cOLLEgE cARE PAcKAgESIt’s time to send a back-to-school gift to our college students again! Every year we send students a box of goodies, toiletries, snacks, and resources to meet their needs and let them know we care about them. Each box costs about $20 to put together and mail, so we need YOUR HELP in funding them! Envelopes are available in your Sunday School boxes for collection, you can give money directly to Josh, or give on the website at www.cbcfc.org/give. Thanks for your help!
OPERATION cHRISTMAS cHILD TODAYTouch the heart of a special child this Christmas by sending a gift-filled shoebox and the Good News of Jesus Christ.• Pick up a shoebox when you leave either worship service.• Decide whether your gift will be for a boy or girl and tape the brochure label to the top of the shoebox.• Fill the box with gifts. (Please review gift suggestion guide in brochure.)• Include a $9 donation for shipping cost for each shoebox (cash or check payable to Samaritan’s Purse) on top of gift items. If you give this donation online, please place the barcode on the shoebox.• Place a rubber band around the shoebox to secure gift items.• Bring the shoebox back to church on November 3.
WOMEN ON MISSION October 15Our speaker will be Betsy Duncan Barr, a former international mission-ary, who along with her husband, Philip, is now involved in establishing an International Church in West Knoxville. Come hear about this new missions adventure for the Barr family. 10:30am in the Chapel. OUR MINISTRY: love offering to the WMU Foundation in memory of Judy Trivette.
cBcFc/cHS PARTNERSHIP OPPORTUNITY October 25Volunteers from our church will serve the faculty and support staff of Central High School our annual Fall Luncheon: homemade soups, salad bar, homemade desserts, iced tea and water. Please join us in supporting our neighborhood high school. You can serve by donating a soup or dessert, donate money to cover expenses, and/or pray for this partnership. Please contact Denise Brown (865-230-3254), Debbie Crowder (865-603-4723) or Judy Weber (865-216-1816) to volunteer.
cHS WEIgHT ROOM FOOD PANTRYWe’ve learned that many of the students who workout at the school do not have access to the proper diet to help sustain them through the day. We want to provide them with high protein snacks to help. Donations are being collected outside of Josh’s office on a continuing basis. Sug-gested items include jars of peanut butter, loaves of bread, Beef Jerky Trail Mix, tuna packs, granola bars, peanut butter or cheese crackers, nuts, protein bars.

, PromptingsI’ve been observing congregations for a long time, paying special attention to how they respond during times of transition. Some congregations go on hold. Others thrive. Somehow, their members deepen their commitment to Christ, the church, and being God’s good news in their communities. Each congregation, of course, is unique, but those which thrive while in transition share some qualities. Their members choose:
• To embrace faith rather than fear• To show up• To pray together and as individuals• To volunteer for and practice a ministry• To listen well to one another • To listen well to the Spirit• To seek out, invite, bring, and acclimate friends to the congregation• To give regularly • To embrace and work a search process in cooperation with elected leadership• To prepare themselves to welcome the next pastor into their lives
Can Central Baptist Church of Fountain City not only survive but thrive throughout the transition times? After a little over eight years of shared ministry with you, I know you can.
Here’s a bit of pastoral advice: Start practicing the ten actions this week and in the weeks to follow. If you do so, CBCFC will hit the formal transition running strong.
