Mickey Harder A South Carolina native, Harder holds degrees from Coker College and
Converse College and has continued her studies at Boston University, the
University of Georgia, Amherst College and the American Conservatory at
Fontainebleau, France.
Harder came to Clemson with her husband in 1972 when he accepted the
position as team physician for Clemson Athletics. Since that date, she has
tirelessly devoted her time to nurturing performing arts at the University.
In 1966, Harder became the Director of the Brooks Center for Performing
Arts, where she used this opportunity to provide the ability for Clemson
students and local arts patrons to experience countless performances.
A member of the music faculty at Clemson prior to directing the Brooks
Center, Harder taught piano lessons and music theory since 1972. She pro-
vided classical music training to students as well as the tools to succeed as
musicians long after graduation.
Mickey will be playing the piano for us, playing old Broadway tunes and
familiar tunes we all enjoy.

Helping Seniors Maintain Their Independence
Clemson Downs Christmas Fund
In lieu of tipping and gratuities for employees,
the Resident Council maintains a tradition of collecting voluntary monetary contributions throughout the year from the residents. The money collected is distributed to the employees of Clemson Downs at Christmas as a means of thanking them for their service throughout the year. There is a donation box set up in the Admin-istration Building so that residents can contrib-ute throughout the year. At the end of Novem-ber each year, the amount donated is divided among all employees. One part recognizes their status as an employee; the second part is based on their length of service. There is not a set amount to give, we only ask that you give as generously as you can. Please contact Co-Chairs, Bill Dowler (Apt B-205) at 864-903-4139 or Sandra Barlow (Apt B-214) at 850-294-0751 with any questions.
OCTOBER 27TH Clemson Downs will be celebrating Family Fun Day on Saturday, October 27th from 11-4. Lunch for residents will be served in the Main Dining Room, as usual. Come out and cheer on our employees and their families as they compete in the employee kickball game at 3:00. Residents are welcome to take part in any of our friendly competitions including our hourly cake walks in the Downstairs Corley, the cornhole tourna-ment at 1:00, a water balloon toss and our egg carry relay race. There will be a Kids Korner in the field by E-building with a bounce house, horse rides, face painting and balloon animals. Grand-children are welcome!!!! Enjoy live mu-sic from 12-2:30 on the front porch of the Corley Center. Raffles will be held during the day for Clemson Downs employees. This is a chance to see our staff with their loved ones. We hope to see you there!
A NOTE FROM DINING SERVICES
For those who have expressed an interest in lower sodium diets, we want to offer some suggestions as you go through the serving line. Hopefully, this will make your dining experience more enjoyable and healthy. • For every vegetable that we prepare, we offer a low sodium or salt free option. • Sweet potatoes and baked potatoes that contain no sodium are available. • Baked chicken is always available on the buffet line. • There are single meat options that can be prepared without seasonings upon request. • Hamburgers and chicken from the grill are salt free when requested. • We have a fantastic salad bar that has salt free items for your selection. • Please feel free to ask your server what other salt free options are available. They will be glad to
assist you. We appreciate the recent input and we have been working diligently on being more creative with sodium free choices. We want our residents to feel at ease with the food being served. We will host a seminar within the next couple of months to educate residents on selections that are considered high in sodium and to hear & answer suggestions and / or concerns you may have. (Example: processed food such as cakes, pies, deli meats etc.) We will post a date, time and location as soon as it is available.
