The Women's Ultimate Frisbee team started off their season winning the first tournament, the Devil's Disk Tournament, held by Duke on October 9th. The team played very well defeating Duke, Elon, and Wake Forest. It was the first time the team has won against both Duke and Wake. Our hard work at the beginning of the year made for some spectacular defense points as well as a great effort from this year's rookie players. Every new player scored at least once and played hard through all five games. The team had fun, worked well together, and experienced the spirit of the game. This weekend the Women's Ultimate Team will travel to Raleigh for NC State's Wolfpack Invitational Tournament. The level of play will be higher, and the team could not be more excited.

The Men’s Ultimate team has been hard at work after our victory at the Big South tournament. The team seems to be focused and ready to make a statement this year. This coming weekend we will be competing in the Wolf Pack Invitational tournament in Raleigh. This tournament is a great chance for the team to prove ourselves as one of the top teams in the state as we will be competing against teams from all over the southeast but mainly North Carolina teams. We hope to continue our success and hopefully return with another victory.

On October 1st and 2nd AHO women’s rugby hosted the Rucktoberfest tournament at state farm fields. The weekend was a huge success for our team. Nine women’s teams came to Boone for this event. Teams we played included USC, JMU and UVA’s A and B sides. We played really great and on Saturday we won two of our three games. On Sunday our team played an amazing game against UVA’s A side in which we were not far behind. Overall the weekend was a huge success. Sunday the 23rd, the weekend following Fall Break, our team is set to play our Rugby Alumni following an exciting day of Football at the Rock on Saturday. Homecoming weekend will be a great chance for us to come together even more.

Also on the horizon, cyclocross season is fast approaching. The first race begins November 6. The team has been racing cross on Tuesday nights at the Boone fairgrounds and practicing skills on Wednesdays to gear up for the upcoming race weekends. Nationals are in

January in Madison, WI (brrrrrrrrrr!) so the team has a few months to get their legs

ready for some tough racing then.

By this point all of the ASU Fencing Club's new fencers are bout-ready, having learned most of the basic footwork and blade work of fencing. With a firmer grasp of the rules of right of way they are also showing significant progress in learning how to judge bouts and call respective actions. With the club's first mock tournament finished we hope to get most our new and more experienced fencers pumped up for an upcoming team event that will be hosted here at ASU sometime this semester. It should be a very unique and fun time for all participating considering that unlike the mock tournament the success of the participants will not only hinge on one's own individual performance, but the entire performance of the team they are affiliated with.

Women’s Lacrosse Appalachian State’s Women’s Lacrosse team is excited to report their continued success after two wins at Radford University. Radford hosted a tournament supporting Breast Cancer Awareness and Appalachian State, Lynchburg College, and the University of Mary Washington came out for a gorgeous day of lacrosse. The App State girls got an early start to travel to Virginia on Saturday, October 8th. The team’s first game verse Radford was unfortunately lost, 7-8. Radford proved to be good competitors for App State and the game was obviously an exciting one. Appalachian played hard but

after losing such a close game they were determined to play harder in their next two games.

The team pulled it together and won their second game versus Lynchburg 15-4. The turnaround came about due to positive attitudes and a more focused and awake team. Playing two games in a span of 4 hours was exhausting; however Appalachian still had one more game against Mary Washington. Mustering up all of their energy, App managed to play a clean, smooth game and won 11-2. Goals were spread across multiple players, showing the true

potential of this year’s team. Appalachian’s defense had a strong presence on the field and the attack made a lot of smart decisions in order to capitalize on their strengths. The team left tired but excited about their two wins.

After Radford, this lacrosse team’s record is 3-1. This weekend, Duke’s Women’s Lacrosse team is hosting Appalachian and UNC-Wilmington for a Sunday play day. The girls are determined to keep up their hard work and give it their all at Duke!

Hot off our 3rd place overall team finish at the Virginia Tech huntseat show this past weekend, the Huntseat branch of the club Equestrian Team is starting off the showing season with a huge bang. This is the highest team placing in the ASU team’s history! Placing only behind Virginia Intermont College and Virginia Tech University (1st and 2nd respectively), both schools who offer

equestrian studies programs on campus. Individual rider accomplishments include two first place blue ribbons from Beginning Walk/Trot/Canter rider Katie Sedlmeyer and Intermediate rider Morgan Erlenbach. This coming weekend the Dressage team will head up to Virginia Intermont to compete in their second show of the season.

The Club Sports Council has been busy at work this semester. This past meeting we had two teams (Women’s Basketball and Quidditch) come give proposals to the Council as to why they should become a Appalachian State Club Sport. After many questions and intense discussion and deliberation, the Council would like to welcome Women’s Basketball to the Club Sports family! We are very excited for them and what they will bring to our Club Sports program and to the school as a whole. Also listed below are the updated Council dates for the remainder of the semester.
