It’s a wonderful time of the year. With summer behind us, we always look forward to the changing weather, cool nights, and glorious fall colors! Our outdoor dining is still in full swing, so come enjoy drinks after work or dinner on the patio, and soak in the gorgeous views overlooking the golf course. Please keep in mind that dinner and brunch reservations are highly encouraged. Our goal is to provide the best service we possibly can. We staff the Tri-Brook according to history, but making reservations is the surest way for us to properly staff to ensure you receive quality service from BettyJo and her team. When we get a large number of walk-ins (which we certainly welcome), it sometimes can be difficult to provide the service you deserve and we desire. Even if you call us 30 minutes before you dine, we truly appreciate any advance notice you can give us, so Thank You in advance for making your reservations with us! We have quite a few fun activities slated this fall. Thursdays should prove to be quite popular, and many thanks to Tom Maxwell for his idea leading to Franklins and Burgers. For those who haven’t heard, every Thursday the club will put up $100 cash money in the pot, with a maximum of $500. If you dine with us that week and your name is drawn from the member list, you’ll win what’s in the pot. If no member wins, the club will add $100 each Thursday night up to $500 and keep drawing until we have a winner. So come enjoy a delicious burger or entree on Thursday’s, and you could win big money! Save the date for some special events. On Wednesday, October 18, we’re having a wine dinner in The View, featuring wines from Rockbridge Vineyards. And we have rescheduled the Crab Feast for Saturday, October 21 on the patio, and have added a twist! It will now be the Crab and Oyster Fest -we’ll do it on the Tri-Brook patio (weather permitting), so come and enjoy all that Chef Bunyan and his culinary team have to offer. Our beautiful tennis courts have been busier than ever, and we are making a commitment to make our tennis program. I’m pleased to announce that we have a new tennis professional, Holden Branham. Holden’s goal is to make LGCC Tennis the best it can be. He will be offering private and group instruction, scheduling play days, groups, leagues and even a club championship! We will be investing in tennis equipment and apparel, which will be available for purchase in the golf shop, and we will most likely purchase a racket stringing machine for repairing tennis rackets. So for those of you who love tennis, please reach out to Holden and welcome him to the LGCC team! As you are probably aware, our golf course equipment is aged, and we were plagued with several breakdowns this summer. Your board has approved a capital lease of six new pieces of equipment for the golf course, four of which we just received and have put into operation. We have two new fairway mowers and two rough trim mowers now in service, and will receive a new tractor and pull behind rough mower to be delivered early next spring. This will allow us to better maintain the course for your golfing pleasure. See you at the Club!! Mike Ahrnsbrak General Manager

from the SuPerintendentWe started overseeding the fairways in late September with perennial ryegrass and a balanced fertilizer to help the new seedlings mature. We typically use a strong variety of ryegrass that grows as long as possible into the summer. In late July or August the heat cause some plants to die and some to go into dormancy. The dormant plants will come back as the temperature moderates. We just received two new fairway and two new rough units. These are the first part of

a replacement plan for all the golf maintenance equipment. The units these are replacing had high usage hours and spent a lot of time getting repaired this summer. This plan allows us to have a better chance to get the mowing done even when we get rained out or the golf schedule gives us a compressed work schedule.

a Senior moment by Mike EvansFirst, the good news is that the senior men only suffered one loss since the last newsletter; the bad news is that we only had one match during that period. The road loss came at the hands of Waynesboro Country Club 65-79 on August 24. The sole two teams winning their pairs matches were Hallock-South and

Calkins-Gill. Charlie Hallock also took closest-to-pin honors. Currently the season record stands at 5-9 with four matches remaining, home and away versus Ashley Plantation and Falling River.
