Kathie Lazerwitz loves the visual and performance arts opportunities that are so abundant in the Bloom- ington community. Kathie also values the variety of programs that WTIU offers her every day of the week. This summer Kathie Lazerwitz decided to set up a Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) for the benefit of WTIU. A philanthropist and savvy investor, Kathie knows she will receive a great tax deduction from her CGA gift as well as an annual annuity payment—a little extra for her active life. Kathie and her husband Jim lived in Gary, Indiana where she taught in the Gary Public School System for many years. She witnessed first-hand how important strong literacy skills are to children’s future success. Kathie knows WTIU and PBS care about kids and decided to direct her Charitable Gift Annuity to benefit the WTIU Children’s Programming Endowment. We are grateful for Kathie’s foresight and generosity. If you would like to join Kathie in supporting the programs you love on WTIU, feel free to contact us to learn more at indianapublicmedia.org/support/tv/ or by calling (812) 855-2935.

Stories from the Transom WorkshopSunday, October 5, 12pm If you’ve ever had a “driveway moment”—one of those times when you couldn’t get out of your car until the end of an NPR report—or if you enjoy This American Life, you know the emotive power of documentary radio.

It’s that kind of compelling radio that you’ll hear in this special program of short documentaries produced in Bloomington at the Transom Traveling Workshop—a week-long audio storytelling intensive where three WFIU producers and seven attendees from across the country honed their radio production skills. In this program, you’ll hear the stories created by the participants during the week.

You’ll meet a restaurateur who’s passionate about water buffalo; a plumber who’s finally come to terms with the family business; a musical couple who find that musical metaphors work in the dynamic of their personal relationship; a video game designer who makes a breakthrough after his father’s death; and more. Expect the unexpected during this hour of engaging audio excursions.

Best of ProfilesSundays at noon

For WFIU’s annual Fund Drive (October 16–26), we’ve selected the most engrossing moments from Profiles interviews of the past year. The October 19 program will include excerpts from our interviews with National Book Award finalist Adrian Matejka, journalist and novelist David Ignatius, and Academy Award-winning actress Meryl Streep. The October 26 program will feature selected excerpts from interviews with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author Sonia Nazario, TIME magazine photographer Robert Nickelsberg, poet Ross Gay, and psychologist Gerd Gigerenzer.

Austin City Limits Celebrates 40 YearsFriday, October 3 at 9pm

Austin City Limits, the longest-running music series in American television history, marks its 40th anniversary with this star-studded special.

Guest hosted by Jeff Bridges, Matthew McConaughey, and Sheryl Crow, the two-hour broadcast features memorable moments from the show’s remarkable run.

A lineup of ACL royalty, including Lyle Lovett, Grupo Fantasma, Doyle Bramhall II, Alabama Shakes, Robert Randolph, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd return to the ACL stage to pay tribute to the show’s enduring legacy.

Highlights include the show opener as Bonnie Raitt, Alabama Shakes’ Brittany Howard, Jimmie Vaughan, and Gary Clark Jr. team up for the Sam & Dave classic “Wrap It Up.”

Dream duets and choice collaborations include ACL Hall of Fame legend Willie Nelson and Emmylou Harris on the Nelson-penned classic “Crazy” and Kris Kristofferson and Sheryl Crow’s

moving take on his signature “Me and Bobby McGee.”

The Foo Fighters serve up a wild rendition of Texas cult hero Roky Erickson’s “Two Headed Dog,” recorded at the show’s original television studio especially for the occasion. Local legends Joe Ely and Robert Earl Keen showcase their troubadour roots and significance to the Austin music scene. Blues titan Buddy Guy offers an electrifying version of “Mary Had A Little Lamb.”

And host Jeff Bridges performs the late singer-songwriter Stephen Bruton’s song “What A Little Bit of Love Can Do” as a tribute to the influential Austin musician who inspired Bridges’ Oscar-winning portrayal in Crazy Heart.
