■Translation and Learning Point by Tung-ming [[email protected]] 日月疊璧，山川煥綺，在這 絢麗的天地間，山水勝景展現 不同的姿態，吸引詩人的心 眼 。 謝 靈 運（385-433）、 謝 朓 （464-499）、孟浩然（689-740）、 王維（701-761）都以擅長山水詩 著稱的。然而，不以山水詩獨 步聲名的杜甫（712-770），在山水詩歌的創作上， 也有獨特的藝術成就。 杜甫的作品突破前人多以繁富典麗或清空閑淡的 風格歌詠山水的樊籬，而以雄健筆力去展現奇偉不 凡的高山巨川，並為山水描寫注入時代憂思和豐富 的個人感受。這不但拓展了山水詩的題材內容、深 化山水詩的意境，而且賦予山水詩更寛廣的審美視 野。當中，寫於夔州的詩作，更有着濃厚的悲秋意 識。 大曆元年（766）秋天，杜甫登上夔府孤城，遠眺秋 色，觸景傷情，寫下《秋興八首》。首章云： 玉露凋傷楓樹林，巫山巫峽氣蕭森。江間波浪兼 天湧，塞上風雲接地陰。叢菊兩開他日淚，孤舟一 繫故園心。寒衣處處催刀尺，白帝城高急暮砧。 全詩從蕭瑟秋意下筆，為景物添上濃重的感傷色 彩。漫山遍野的楓樹林遇到玉白的朝露，本來正是 紅葉盛開的秋季，但是杜甫卻強調白露對楓林的 「凋傷」。在一片楓樹「凋零」的景象中，巫山巫 峽一帶又顯得蕭瑟陰森。巫峽江面波浪洶湧，彷彿 一直湧到天上；巫山風雲，下及於地，似接地而 陰。波浪滔天、風雲匝地，秋天蕭森之氣一時間充 塞於巫山巫峽。值得注意是，杜甫不是簡單再現所 見所聞，客觀描摹江流湍急、塞上風雲和巫峽秋深 的外貌，而是將內心感受融入秋色描繪的詩卷裡， 賦予江水、風雲某種性格及象徵意義。也就是天上 地下，江間關塞，到處是驚風駭浪，動蕩不安，蕭 條陰晦，不見天日，既形象地表現出他遲暮漂泊的 不安，憂思不斷 的翻騰起伏，也 象徵時局的變幻無定。秋菊與孤舟更添鄉愁，黃昏 時急促的搗衣聲，就令他的悲秋哀傷更見悽絕。 在秋風秋雨的日子，遙望高江急峽，杜甫又寫了 《白帝》一詩： 白帝城中雲出門，白帝城下雨翻盆。高江急峽雷 霆鬥，翠木蒼藤日月昏。戎馬不如歸馬逸，千家今 有百家存。哀哀寡婦誅求盡，慟哭秋原何處村。 詩人寫白帝城秋雨傾盤，暴漲江水助以雨勢，令 水聲如雷霆之鬥，發出巨響。天空陰霾密佈，加上 兩岸山崖蒼藤古樹蔽日遮天，更不見日月之光。按 照一般山水詩來寫，詩人完全可以順着山水風景寫 下去，並加以收束，但杜甫不是這樣寫。他由高江 急峽的秋雨描寫轉到民生凋敝的社會境況，既突出 夔州雲雨的陰森，又為戎馬不息，村落蕭條的時代 作了寫照。杜甫借眼前天昏地暗的秋景，抒發對亂 世民困的憂愁。杜甫的山水詩篇，景象恢宏，筆力 沉雄，為中國詩史作了重要的貢獻。 ■霍偉倫 港大附屬學院講師 港鐵 21 日起加價，平均加幅達 4.3%，令逾六成半 車程要多付 1 毫至 4 毫，逾三成乘客每程車費加 5 毫 或以上。這是港鐵連續第六年加價，加幅為歷來第 二高。港鐵去年盈利高達 150 多億元，仍用足「可加 可減」機制而加價 4.3%，明顯是純粹從商業利益考 慮，無視社會負擔能力和香港整體利益。 港鐵在承擔社會責任方面明顯不足。鐵路票價不 斷上漲，卻故障不斷，已成為公眾最不滿意之處。 作為全港最大的公共交通運輸機構，港鐵公司須立 足自身角色與職能，切實提升服務質素，滿足市民 的公共交通需求。 特區政府是港鐵大股東，須擔負起監察之責，盡 快檢討並優化票價釐定機制，督促港鐵公司提升服 務質素。 （文匯報社評 22-6-2015） The MTR raised its fares from June 21 by an average of 4.3 per cent, which means more than 65 per cent of trips are charinging 10 to 40 HK cents more, and over 30 per cent of the passengers have to pay an extra 50 HK cents or more per ride. Obviously, the MTR has not borne enough of its social obligations. While tickets are asking for more, train disruptions have been a constant, the chief source of public dissent. As the major public transport operator in the city, it must take up its duty and fulfil its role and perform its functions, improve service quality, and satisfy the need of public transport. On the other hand, the SAR government, the main shareholder of the MTR, ought to shoulder its supervisory duty: review and optimize the fare adjustment mechanism as soon as possible, and monitor the MTR to keep service and fares in line. In a hot dry summer, direct sunlight may scorch the ground. 炎炎乾旱的夏日底下，直射的陽光可以燒 焦地面。 2. On such a scorching hot day, people prefer to stay indoors. 天氣灼熱的日子，人們寧願留在室內。 此外，也可以用sizzling hot形容天氣酷 熱。Sizzle是說熱油或油炸食物發出滋滋的 聲音。可以想像，sizzling hot 就是溫度非常 高。 3. The sausages are sizzling in the pan. The smell makes me drool! 香腸在鍋裡煎的滋滋作響，香氣令我垂涎 三尺！ 4. It's sizzling hot. Let's go and swim. 今天天氣酷熱，我們去游泳吧！ 還可以用sweltering hot形容十分炎熱。這 個形容詞很容易明白，因為 swelter 本身的意 思就是感覺熾熱，覺得難受。Sweltering hot 解作酷熱非常，熱得令人感到不適。 5. They insisted on finishing the journey though they sweltered under the hot sun. 雖然他們在烈日下感到炎熱難當，但仍然 堅持完成旅程。 6. 港鐵在承擔社會責任方面明顯不足。鐵路票價不斷上漲，卻故障不斷，已成為公眾最不滿意之處。作為全港最大的公共交通運輸機構，港鐵公司須立足自身角色與職能，切實提升服務質素，滿足市民的公共交通需求。
特區政府是港鐵大股東，須擔負起監察之責，盡快檢討並優化票價釐定機制，督促港鐵公司提升服務質素。

The MTR raised its fares from June 21 by anaverage of 4.3 per cent, which means more than 65per cent of trips are charinging 10 to 40 HK centsmore, and over 30 per cent of the passengers haveto pay an extra 50 HK cents or more per ride. Thisis the sixth year in a row of the railway company's
fare rise and the rate of increase is the secondhighest in history. Despite a reported net profit of asmuch as HK $15 billion last year, it still tookadvantage of the fare adjustment mechanism for amaximal 4.3 per cent increase, no doubt a decisionbased entirely on business interests and regardless ofthe affordability of citizens and the overall well-beingof Hong Kong.
Obviously, the MTR has not borne enough of itssocial obligations. While tickets are asking for more,train disruptions have been a constant, the chiefsource of public dissent. As the major publictransport operator in the city, it must take up itsduty and fulfil its role and perform its functions,improve service quality, and satisfy the need ofpublic transport.
On the other hand, the SAR government, themain shareholder of the MTR, ought to shoulder itssupervisory duty: review and optimize the fareadjustment mechanism as soon as possible, andmonitor the MTR to keep service and fares in line.

近年興起一股畢業旅行（graduationtrip）的風潮，即大學畢業後，去一趟自由自在的旅行，充電過後才收拾心情投身職場（workplace）。筆者年前畢業後也去了一趟旅行，地點選定了新加坡（Singapore）。聽說這是個沉悶的城市，也絕非港人旅行的首選。然而，筆者看了新加坡。
面積不大，才700多平方公里（香港則大約1,000多平方公里）。有完善的城市規劃（city planning），街道寬敞，完全沒有擁擠（crowded）或壓迫（stressed）感；綠化（greening）十分成功，讓我這個酷愛大自然（nature）的人樂而忘返。在香港，不論坐巴士搭地鐵，窗外總是一棟一棟的高樓大廈（skyscrapers）；在新加坡，車窗外卻是一片片綠油油的草地，或是參天的大樹，隔着玻璃也教人心曠神怡。年前花了 60 億港元興建的濱海灣花園（Gardens by the Bay），佔地101公頃（hectare），大片綠草如茵，美不勝收，不負新加坡「花園城市（GardenCity）」的美譽，讓我這個城市人得以喘息。
數之不盡的美食是另一個叫人迷上新加坡的原因。筆者最愛斑蘭蛋糕（Pandan Chiffon Cake），蛋糕鬆軟，配上斑蘭葉淡淡的香味（fragrance），教我至今都不能忘卻，在香港四出尋遍都找不到這麼好吃的斑蘭蛋糕。在熟食中心（Food Centre / Hawker Centre），嚐過很好吃的印度薄餅（Roti），也喝了很多杯美祿（Milo）和薏米水（Barley Drink），不但可口，也能解渴。當然，也要品嚐馳 名 的 海 南 雞 飯 （Hainanese Chicken Rice） 和 叻 沙（Laksa），真的令人食指大動！此外，咖哩角（CurryPuff）也是不錯的選擇，樣子不是香港那種三角形的，而
是圓圓的餃子形（dumpling），餡料（ingredients）包括：薯仔、雞肉、還有大半隻雞蛋！以上種種美食都讓人不能自拔地愛上新加坡。
近年不少人都說香港在各方面比不上新加坡，大家有時間也不妨親身感受一下這座城市的魅力（charisma）吧！

熱！酷熱！盛夏已到，氣溫動輒30多度！
今次就說一下形容天氣很熱的詞語。中文要
說「熱」，很多時不只用單字「熱」，通常配上另一個字來形容。這樣的詞語有很多，例如：炎熱、酷熱、灼熱、暑熱、熾熱等等。英文也一樣，很多時不單用一個hot，配對其他字詞，加強語氣，形容甚熱的天氣。
首 先 ， 要 形 容 天 氣 非 常 熱 可 以 用scorching hot，即是灼熱。Scorch是燒焦的意思，因此scorching hot就用作強調天氣灼熱，像要把人燒焦一樣。1. In a hot dry summer, direct sunlightmay scorch the ground.炎炎乾旱的夏日底下，直射的陽光可以燒
焦地面。2. On such a scorching hot day, peopleprefer to stay indoors.天氣灼熱的日子，人們寧願留在室內。此外，也可以用sizzling hot形容天氣酷
熱。Sizzle是說熱油或油炸食物發出滋滋的聲音。可以想像，sizzling hot就是溫度非常高。3. The sausages are sizzling in the pan.The smell makes me drool!香腸在鍋裡煎的滋滋作響，香氣令我垂涎
三尺！4. It's sizzling hot. Let's go and
swim.今天天氣酷熱，我們去游泳吧！還可以用sweltering hot形容十分炎熱。這
個形容詞很容易明白，因為swelter本身的意思就是感覺熾熱，覺得難受。Sweltering hot解作酷熱非常，熱得令人感到不適。5. They insisted on finishing the journeythough they sweltered under the hot sun.雖然他們在烈日下感到炎熱難當，但仍然
堅持完成旅程。6. People tend to consume moreelectricity for air-conditioning during thesweltering hot summer days.酷熱非常的夏日，人們通常會開空調，耗
