To workers in the community:

Recently in the pages of the Spanish Journal, Robert Miranda has been using his newspaper to attack me, Voces de la Frontera, and striking Palermo workers with outright lies and vulgar language.

It is not my style to respond to these base accusations, but I feel it is important--especially during a prolonged strike when so many families are sacrificing to stand up not just for themselves, but for others--to set the record straight and to promote worker solidarity, which is fundamental to Voces' mission.

Miranda is waging a campaign of lies and slander because he is angry that Voces de la Frontera successfully represented Esperanza Unida employees whom he, as Director of the organization, fired.

These workers came to Voces asking for help after Esperanza Unida failed to pay them their wages. Timely payment of wages was--- and continues to be--- a chronic problem at Esperanza since Robert Miranda became its Director.

Voces filed with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) on behalf of the Esperanza Unida employees and successfully won their reinstatement and back wages. Esperanza was ordered to communicate with its employees affirming their right to organize collectively and guaranteeing them protections against employer retaliation.

Ever since that incident, Miranda has made Voces a focus of his venomous attacks.

It is sad that an organization that once was a gem in Milwaukee's Southside has been so mismanaged that it has jeopardized its ability to serve the community by failing to file taxes for three years in a row. As a result, Esperanza has had its federal non-profit status revoked.(See Guidestar)

It is not surprising that Miranda has aligned himself with Palermo Villa, a company that is running an expensive and cruel anti-union and anti-immigrant campaign that has

fired over 90 workers--many with over 5 and 10 years of loyal service--for simply asking the company to recognize their legal right to have a union. And it is not surprising that he is using as a mouthpiece a worker, Santos Tase, who has not worked at Palermo for a long time, to promote his lies.

The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has blocked a union election at Palermo because it agrees that the pending charges against the company are so significant that they undermine a fair election.

Parroting the company's line, Miranda says that all the workers are undocumented and thus have no rights to reinstatement. Yet, Palermo effectively fired (ie.“permanently replaced") workers who supported the strike that were not even on the ICE audit list of workers with potentially problematic documents.

Palermo terminated workers on the ICE audit list the day after ICE sent the company a letter informing them that they were suspending the audit. ICE has not made a final determination on the immigration status of any workers consistent with its policy of not getting involved in ongoing labor disputes.

The Palermo Workers Union, an independent union, was supported by a supermajority of workers who signed the petition for union recognition. But Palermo has refused to recognize the union and has willfully used firings, misinformation, and the ICE audit as a union-busting tool.

The decision of the Palermo Villa workers to go on strike is a heroic decision and has received strong support nationwide.

Given Miranda's own history of mistreating his employees, it is not surprising that he has aligned himself with an anti-union company. Rather than focusing his attacks on the work that Voces is doing to protect the rights of all immigrants and workers, his time would be better spent salvaging his own organization, for the benefit of the community.

Recientemente en las páginas del Spanish Journal, Robert Miranda a estado usando su periódico para atacarme, Voces de la Frontera, y a los huelguistas de Palermo con mentiras absolutas y lenguaje vulgar.

No es mi estilo de responder a acusaciones tan bajas, pero siento que es importante--especialmente durante una alargada huelga donde tantas familias se están sacrificando no solamente por ellos mismos, sino por todos--por lo mismo es importante aclarar la verdad y promover la solidaridad entre trabajadores, cual es la misión fundamental de Voces.

Miranda, está organizando una campaña de mentiras y difamación en contra de Voces de la Frontera porque está enojado ya que Voces exitosamente represento a empleados de Esperanza Unida que él despidió como director de la organización. Estos empleados vinieron a Voces pidiendo ayuda después que Esperanza Unida no les pago sus sueldos. Y esto aun sigue siendo un problema constante para los trabajadores en Esperanza Unida desde que Miranda tomo el puesto de director.

Voces presento cargos con la Junta Nacional de Relaciones Laborales (NLRB) de parte de los empleados de Esperanza Unida y exitosamente logro recuperar sus trabajos y salarios atrasados. Esperanza fue ordenado a comunicar con sus empleados afirmando sus derechos de organizarse colectivamente y garantizando protecciones en caso de represalias de parte del empleador.

Desde ese tiempo, Miranda a enfocado sus ataques venenosas en contra de Voces.

Es triste que una organización que una vez era un joya en el surside de Milwaukee, ha sido tan mal administrado que ha puesto en riesgo su habilidad de servir a la comunidad por falta de no reportar sus ingresos tres años seguidos. No nos sorprende que Miranda se ha aliado con Palermo Villa, una compañía que está organizando una campaña anti-sindical y anti-inmigrante, cara y

cruel; en la que ha despedido más de 90 trabajadores--muchos con más de 5 o 10 años de servicio leal--simplemente por pedir que la compañía reconozca su derecho legal de tener organizarse en un sindicato. Y no nos sorprende que está usando como su portavoz un trabajador, Santos Tase, que no ha trabajado en Palermo por mucho tiempo, para promover sus mentiras.

La Junta Nacional de Relaciones Laborales (NLRB) está bloqueando una elección sindical en Palermo porque esta de acuerdo que los cargos que enfrenta Palermo en el NLRB son tan fuertes que dañarían una justa elección.

Repitiendo como loro la línea política de la compañía, Miranda dice que todos los trabajadores son indocumentados y no tienen derecho a regresar al trabajo. Pero la compañía prácticamente despidió a trabajadores (llamándolo "permanentemente reemplazados")que apoyaban la huelga y ni siquiera estaban en la lista de auditoría de ICE, con posibles problemas de documentación.

Esta compañía despidió a trabajadores en la lista de auditaría de ICE un día después que ICE mando a la compañía una carta informándoles que estaban suspendiendo la auditaría. As an elected official who has hoped for dialogue and a fair resolution between Palermo’s and workers on strike, I’m compelled to respond to the misinformation out there.

Many of the families on strike live in the district I represent, and the stakes are high for a positive solution. But we cannot reach this without being clear about the facts.

Palermo’s claims that the strike is not about working conditions or union recognition, but about allowing workers with false documents to keep working despite the ICE audit.

FACT: The bottom line is that Palermo’s does not know which of its workers may be documented and which may not be, because on June 7th Palermo’s was ordered via a letter from Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) to suspend their immigration audit, due to the existing labor conflict per the National Labor Relations Board.

Despite every effort on the part of the company to create a narrative to the contrary, that is the reason that the strike continues after 4 months.

Instead of following the direction of the federal government and suspending their audit so as to not interfere with a union election, Palermo’s accelerated the verification deadline and terminated the workers one day after receiving the notice from ICE to suspend the audit. In other words, the ICE audit was never completed, and Palermo’s has no basis under federal law to refuse to bargain with the union and re-instate the striking workers.

Palermo’s claims that the union falsely promised workers that "they could be reinstated to their jobs if they unionized”.

FACT: Given the fact that the ICE audit was suspended and no final determination was made, there is no basis not to reinstate the workers who were unjustly terminated, which is precisely what the NLRB Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) addresses.

In addition to the 75 terminated workers who were on the suspect document list, other workers – both permanent and temporary – were also fired for supporting the strike. This too, is included in the ULP charge, and further evidence that the conflict is not about verifying immigration status, but an attack on the organizing rights of workers.

A perfect example of a worker who was not on the “suspect document” list, yet was fired for supporting the strike, is Rosa Mercado. Rosa is a lawful permanent resident employee who signed the union petition and was told by a manager on June 6th that she could no longer work at Palermo's because she had "bought" her immigration papers – false, according to evidence that has been presented to the National Labor Relations Board as part of the ULP.

"[The manager] then told me that I could keep working for the temp agency, but not directly with the company,” says Rosa. Rosa was fired under the false pretenses of being undocumented, despite her being a lawful permanent resident. And she is not unique.

Again, ICE has suspended its investigation. Palermo’s can create a more reasonable time frame for any employee to answer any questions the employer may have of worker's immigration status.

Palermo’s claims that it only wants "to remove all barriers and allow its workers to vote on whether or not they want a union."

FACT: Why does the company want an election so suddenly? Because they have the result they want. If an election were to be held tomorrow, as Palermo’s is now calling for, none of the permanent employees who initially organized for union representation would be allowed to vote, because they have been fired.

Excluding strikers and allowing only replacement workers to vote is hardly democratic. That is exactly why the NLRB has blocked the election.

After repeated calls to meet to address the workers’ concerns, Palermo management still refuses to meet with workers to resolve differences. It is time that Palermo’s sits down with the striking workers to address all legitimately documented concerns around health and safety violations, wage issues, and discrimination at the plant.

The way things are going now, Palermo’s will be known across the country as the immigrant-run pizza business that started small and achieved the American Dream - only to exploit their workers doing so, while sticking it to the taxpayers.

And Palermo’s will be infamous as the factory where scores of immigrants wanting to better their lives - just like its owners, the Falluccas, not long ago - were fired under bogus anti-immigrant pretenses, and got away with it.

This should not be a debate about immigration. It is about allowing workers to organize freely without fear of retaliation. It is their constitutional and federal right, after all.

I stand firmly with the striking workers at Palermo’s, and call for the company to immediately address their valid concerns.

Como representante electa que ha deseado un dialogo y resolución justa entre la compañía de Palermo’s y los trabajadores huelguistas, me veo obligada a responder a información errónea que se está circulando. Muchas de las familias de los huelguistas viven en el distrito que yo represento y las consecuencias de no encontrar una solución positiva serán muy serias. Pero no se logrará una solución positiva sin aclarar los hechos.

Un ejemplo perfecto de un trabajador que no se encontraba en la lista de “documentos sospechosos”, pero aun fue despedida por apoyar la huelga, es Rosa Mercado. Después de numerosas peticiones para hablar sobre los asuntos laborales de los trabajadores, la administración de Palermo todavía se rehúsa a reunirse con los trabajadores para resolver las diferencias. Y la voluntad de Palermo será infame de modo como la compañía donde muchos inmigrantes con la sed de mejorar sus vidas – como los dueños, los Fallucas, – fueron despedidos bajo falso pretensiones anti – inmigrantes, y lograron esquivarse.

Esto no debería ser un debate de inmigración. El objetivo es permitir a los trabajadores a organizarse libremente sin miedo de represalias. Después de todo es su derecho constitucional y federal.

Anyone who has taken the time to talk to the Palermo workers on strike has seen the toll that standing in the sun for hours every day has taken on us and our families. It’s hard enough being out of work for 4 months. But

we continue to do it because, as a low-wage workforce, fighting back against abuse means something to us. Because we recognize that change takes time, and we know that the change we seek- protecting and defending our workplace rights - does not come easily.

So it is especially disturbing to me that in a series of recent articles in the Spanish Journal, Robert Miranda has inexplicably attacked me and called into question the story of a serious injury I had on the job, saying in a September 12th article: “As far as I’m concerned, how do we confirm that the injury that Cesar says happened to his finger did not happen before he was employed at Palermo’s?”.

I do not understand why you continue to lie to your readers about my accident, and about this campaign?

My accident happened at the plant, as the report on this page confirms. My hand was caught in the multi-vac machine, and my finger was chopped off at the first digit- is a fact. You can see my hospital bills. I have all documentation, signed by the supervisor Heron Diaz, confirming the machine was defective.

Before this accident happened I spoke to supervisors about the machine being defective and the danger it presented, because it forced me to reach inside the machine. But, because

production was more important than safety. The government agency that protects workers against injuries and deaths in the workplace--OSHA--only came in to look at the machine, after my injury occurred. In spite of my digit being amputated, Palermo's refused to stop production and did not throw the product away.

It’s bad enough that Palermo’s refused to provide sick leave for me during my time in the hospital. That I had an entire digit on my finger chopped off due to faulty machinery. It’s bad enough that I was forced to continue working in a extremely dangerous environment.

But your accusations are a new low. If you really want to get into semantics- you can call it an “amputation”, a “laceration”, or whatever term you’d like. A digit that is only hanging on by skin--is pretty clear to anyone--that it is a serious injury.

The bottom line is that safety at the plant was more talk, than reality. lost a part of my finger and am unable to move it to this day. And you’re implying to the readership of the Spanish Journal that I’m lying about how that happened.

When my coworkers and I made the extremely tough decision to strike to improve these very conditions, We were very disappointed to see the reaction of the company-- lies and rumor-spreading. We did not expect it from a publication which purports to provide news for the Latino community. So why the lies? Why intentionally misinform people?

When 150 of us went on strike, your paper ignored it. Three months later, when you found a replacement worker who joined the company after the strike began, to support your position against the Palermo Workers Union, you jumped on it and wrote a stream of increasingly desperate and transparent articles against us.

But when you intentionally slander me, minimize my injury and call into question the integrity of my claim- you have gone too far.

I have since been made aware that Voces recently won a lawsuit brought by your own former employees at Esperanza Unida. Apparently you weren’t paying them. This is called wage theft.

Cualquier persona que en realidad haya tomado el tiempo para hablar con los trabajadores de Palermo actualmente en huelga ha visto el gran esfuerzo y empeño de los huelguistas y como las familias estan pagando el precio de esta lucha.

Como muchos paisanos pueden saber, es bastante difícil estar sin trabajo por 4 meses. Pero seguimos en la lucha, peleando por nuestors derechos porque nuestra mano de obra no era compensada por los salarios bajos.

Seguimos luchando contra el abuso porque sabemos que no somos los unicos trabajadores inmigrantes que sufren esto; Esta no es mi batalla, es nuestra batalla y significa algo para todos. Reconocemos que el cambio lleva tiempo, y sabemos que el cambio que buscamos, la protección y la defensa de nuestros derechos en el trabajo - no ha sido ni sera fácil.

Por lo tanto, es especialmente preocupante para mí que en una serie de artículos recientes del periodico Spanish Journal Robert Miranda

Report from the National Immigrant Integration Conference

through 25 in Baltimore, MD, the fifth National Immigrant Integration Conference (NIIC) focused on the things that connect, not divide people. On the first day, we were treated to music and dance from a wide variety of ethnic traditions. The next morning we heard from Maryland’s Governor, a close ally of conference host Gustavo Torres and his immigrant-serving organization, Casa de Maryland. We were amazed to learn that state governments can take an active pro-immigration stance. We couldn’t help wondering how different life would be for Voces’ members if we had a similar climate in Wisconsin.

We were also accompanied by local refugee case manager Christiana Attere, who represented the Pan African Community Association (PACA).

We spent three busy days in workshops and keynote sessions. The most inspiring speech was by Benjamin Jealous, National President of the NAACP, who pointed out that uniting across struggles was nothing new. He

cited an 1869 speech by Frederick Douglass, an African-American leader who had been born in slavery and understood that all oppression is wrong. Jealous spoke of a familiar story – foreign-born individuals brought to the US to work at thankless, low-paying jobs without the ability to gain full status as Americans. Douglass was referring to the foreign-born Chinese who had built the Transcontinental Railroad and then were targeted by the Chinese Exclusion Act, the first discriminatory law against non-white immigrants. Jealous connected the mean-spirited intent of this law with Arizona’s 21st Century version of intolerance – the anti-immigrant law SB 1070 – as well as the plight of undocumented DREAMERs seeking an education and LGBT people fighting for marriage equality.

The NIIC conference certainly gave its attendees practical tools to achieve this vision. As we all headed back to our home cities, we celebrated the new connections, friendships and valuable skills we developed in Baltimore.

Integración de Inmigrantes (CNII) se llevó a cabo del 22 al 25 de septiembre en Baltimore, Maryland. Se enfocó en las cosas que sirven para conectar, no dividirnos. El primer día nos festejaron con música y baile de varias tradiciones étnicas. Al dia siguiente el Gobernador de Maryland nos dio la bienvenida como amigo de Gustavo Torres, anfitrión de la conferencia y director de la organización Casa de Maryland. Nos sorprendimos al oíir de la posición pro-inmigrante del gobierno de Maryland. Nos pusimos a pensar que diferente seria la vida in Wisconsin para los miembros de Voces con un ambiente más abierto.

También nos acompaño Christiana Attere de la Asociacion para la Comunidad Pan Africana (PACA, en ingles) que trabaja con los refugiados en Milwaukee.

Pasamos tres días en talleres y sesiones con presentadores distinguidos. El discurso más inspirador fue dado por Benjamin Jealous, Presidente Nacional de la Asociación Nacional para la Promoción de Gente de Color (NAACP, en inglés). Señaló Jealous que la idea de unirnos en una lucha común no es nada nuevo. Citó a

un discurso dado en 1869 por Frederick Douglass, un líder Afro-Americano que había nacido como esclavo y entendió muy bien que todo tipo de opresión es malo. Jealous habló de una historia ya demasiado conocida – gente de otros países traídos a los EE.UU. para trabajar en trabajos difíciles y mal pagados sin tener el derecho de ganar el mismo estatus que los norteamericanos. Se refería Douglass a los chinos que se vinieron para construir el ferrocarril transcontinental y luego fueron excluidos a plena participación en la sociedad por la primera ley anti-inmigrante dirigido a gente de color. Jealous hizo una conexión entre las malas intenciones de esa ley y la ley actual de Arizona en contra de los inmigrantes – SB 1070, tanto como la situación de los estudiantes indocumentados que se conocen como los ‘sonadores’ y la gente gay peleando por el derecho de casarse.

Los que asistieron a la conferencia se regresaron a casa con las herramientas necesarios para llevar a cabo esa visión. Al salir de Baltimore nos dio gusto recordar las buenas conexiones, las amistades y las nuevas destrezas que habíamos alcanzado a conseguir.

PALERMO WORKERS STAND WITH CHICAGO TEACHERS

On Saturday, September 15th a contingent of striking Palermo workers traveled to Chicago, to march in solidarity with 25,000 striking educators in the third largest public school system in the country.

“As workers who are also fighting for a greater voice on the job, we know how difficult this decision must have been for CTU to make,” said Raul de la Torre of the Palermo Workers Union.

Before boarding buses filled with Milwaukee educators and other pro-union allies, striking Palermo’s workers explained to local media why they were going to Chicago.

“We stand in full support and intend on marching with Chicago teachers on the picket line, in the same spirit of solidarity that so many people across the country have shown us,” says de la Torre.

Voces was thrilled to participate at the Naturalization Ceremony for 50 New Americans at the National Immigrant Integration Conference in Baltimore.

it about using your newspaper as a tool to wield against those who you have problems with- personal or political? Only a few months ago, you were calling Voces “angels of death”. Such absurd rhetoric destroys any credibility for your writing and for your paper.

You are shameless, but when truth goes up against fiction and moral corruption, the truth will prevail every time.

Mi accidente ocurrió en la planta, ya que el informe confirma en esta página. Mi mano se quedó atrapada en la máquina multi-vac, y mi dedo se cortó en el primer dígito, es un hecho. Puedes ver mis facturas del hospital. Tengo toda la documentación, firmada por el supervisor Díaz Garza, confirmando que la máquina era defectuosa.

Antes de que ocurrió esta accidente hablé con los supervisores acerca de la máquina explicando que era defectuosa y el peligro que presentaba a los operadores del interior de la máquina; Pero, era obvio que la producción era más importante que la seguridad. La agencia del gobierno que protege a los trabajadores contra las lesiones y muertes en el lugar de trabajo - OSHA - sólo llegó a ver la máquina, después de mi lesión. A pesar de que el digito de mi dedo fue amputado, Palermo se negó a detener la producción y no tiro el producto.

Es una pena que Palermo se negó a proporcionarme dias justificados por enfermedad durante mi estancia en el hospital. Yo tenía un dígito entero de mi dedo cortado debido a la maquinaria averiada. Tambien es una pena que me vi obligado a continuar trabajando en un ambiente extremadamente peligroso.

Pero sus acusaciones son un nuevo bajo. Si realmente quiere entrar en la semántica de como llamarle "amputación", "laceración", o cualquier término que usted quisiera. Yo vi y senti como un digito de mi dedo sólo se colgaba con un pedazo de piel - esto creo que es bastante claro para cualquiera – sufri una lesión grave.

La conclusión es que la seguridad en la planta era más charla, que realidad. Perdi parte de mi dedo y hasta la fecha no lo puedo moverlo completamente. Y usted está dando a entender a sus lectores del periodico Spanish Journal que estoy mintiendo acerca de lo que pasó?

Cuando mis colegas y yo tomamos una decisión extremadamente difícil de pelear para mejorar estas pesimas condiciones, nos quedamos muy decepcionados al ver la reacción de la compañía - la mentira y la difusión de rumores. No me lo esperaba de una publicación que pretende proporcionar noticias para la comunidad latina. ¿Por qué las mentiras? ¿Por qué intencionalmente desinformar a la gente?

Cuando 150 de nosotros salimos en huelga, su periodico lo ignoró. Tres meses más tarde, cuando se enterarón de que un trabajador de reemplazo se unió a la compañía después de que comenzó la huelga, para apoyar su posición contra el Sindicato de Trabajadores de Palermo, saltó sobre él y escribió una serie de artículos cada vez más desesperados y transparentemente en nuestra contra.

Pero cuando usted intencionalmente me calumnia, minimiza mi lesión y pone en duda la integridad de mi afirmación- ha ido demasiado lejos.

Desde entonces he sido informado de que Voces recientemente ganó una demanda presentada por los ex empleados propios de Esperanza Unida. Al parecer, no se les pagaba. Esto se conoce como robo de salarios.

¿Se trata de informar las noticias sobre la huelga de Palermo, o se trata de usar su periódico como una herramienta para atacar en contra personales o políticos? Sólo hace unos meses, llamaron a Voces "ángeles de la muerte". Tal retórica absurda destruye toda credibilidad para su escritura y su periodico.

Usted es descarado, pero cuando la verdad se enfrenta a la ficción y la corrupción moral, la verdad prevalecerá en todo momento.

This is a call to all US citizens who are able to vote on or before November 6th - so that they may exercise their right to vote in this national election.

Why is it important that you vote?

Let me tell you a few reasons.

If you are part of the 99% of the population who is against the 1% who keeps a great part of the money produced by the 99%, vote so that this may be changed one day.

If you work or know someone who is unionized, vote so that bad politicians may not take away this right.

If you have a brother, friend, neighbor who may benefit from Deferred Action - which protects students from deportation - get out

and vote so that a new administration may not revoke this.

If you have a relative, friend, or neighbor that is undocumented, then get out and vote so that he or she may stilll hope to adjust his/her situation. Vote so that there may not be a president who wants to implement a law such as Arizona's SB-1070 all over the nation- so that we live under the terror of deporation and family separation, or second-class citizenship for people who "look undocumented".

There is no excuse for not voting. I could give you a lot more reasons to get out and vote - but the one that is more important is that I want you to be my voice in these elections- because I and six million other humans in this country can not do it ourselves.

Get out and vote. Please.

¿Por qué es importante que votes? Permíteme te decir algunas razones.

Palermo Workers Strike a Major Focus on Labor Day in Milwaukee and Nationally

Miembros de Voces y la Unión de Trabajadores de Palermo se unieron al contirgente local de United Steelworkers en el desfile y festival anual en Milwaukee del Día del Trabajo. Muchos trabajadores de Palermo trajeron a sus familias, algunos los cuales también cargaron letreros, banderas, banderines, noisemakers y literatura informativa.

Members of Voces and striking members of the Palermo Workers Union joined with the local United Steelworkers contingent in the annual Milwaukee Labor Day parade and Labor Fest. Many Palermo workers brought their families, some of whom also carried signs, flags, banners, noisemakers, and informational literature.

"En realidad es abrumador el ver a la comunidad ofrecer tanto apoyo para nuestra lucha," dijo Laura Torres. Solo me enorgullese el ser parte de la familila de trabajadores de Milwaukee".

“It is really overwhelming to see the community offer so much support for our struggle, said Laura Torres It just makes me proud to be a part of Milwaukee’s labor family.”

Palermo’s Workers Speak Out Following Washington DC Meeting

Orlando Sosa, un empleado en la Villa Palermo por más de diez años y miembro del Comité Organizador de la Unión de Trabajadores de Palermo, expresó los sentimientos de los trabajadores cuando dijo, "Palermo dice que ellos son una familia, pero que clase de familia se rehusa el hablar uno con el otro.

Orlando Sosa, an employee of Palermo Villa for more than ten years and a member of the Organizing Committee of the Palermo Workers Union, expressed the sentiment of the workers when he said, “Palermo’s says they are a family company, but what kind of family refuses to talk with one another?"

Workers offered immediate reaction to the outcome of a highly anticipated meeting between Palermo’s CEO Giacomo Fallucca and AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka in Washington D.C.

The AFL-CIO made it clear that they did not speak on behalf of the workers at Palermo Villa who are on strike for union recognition. The AFL-CIO communicated the Palermo employees most basic demand to the company: meet with the Palermo employees directly. At the meeting, Mr. Giacomo Falluca did not agree to meet with the striking workers.

Trabajadores de Palermo en huelga pausaron su línea de piqueteo diario frente a Palermo en el 3301 Oeste Calle Canal en Menomonee Valley para una conferencia de prensa el viernes a las 2:30 PM. Los trabajadores ofrecieron su reacción inmediata al resultado de la altamente anticipada reunión entre el CEO de Palermo, Giacomo Falluca t el Presidente de AFL-CIO en Washington D.C., Richard Trumka.

El AFL-CIO hizo claro que ellos no hablan a nombre de los trabajadores de la Villa Palermo quien estan en huelga para el reconocimiento de la unión. El AFL-CIO comunicó la demanda más a la compañía: Que se reuna con los trabajadores de Palermo directamente. En la reunión el Sr. Giacomo Falluca no estuvo de acuerdo con reunirse con los trabajadores en huelga.

Mike Bolton del United Steelworkers le dijo a los huelguistas, "nuestro compromiso hacia ustedes-ustedes no van a estar en esta lucha solos. Juntos lucharemos la gerencia en las calles, sala de juntas y su sus clubes sociales, y nosotros lucharemos un día más de lo que ellos estan dispuestos".

Mike Bolton of the United Steelworkers told strikers, “our commitment to you is—you will never be in this fight alone. Together we will fight management in the streets, in the boardroom, and at their country clubs. And we will fight one day longer than they are willing to.”
