As we are closing the end of the 1 st quarter for this school year, I would like to thank all of our parent volunteers and PTSA committee for another successful cookie fundraising event. All the hard work put in by the volunteers, staff, and students is greatly appreciated. Funds raised will help support our student activities throughout the year. On October 24 th , we will be having a special Community Presentation by Sgt. Lance Okasaki of the Kauai Police Department on Cyberbullying. Some of the topics to be featured are Bullying, Online Friends and Social Networking. I encourage you to attend this informational presentation and hope to see you there. Student report cards will be generated and sent home on October 27 th . The report card for Kindergarten and Grades 3 - 5 has changed for school year 2017-2018. Please visit the Department of Education’s website for more information on the new report card or you may call the school for more information. As we reflect on this past quarter, King Kaumuali’i Elementary School continues the focus on Instruction as well as teacher collaboration. For our Complex Waiver Day held on September 11, 2017, we looked at the Next Generation Science Standards which the Department of Education will be adopting by school year 2020 – 2021. Please continue to provide the support for your child/ren as we continue into the next quarter of the school year. Have a safe and restful Fall break. Criticism often discourages children from trying. Encouraging children is a better approach. This means finding whatever good there is in a situation and

mentioning only that. Recognition of good qualities motivates children to try harder. This in turn, enables them to improve. Encouragement fosters

At King Kaumualii, all box top coupon funds raised is used to supplement admissions and bus fares for our field trips. A collection sheet is attached for your child to complete. Simply clip the coupon (expiration date must be intact) and staple or tape one “box top” coupon onto each rectangle. Upon completion, please write your child’s name, grade and teacher on the sheet and return to the office. Keep up the good work. It truly benefits our students.
