Yes, I am a liberal and as liberal as can beI’ve got you here, unwillingly, to hear my wanting plea.As I see you start to snarl and to wrinkle up your noseThen I will show you liberally the topic that I chose.

You are jumping to conclusions about my open-minded ways. My liberal interpretations, they seem moderate these days.

Here goes:

I want a liberal amount of highway lanes from Bainville west to Troy.I want a load of liberal commerce for the Hi-line to enjoy. From the border north to Canada, these should intersect.Would more liberal border hours be too much to expect?

Freethinking and conception and a baby could be dropped. Is there a liberal amount of children for those who will adopt?Yes, I’m always tolerant and won’t ruffle up a feather. But if they don’t want a baby, keep their garments all together.

Liberal and abundant, they just go hand in hand.Let’s try a liberal amount of industry to bolster up this land.Would a generous tax reduction help those creating jobs?Would an increase in their taxes go to help some wasteful slobs?

There’s one unwanted industry, unhealthier than germs. They’re building methamphetamine with no liberal prison terms. This impairs freethinking and is no way to unwind.Should I point a liberal finger, if enforcement, it is blind?

I’m on my liberal soapbox with some holes between the slats. It’s like a rusting auto, two tires, ... they are flats.Inflation, it’s for prices, the tank is out of gas.I’ll leave that picture in your mind for fear of being crass.

I’m so cotton pickin’ liberal that I shoot off like a rocket.Have they micro chipped the money, for they know what’s in my pocket? This is the land of the free and the home of the brave,Will there now be a tax on the daylight that I save?

Blood pressure’s back to normal and I’m on to liberal gunsOwn it for your “peace of mind” or own it just for funFill your freezer up with deer and then get another loadThen they won’t be on your bumper or be splattered on the road.

It’s not some monumental status; Montana, it is ours. Freethinkings fight to keep it from some folks with higher powers. But one higher power owns it all and he’s way up on the top,I’ve saved the best for last and this liberal now will stop.

Money Talks

Profit From Your Losses Towards the end of the year, investors begin to size up theperformance of their investments for the year. Our winning positions, bothrealized and unrealized fill us with great satisfaction while our losers sit there and stare us square in the face.Attempting to take advantage of yourlosses may help you overcome them both psychologically and financially. First let’s cover the basics.Short-term capital gains and lossesare incurred in a holding period of one year’s time or less.Long-term gainsand losses are incurred over more than a one-year holding period.Short-term gains are subject to the individual’s ordinary income tax rates, up to amaximum of 35%.For 2010, long-term gains are taxed at a 15% maximumfor taxpayers above the 15% income tax bracket and long-term gains aretaxed at a 0% maximum for those in the 10% and 15% tax brackets. The IRS allows taxpayers to match all short-term gains and lossesagainst each other.Long-term gains and losses are also matched againsteach other.Any overall short-term gain or loss is then netted against anylong-term gain or loss.If the result is a negative amount, no capital gainstaxes are due and losses can be used to offset ordinary income up to$3,000 in the current tax year.Additional losses may be carried forward tobe used in future years. One last important note is the wash sale. A wash sale occurswhen a taxpayer sells a stock at a loss and either has acquired or acquiresduring a period beginning 30 days before the sale and ending 30 days afterthe sale substantially similar stock through a purchase, taxable exchangeor purchase of an option. If a wash sale occurs, no loss is recognized fortax purposes on the sale. The loss that would have been recognized, butfor the wash sale rule, is added to the basis of the newly acquired stock. With these facts in mind, we can examine tax loss selling as thegovernment’s way of letting you recoup a little something from the lossesyou have taken in the stocks you own. Tax-loss selling does not turn aloss into a gain, but it may put more post-tax dollars into your pocket. Ifyou sell before the end of the year and turn paper losses into real losses, you reduce the taxes you owe on any profits you took during the year. Remember, this strategy is for taxable accounts only. Psychologically, selling your losers to offset gains in your portfoliocan help you to view the loss in a more positive light.Sell the loser andmove on.Or, if you are really convinced the stock is not a long-term loser, and that you just experienced unfortunate timing, you can sell the stockunder the wash rules and re-purchase it 31 days later. You will take the lossand re-establish your position. As always, you should discuss and coordinate tax-loss strategieswith your financial and tax advisors.

Today’s article may not be a health related issue, but it sureis a common question we get asked at the vet clinic… what can I doabout my dog getting sprayed by a skunk? This receipe was developed by a chemist. It is a safe andinexpensive solution for removing the stink from your animal.

1 Quart 3% Hydrogen Peroxide ¼ c baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) 1 tsp liquid soap

Mix the above in a bucket and wash the affected animalwith the mixture “straight up”. Keep it away from the eyes noseand mouth of both human and animal. The skunk odor shoulddisappear immediately if you get a good coverage. You can shampooand rinse the animal after.

The Blonde CookbookMonday - It’s fun to cook for Tom. Today I made angel food cake. The recipe said beat 12 eggs separately. The neightbors were nice enough to loan me some extra bowls.

Tuesday - Tom wanted fruit salad for supper. The recipe said serve without dressing. So I didn’t dress. What a surprise when Tom brough a friend home for supper.

Wednesday - A good day for rice. The recipe said wash thoroughly before steaming the rice. It seemed kind of silly but I took a bath anyway. I can’t say it improved the rice any.

Thursday - Today Tom asked for salad. Again, I tried a new recipe. It said prepare ingredients; lay on a bed of lettuce one hour before serving. Tom asked me why I was rolling around in the garden.

Friday - I found an easy recipe for cookies. It said put the ingredients in a bowl and beat it. There must have been something wrong with this recipe. When I got back, everything was the same as when I left.

Saturday - Tom did the shopping today and brought home a chicken. He asked me to dress it for Sunday. I didn’t have any clothes that fit it, and for some reason Tom kept counting to ten.

Sunday - Tom’s folks came to dinner. I wanted to serve roast but all I had was hamburger. Suddenly I had a flash of genius. I put the hamburger in the oven and set the controls for roast. It still came out hamburger, much to my disappointment.

GOOD NIGHT DEAR DIARY. This has been a very exciting week! I am eager for tomorrow to come so I can try out a new recipe on Tom. If I can talk Tom into buying a bigger oven, I would like to surprise him with a chocolate moose.

Ramblings of a Conservative Cow Doctor

Shoot the Cow My three-year-old grandson, Grant, speaks a fascinating language where he replaces nouns with verb phrases. For example, a fish is a “catch-a-water”, an airplane is a “brrrr-up” and a gun is a “shoot-it.” Since his mother is a type-A, speech and language pathologist, I don’t worry about Grant’s speech peculiarity, that’s her job, but he blurted a phrase last Saturday which made me chuckle. All six of my grandkids were feeding at Fuddruckers in Great Falls where marketing experts have cleverly melded a video arcade into the dining experience. (A hamburger and fries are now the cheapest part of family dining.) Grant broke his hamburger into tiny pieces, mixed it with his catsup and fries and then covered it with his napkin; he finished lunch without actually swallow anything. Grant tugged at my sleeve with his left hand, while he dug in my pocket for quarters with his right hand, all while hollering, “Shoot-the-cow!” Apparently “shoot-the-cow” means let’s feed dollars into the arcade machines. You could be driving a video race car, or playing air hockey but every joystick is a gun and the term for the activity is “shoot-the-cow.” As the machines sucked all the hard earned dollars from my wallet I studied my daughter and son-in-law and wondered, “From which side of Grant’s redneck, road-hunting, heritage does the term ‘shoot-the-cow’ originate?” Granted, the Kerns side hails from the Crow Reservation of southern Montana, and the Kimmel side was cultured on the Turner grasslands of northern Montana, so a chinook wind blows ripe rednecks from every branch of the family tree. It is hard to be certain, but I told you this story so you would understand gun rights run deeply in both my ancestors and progeny, and this brings me to my point. Your right to “keep and bear arms” is about to be infringed. The Second Amendment is not about hunting, sport shooting, sportsmen access to public lands or gun collecting, it’s about freedom. Our founders placed it number two in the Bill of Rights so the ruling class must always seek the consent of the governed…a well armed governed actually. Unfortunately, gun-control politicians are masters of deception. As long as they can fool 50.1 percent of the voters to think they are pro-gun, the con continues…all while they incrementally tighten the gun-control noose. Do you need proof? In March of 2010 the Obama administration switched positions so as to prohibit the importation of 850,000 Korean War era, used M1 semi-automatic rifles into the United States from South Korea. Fox News reports the US State Department said the decision was “based on concerns that the guns could fall into the wrong hands.” Could the wrong hands be the once free Americans guaranteed a right which shall not be infringed? To deceptively show they are pro-gun, last week Montana’s Sena-tors Baucus and Tester proposed legislation lifting this ban. Gun-control progressives will flock to cosponsor this bill because it sounds so pro-freedom, but are you aware what they are doing with the hand hidden behind their back? Let me explain. Two recent US Supreme Court decisions affirmed your rights to keep and bear arms: DC v. Heller in 2008 and McDonald v. Chicago in 2010. Both decisions were handed down on a five to four vote, so four progressive justices interpret the Constitution allows the infringement of gun rights. President Obama Supreme Court appointee, Justice Sotomayor, voted with the minority as likely will newest appointee, Elena Kagan. Americans are just one Supreme Court vote away from being disarmed and both these progressive justices were confirmed by progressive senators…the same ones deceptively clamoring to lift the M1 gun ban. Gun owners must understand your battle is in the Supreme Court and you don’t affirm your gun rights with bullets, you do so with ballots. Your vote means things and progressives want you disarmed. Think about it. In the 2009 Montana Legislative session I successfully sponsored legislation affirming a Montanan’s fundamental right of self defense and the right to keep and bear arms. Because we are so close to losing gun rights, I want Montana Code filled with verbiage declaring our rights to self preservation…sort of a thorn in the side of those advocating for a tyrannical, unconstitutional, federal government. My task is not complete and, should the voters in HD#58 return me to office, I have more to do in 2011. The line is drawn!
