The Octopuppy by

Martin McKennaEdgar, really wants a puppy. Instead he receives an octopus named Jarvis. Edgar is disappointed in Jarvis because he could not do any of the things a dog can do such as: lie down, play dead, and sit. Despite this, Edgar decides to enter Jarvis into a dog show, Jarvis does not perform well because he was not a dog. Jarvis is sad that he has let Edgar down, so he decides to go back to the ocean. As soon as Jarvis is gone, Edgar realizes he was wrong to ask Jarvis to be something he was not. Jarvis is actually much smarter than a dog. Edgar sends a message into the ocean to ask Jarvis to come home. As soon as Jarvis gets Edgar’s message he comes home.

Children will be provided with colored paper and a cut-out of an octopus (various colors will be available). They will then have the option to decorate their octopus however they chose. They can use crayons, markers, or paper flower cut-outs to make the octopus’s garden. For the eyes, parents, will get to chose if their child gets goggly eyes or if their child will draw the eyes. Likewise, for the suction cups, there will be a choice between a round cereal (Cheerios or Fruit Loops) or to draw the cups.
