacia for all its Logan-based cars and
LCVs. This new facility in Morocco will have an initial capacity of 170,000upa,

Chapter 12 South Africa
Volkswagen Group
Automotive investment in South Africa, which slowed to a trickle as the
economy contracted in 2009, has lately begun to pour into the country
following several rounds of interest rate cuts. Volkswagen, the market leader,
is the best example, having created 1,000 new jobs created between mid-2009
and mid-2010 at its Uitenhage plant in Eastern Cape province.
Volkswagen sold 35,283 vehicles in the first half of 2010, an increase of xx%
compared with the corresponding prior-year period, while the overall
passenger car market rose by xxxx%. VW’s market share increased to xxxx%,
up from xxxx%. This, incidentally, is identical to the percentage of the
European market controlled by the OEM in the first six months of this year.
Production at Uitenhage will double this year to xxxxxx units with the export
volume for the new Polo expected to rise from xxxxxx cars shipped in 2009 to
more than xxxxxx units in 2010. Three Polo-based models (Polo, Polo Vivo
and CrossPolo) are set to be built in South Africa until 2017, at which time they
should be replaced by rebodied cars on the same A05 platform. Before then,
VWSA may add assembly of the Amarok pick-up on a new line at Uitenhage.
BMW
BMW has long had local manufacturing operations in South Africa, with the 3
Series sedan a steady seller. Expect the next-generation model to again be
assembled at the company’s Pretoria plant from 2013.
Mercedes-Benz
While the BMW 3 Series is the major player in what is an unusually large
segment for the size of the overall market, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan
also sells well in South Africa. A new-generation model is expected to roll off
the assembly line in the city of East London in 2012.
