It’s been nine months since we began leading worship ser- vices in Chenoa, and about two months since we officially sent out some of our church family to begin Christ Com- munity Church of Chenoa. Much has occurred during these months to keep the work moving forward so I thought I’d give a quick update regarding the Chenoa Church. First, one of the most encouraging aspects of the church in Chenoa is that almost every week, new people are showing up to worship. While our end goal is not merely to gather a crowd on Sundays, but to make everyday disciples, we are still very encouraged by the way in which many people are inviting others to participate in the life of the Chenoa church. Second, the building “sale” (i.e. title transfer) is also com- plete and some renovations will occur in the sanctuary be- ginning tomorrow (11/6). The platform will be reconfigured to better suit a worship band and new audio-visual equip- ment will be installed. Thank you to all the volunteers who will be chipping in to make this renovation possible and eco- nomical. If you’re interested and able to help, please contact Kyle ([email protected]). Third, the most significant update pertaining to Chenoa is actually related to a mistake that we have made in church planting (live and learn!). The mistake is this: We haven’t sent elders to work alongside Kyle in leading the Chenoa church. As a result, Kyle has often expressed to me his dis- comfort in feeling like he is sole decision-maker on Chenoa church matters and also how Sunday mornings feel like the “Kyle show” because he leads almost every element of the service (I appreciate Kyle’s awareness in this regard). Fur- ther, a number of the folks who have gone to Chenoa from Gridley have expressed to the Gridley elders that they feel like we sent them out with a pat on the back and said “Go get ‘em,” but have been absent ever since. The elders in Gridley agree, this criticism is completely justified. Today, after the worship service we’re having a church meeting in Chenoa to explain a better way forward. After talking as a group of el- ders, we believe that a good step forward is twofold: First, we need some of our current elders to focus their work in Chenoa and commit to participating in the life of the Chenoa Church. Secondly, we need to begin training up elders from the Chenoa church to lead in the future in Chenoa. Beginning immediately, Tim Johnson and Al Hany, two of our current elders, will begin participating in the life of the church in Chenoa and leading alongside Kyle in worship, in decision-making, and in pastoral care. In addition to Tim and Al focusing their work in Chenoa, we have asked Mark Edelman and Greg Besgrove to be elders in training. Mark and Greg each live in Fairbury, have been in the Chenoa church from the get-go and were enthusiastic about pursuing eldership when presented with this oppor- tunity to grow. They will begin attending elders meetings, working with Kyle, Al, and Tim, and also going through the Shepherds Institute elder training curriculum. In addition to planning for elder leadership, Kyle has also been recruit- ing and working with some ministry team leaders to bring further organization to the church in Chenoa. Children’s Ministry, meals, hospitality, technology, stewardship, and prayer teams are currently being put together. This new step of organization allows people in the church to find a place that fits their gifts to serve. I’m encouraged by the willingness of so many people to work faithfully so that the work in Chenoa continues to go forward. Please continue to pray zealously for Christ to be increasingly known and worshipped in Chenoa and the Prairie Central School district. Jr. High Lock-in

RightNow Media was used as a resource for the lock-in. “Dug Down Deep” is a four-part video series that helped the students think about planting themselves deep into God’s word for their spiritual growth.

The Jr. High Lock-In had record attendance with 84 students. They enjoyed games, study, snacks, and very little sleep.

Perspectives is a 16-week study on God’s heart for the na-tions. Each week a new teacher—a missionary, pastor or pro-fessor—teaches the class on the biblical, historical, cultural, and strategic pieces of missions. Pastor Andy will teach the third week on January 25.

Christ Community highly values the content and teach-ing found in a Perspectives class. Many enter the class with a missions-minded heart but skeptical that their perspective will change. But the class is aptly named. Nearly all (if not all), complete the class with a new and deeper understanding (per-spective) of missions.

The class meets January 11 through April 26, 2018 at Grace Church, 1311 W Hovey Ave, Normal, from 6-8:45 pm on

Thursdays. If you are interested in missions, serving in a lead-ership position or involved in any way at Christ Community, we urge you to enroll in Perspectives to learn more about our core value of Beautiful Feet.

The cost to attend the class is $280 with a $30 early discount if regis-tered by December 1st. The Mis-sions team will have scholarships available. Please see Keri Hany or Pastor Grant Stauter with any questions There are family discounts available. Enroll on-line: www.perspectives.org

If you have questions, please see Keri Hany or Pastors Andy Huette and Grant Stauter.
