YEAR 12 FAREWELLS
Our Year 12s had their final classes, attended the celebration breakfast and whole school assembly and then departed
on a bus for a day of fun and frivolity. The next night we all attended their Graduation Dinner.
At the Graduation Dinner the following awards were presented and all students received their graduation certificate
and commemorative sash. It was a great night for the school community to recognise our students as they came to
the end of thirteen years of schooling. They were proud of their achievements and we were so proud of them.
We wish them well in their upcoming exams and look forward to hearing of their future pathways.

THE ART NEWS
MUSIC NEWS
It gives me pleasure to announce that Luke Wilson and Tara Karkas
received a high distinction for their AMEB grade two theory examination
which was held in August at the Box Hill Town Hall.
These students also have instrumental music lessons at school and are
undertaking AMEB practical exams and VCE music exams in their relevant
instruments.
Congratulations and well done! Kim Ball (Woodwind Teacher)
Year 7 NGV Excursion
The year 7’s went on an excursion to the NGV Art Gallery. The students spent the day there looking at different
varieties of artworks and were told to take photos of ones that inspired us.
Over all, the experience was great because, there weren’t just paintings, there were sculptures, furniture, landscapes,
portraits and much more. The NGV is a great place to go for entertainment or if you have a passion for art. It is
completely FREE!!! Written by Tiffany 7E and Amelie 7J
This is Leonard French’s stained glass
ceiling. It took him over 5 years to make as
he built it with his own bare hands and
there are over 10,000 pieces of glass.
This is Pablo Picasso’s famous
‘Weeping Woman.’ It costs over 1.6
million dollars to buy, but at the NGV
you can see it for free.
POP UP ART EXHIBITION AT MUMA
Our VCE Studio Arts and Visual Arts students displayed their work at a pop up exhibition at MUMA (Monash University
of Modern Art). They had the opportunity to learn how to curate an exhibition as well as having an opportunity to
display their work for family, friends and staff at a special celebration event. Congratulations to the following students
who had their work displayed. Thank you to all the staff who supported this event and a special thank you to MUMA
for once again hosting our school.

YEAR 10 & 11 EXAMS
The Year 10 and 11 exams are rapidly approaching. The Exam Navigator will be published to Compass for both students
and parents. In it you’ll find the expectations for GSC exams, equipment that is permissible to take into an exam and
of course the exam schedule. Students must attend all exams or risk failing the subject. Exams are an important
consideration when we decide whether a student has the skills and commitment necessary to be promoted to the
next year level for 2018. Please note, students are only required to be at school for their exams. Students are of
course, welcome to study in the library when they don’t have an exam. It’s important to note that students who chose
to stay at school cannot leave and then come back e.g. to go to the shops. If a student is unable to attend due to a
significant illness the school should be notified. A medical certificate would be required and only then would an exam
be rescheduled.
GLENEAGLES CUP
On Monday 16th of October, GSC welcomed primary students to participate in the annual Gleneagles Cup. The
weather was perfect and we couldn’t quite believe it. The Gleneagles Cup is a wonderful opportunity for our
students to develop their leadership, team work and organisational skills. It started out a number of years ago as a
student led project and is now an annual tradition. Over 600 grade 4 and some grade 3 students, their teachers and
a large number of parents spent the day at Gleneagles. Seven local primary schools competed in soccer, basketball,
netball and volleyball. The teams were coached by Year 9 students over the semester in the lead up to the big day.
Our students ran the day, fed everyone, umpired and coached the matches and did so with great maturity and
common sense. They can be rightly proud of their achievements. They were wonderful ambassadors for this school.
I’m confident that some of the primary school students are already looking forward to when they are at GSC and
they can be one of the year 9 students running the event. Bring on 2022!
We would like to acknowledge Ms Cooper and Ms Boudreau and also thank the many staff who gave generously of
their time and assisted with the Gleneagles Cup this year. Congratulations to Narre Warren North Primary School f or
taking home the Gleneagles Cup for 2017.
NEWSLETTER GOES MONTHLY
The College has invested a great deal of time over the past 18 months in establishing Compass as our primary means
of communication with our school community. As we shifted to ongoing reporting via Compass in 2017, we have seen
record number of logins and parents accessing information about their children.
Our staff have also been utilising Compass to communicate with parents via news feed about up-and-coming events,
homework, CATs, SACs and student achievement.
After much consideration the College has decided that the fortnightly newsletter will now be published via Compass
monthly. In between newsletters, families should continue to check Compass on a regular basis for announcements
about key events and information regarding their children.
GLENEAGLES SC STUDENT GP SERVICE
BY APPOINTMENT ONLY
Range of Service Offered
The GP will provide students with the same services at the school as those provided by GPs in the community, including
management of physical health, mental health, and sexual and reproductive health issues. GPs may also make referrals
to other health services as required. It is anticipated, that where possible, the GP will work with school health and
wellbeing staff to support the broader health and wellbeing programs at the school.
Eligibility
Students enrolled at GSC are eligible to be referred to the service.
The service is not available to staff, non-secondary school-aged students or parents/carers.
Operating Hours
Tuesdays 9 - 1.30pm during the school term.
Cost
There will be no out-of-pocket expenses for the consultation.
Accessing the service
The expected process to access the service is: 1) Students and/or parent/carer will contact their relevant sub-school to be referred to the service.
2) Referrals will be discussed by GSC Wellbeing.
3) Appointment will be made through GSC Wellbeing Manager with the GP or referral to other services will be
made. Students attend the appointment at the allocated date/time.
*Note: Students are expected to follow the process above but can, under exceptional circumstances, seek an
appointment directly with the Practice Nurse or GP by dropping into the school GP clinic at lunchtime. Students
should note that the Wellbeing Manager will be advised that appointments have been sought/scheduled directly
with the centre. This is to account for attendance and for monitoring of services delivery.
Confidentiality
Students have the opportunity to undertake appointments confidentially. Student health information will be kept
confidential.
Contact
GSC Wellbeing Manager Colette Davis provides leadership in the school around the implementation of the program.
She supports and collaborates with the GP and Practice Nurse to ensure effective management of the service, including
the making of appointments and supporting the maintenance of students’ confidentiality in the delivery of primary
health care to students. Integrating the GP service into the school’s broader health and wellbeing programs will also
be a focus, as well as facilitating positive relationships with the Medical Centre and partnerships with community
health providers. For further information, please contact Colette on 9708 1319.
