I apologize for the lateness of this issue. I had the best intentions to have it done as soon as possible after the National, and here it is three months later…

As I’ve done the last couple of years, I’m going to split this issue into two parts. This part contains the August and September meet reports and any non-National ads, and the second part will contain all the Na-tional stuff, including any National-themed ads. I am still waiting for some of the National content but I will get that wrapped up as soon as possible. There is no reason to hold onto this part any longer, so hope-fully it will keep you all busy in the meantime. Thanks for your pa-tience.

There are a number of missing meet reports in this issue. My New Year’s resolution for 2015 is to do a better job contacting the race sec-retaries soon after the weekend to remind them to send me their re-ports in a more timely manner. I know writing the reports can be a drag but without your submissions I don’t have much to publish. Thank you for helping keep this newsletter vibrant and interesting.

Our next issue will be our Versatility issue, whose special ad theme is dedicated to the glory our versatile CWA whippets are achieving in oth-er endeavors, including conformation, coursing, tracking, obedience, agility, flyball, dock diving, therapy work, and any other dog sport to which they set their sights! Whippets truly can (and do!) do it all! Of course regular advertising is always welcome too. This will be the last is-sue of 2014, and in order to get caught up, I’m going to set a very short deadline of JANUARY 15.

DAIRYLAND WHIPPET CLUB Milwaukee, WI

August 30/31, 2014

T he weather forecast was dis-mal. Saturday’s bad weather came after everything was over and put

away. It was perfect timing. All the rain we have had made for a soft track for the Whip-pets. The water tubs were put out both days to help cool down the Whippets. Saturday began with some fog in the ar-ea. Fortunately it burned off before we started racing. We had 14 racers on Satur-day and no puppies. The talented Ursula won two of the four high point races to win the race meet finishing with 25 meet points (3 NARX). Second on the day was Venus, who did win the fourth high point race and accumulating 21 meet points (1 NARX). She finished her ARX taking the 3 ARX points. Third was Benjamin with 20 meet points and winning the third high point. Tied for fourth place with 15 meet points each were Cash and Ursula’s sis-ter, Maud. Maud took the 1 ARX point. Saturday’s conformation judge was Jaqi Ter-

HAAR, Sterling Salukis. Her placements were first Ants, second Travis, third Jackson, and fourth the up and coming Darby. The High Combined Whippet of the day was Travis. We then had the awards presentations fol-lowed by the pot luck. There was spiral cut ham, Janet Siehndel’s delicious beans, Mary Huff’s strawberry feta salad, Gail Wegner’s tomato with cheese among other tasty items. The weather was absolutely beauti-ful and we enjoyed just hanging out. Sunday was rain free but had a tropical dew point and not much of a breeze. We had 15 adults and one puppy competing. Ursula won three of the four high point races to finish with 26 ½ points and 3 national points. The young up and coming Deuce finished with 21 meet points and earned 3 ARX points and one national point to finish second on the day. He won the second high point race. Third was Venus, fourth Chloe and Benjamin and Maud tied for fifth with

14 meet points. Maud took the 1 ARX point. Sunday’s conformation judge was Kevin Carlson, Aeolus Salukis and Whippets. He placed first Chloe, second Jackson, third the puppy Angel and fourth Deuce. Chloe was the High Combined competitor for the day. Sunday Sharon Couzin came with her soft and cushy dog beds/pads and coats for sale. Barb Hearley brought coats, fancy muzzles and leads to sell. It is always nice when quality items are available for sale so owners can get useful things for their dogs. A big thank you to Jennifer Smith and Peggy Berg for box operating. A big thank you to Janet Siehndel who helps on race set up, paddock duties and preparer of delicious food for the potlucks. Peggy Berg is invalua-ble for all she does. Thank you also to Kris-ty Thomas for all her hard work taking dogs down and catching and for the beautiful

bouquet of flowers which graced our food table and to Susan Cook for the flow-ers. Thank you to those who donated priz-es. Sunday Linda Larson (Plumcreek Whip-pets) came to visit. It was nice to see her and her excellent Whippets. Accompanying her was Mr. Hanmin Lee from South Ko-rea. Also coming to compete Sunday was Dr. Connie Brunkow, Fallowfield Whippets and Fran and Barb Hearley. We are very lucky to have a number of great people who come to help out. Tom and Lyn Moran, Carol Smith (Jennifer’s mother), Krista Siehndel, and Lynn Ollswang are of special note and we are grateful. Also, thank you to all the owners who help take down and catch for others. You are a great bunch of people and dogs. - submitted by Doug & Mary Beth Arthur

GEORGIA RAG RACERS Hull, GA

September 20/21, 2014

O n Saturday, we had a race meet en-try of 30 (with no scratches) and 14 in conformation. It was a very ex-

citing day indeed for Georgia Rag Racing… this was our biggest meet to date! The day could not have been more perfect... except we need to fire me as race secretary and hire a new one. We all make errors and learn from it. Thank you Lisa Ochoa for fix-ing it and not yelling at me too loudly. The weather was perfect for dogs and hu-mans, we had no equipment issues, and the track looked better than it’s ever looked (thanks goes to my brother-in-law, Charlie, for keeping it cut this summer). Our match judge was Shannon Lyons of Shannon Down whippets in SC. She had a nice sized entry of 14! Her placements were as follows: first to Bea, second to Puzzle, third to Bess (both Bess and Puzzle were FTEs) and fourth to Streak. River earned the top set of 5 points, with Streak earning the middle set of 3 points, and Dude picking up the bottom 1 point. FTE Stannis earned the top set of 5 points, with the next two sets split by Brandy and Jedi (also a FTE), with each earning 2 points. Saturday’s MEET WINNER was RIVER! Con-gratulations to Deborah and Maurice Bahm. HIGH COMBINED went to one of Georgia Rag Racing’s own members . . . STREAK! Congratulations to Tammy Bennett.

Above: Saturday High Combined — Streak Below: Saturday and Sunday Turtle — Jackie

GEORGIA RAG RACERS Hull, GA

September 20/21, 2014

Definitely last but not least, our TURTLE AWARD went to Jackie. Congratulations Ken Latimer! On Sunday, we had a race meet entry of 24 (with no scratches) and 7 in conformation. Sunday proved to be no different than Sat-urday: everything ran smoothly and it was a perfect day, again with no scratches, prov-ing that the field was in excellent condition. Our match judge was Cindy Hatcher of Ray-bar whippets in TN, who unfortunately had a small entry of only 7 whippets. Since I had just bred one of my bitches to her dog, I felt it was best that I not show under her. Cindy awarded first to Velvet, second to Ginger, third to Puzzle and fourth to Fanny.

Sunday’s NARX points were awarded to Riv-er (4 points) and Streak (2 points). Brandy earned the top set of 4 ARX points, and Jedi earned the bottom set of 2 points. Sunday’s MEET WINNER was once again Riv-er. Congratulations again to Deborah and Maurice Bahm on River’s sweep. HIGH COMBINED went to Fanny, also owned by the Bahms. And again for the second meet in a row our TURTLE AWARD went to Jackie! - submitted by Chris Durance-Watkins

September 20/21, 2014

O nce again we wel-comed our Canadian friends— Barb, How-

ard, Nancy, Pete, and Jen-nifer — and thank them for making the long drive to Northern California. We are so fortunate to have these very special people support our events. We had a nice entry of 21 adults and 3 puppies. Bolt ran well and won the meet but was strongly challenged by the Rosmor gang. Second, third and fourth finishers were litter mates, Lucky, Cosmos and Strega. Fifth place went to everyone's favorite, Marshall. This talent-ed dog never ceases to amaze with his rac-ing skills. I think Miss Bennett was trying to impress her future husband by finishing right behind him in sixth place. Pete, who is the winner of "The Hardest Dog To Box In The World" award, gave a strong showing

and took seventh place. Rounding out the final placements in the Top Ten, were con-sistent Harley, cute, cute Whoopi, the very macho Captain and beautiful Ballie. Shown by her happy owner, Debbie Knut-son, Ballie took the first place honors in our conformation match. Second, went to the very handsome Niko, third went to the love-ly Canadian Champion, Donald, and fourth place went to the very striking Strega.

Strega went on to win the High Score Combined Dog of the meet. Many congrat-ulations to his proud owner, Jack Pulley. Our three adorable puppies all ran with great enthusi-asm, desire and focus. Their owners, Candy Gaiser and Bonnie Moore should be very, very proud of these fine running youngsters. Thank you to everyone who brought the delicious food for our pot luck luncheon. It was outstanding and was Photo by Gary Claggett

thoroughly enjoyed by all of our hungry par-ticipants. My sincere appreciation to everyone who worked so hard to make this a successful and happy day of racing.

I started the day feeling rather sad because this was Bolt's last CWA race meet. At age 6, his owner Barbara Kusha and I, decided it was time for him to retire while he was still on top of his game. In the past five years this fine racer has competed in 25 CWA meets and has won all 25. He has brought much joy and great pride to the Wyndsor name. Once again Bolt did not disappoint us and came out on top again. It was not an easy win because he was again strongly chal-lenged by the Rosmor gang, Lucky, Strega and Cosmo. Top points went to Lucky and

this completed the requirement to get his ARX. Congratulations to his owner and breeder, Leslie Rosko. Miss Bennett ran well and was High BOS in the meet. Rounding out the final placements in the Top Ten were Whoopi, Harley, Jane, Captain and Tal-ly. They all ran extremely well and deserved these high placements in the meet. Our three puppies were most impressive and ran superb. Candy and Bonnie are to be congratulated on these wonderful clean and hard running litter mates. Tally, who finished in the top ten, also won first place in the conformation match. This stunning bitch was our High Score Com-

bined Dog in the meet. Many congratula-tions to her happy owners, Justine and Da-vid Kay. Other winners in the match were Donald, Niko and Zipper. They all showed well and were worthy of their placements. Thank you Kellee for doing such a nice job of judging. Our luncheon was another gourmet delight. So much food and so delicious. We have some very talented chefs in the NCWFA. The NCWFA is a wonderful club and has many wonderful members. Once again their hard work paid off and it was another very incredible weekend. Now I would like to say thank you to these very special people who made it so successful. Brad, my gratitude for everything you did, bringing the trailer, setting up, taking down, running the lure and doing the boxes. Your efforts did not go unnoticed. David Kay, many, many thanks for coming both days to do the lure return. It really makes the meets go so much faster and it is just easier for everyone.

Mary Jean and Ed, we couldn't do it without your support and help. You are so dependa-ble and never let us down. Kim, my appreciation for continuing to do an incredible job running the paddock and practice. I would also like to thank others who were a tremendous help in making this another special weekend: Russell, Rick, Guin, Jenn, Charlotte, Marrianne, Val, Debbie, Bonnie C, Bonnie M, Tina, Erin, Candy, Peter, Nancy and Howard. I respect and thank you all for your help in officiating, running the boxes, foul judging, boxing dogs, catching dogs, setting up, taking down and loading the trailer. You make a great team and I am grateful to you all. I would also like to give a personal thank you to Jennifer Szabo for running and catch-ing my dogs both days. You were a tremen-dous help to me. My last thank you goes to our great race secretary, Kellee Livingston. Once again you did a wonderful job of running the meet. The club appreciates everything you do. - submitted by Jean Balint

RACING FOR FUN Abbotsford, BC

September 27/28, 2014

I t was very touch and go as to whether our Sunday race meet would even hap-pen, but thankfully we were able to get

enough people and dogs to come out and play. Saturday started out very foggy and with only 17 adult starters so we were done the meet by lunchtime! We had to wait a bit for the fog to lift off the field but once it did the weather continued to get better and by the end of the day we were enjoying lunch in picture perfect sunny fall weather. Max had another fine showing, winning all four programs to win the meet. London, Pu-ma and Jack each took turns coming in sec-ond in the high point making for some very exciting racing and close finishes. There were no real surprises in the ARX point race today with both Jack and Hana running very well. With Hana winning the semi race and Jack finishing second in the final high point race there was no fear of any points being lost. What we lacked in numbers we made up for in great company, excellent food and some fun and exciting racing. Sunday dawned with more fog and more entries. With 25 starters and two races in every grade except D, we were in for a very busy day of racing. Max had a repeat performance, winning all four programs to take home the meet win. Puma and Jack were hot on his heals with Jack improving his box break with every meet. Puma edged out his brother Jack for second place by one meet point to take

home his first NARX points. Jack’s third place finish gave him 4 ARX points to finish his ARX title in only four meets! With a meet chalk full of finished ARX dogs, Hana worked her way up the board into 8th place to take home the second set of 2 ARX points. A BIG thank you to everyone who came out and supported the meet this weekend. So glad we were able to get enough people and dogs for both days of racing, as the weather was great even with the morning fog.
