Final words and success storiesChrystal is a 31 yr old māori woman, who prior to admission was at Auckland hospital about to give birth and was still using methamphetamine. She was booked into our family centre but at the birth her daughter was removed by Oranga Tamariki. She was supported by peer support throughout this time. Chrystal spent her first few weeks on the verge of leaving the programme. Today she is in Level 3, a positive valued member of the community, re-engaging with her family and having supervised visits with her daughter. She has embraced her recovery journey and is committed to graduating the programme.

Warrenis a 49 yr old māori male, who came to Odyssey
straight from prison. He has an extensive background of addiction, offending and gang involvement. Peer support built a relationship with Warren through AVL and picked him up from prison on the day of admission and continued to support him through the Start phase. Warren is now in Level 3, involved in our kapa haka team, producing amazing art works for the house and doing maintenance work at the programme. He has re-engaged with family, and has strong goals to graduate and reintegrate with whanau.

Clinical Manager observation
“We see the way you (peer support) talk to people, and the way they talk to you, and it’s different, and we like it.”
