A greater reason is that because we are attempting to make progress in our Call-to-Action plan, Wednesday night is a good opportunity to begin a ministry of Small Groups. Churches that are growing generally have a variety of small groups that give people an opportunity to find fellowship with other Christians and connect with a church in a setting other than worship. Though worship is our primary gathering time, in our day and culture, many people make their first connection to a church by way of a small group of some kind- a work group, service group, home Bible study, exercise group, recovery group, etc. I would like to see seven small groups on Wednesday nights (and seven more on Sunday nights), but we have to start somewhere, so this fall we are offering three small groups. Each of these is a place for you to invite a friend who may not be attending a church currently. Our menu of small groups for the current season is: 1. BOUNDARIES- A Small Group Study/Discussion for Young Adults. Boundaries impact all areas of our lives: Physical boundaries help us determine who may touch us and under what circumstances -- Mental boundaries give us the freedom to have our own thoughts and opinions -- Emotional boundaries help us to deal with our own emotions and disengage from the harmful, manipulative emotions of others -- Spiritual boundaries help us to distinguish God's will from our own and give us renewed awe for our Creator -- Often, Christians focus so much on being loving and unselfish that they forget their own limits and limitations. We will learn to set limits and be a loving person. Group meets in the Library. 2. WHEN GOD'S PEOPLE PRAY- A small group experience which will serve to encourage our church to be a house of prayer. In this study we learn truths from Pastor Jim Cymbala that transformed a tiny, struggling inner-city congregation into a vital, thriving community of believers who pray with passion, focus and faith. Group meets in the Small Fellowship Hall. 3. ADULT BIBLE STUDY-Group Meets in the Chapel. This group is still under construction, but more information will be coming. Right now, it looks as if Small Group nights will be on October 10 &24, November 28, and December 5 & 12. Youth and Children are rehearsing music at that time so there is a place for almost everyone. We have a long way to go, but this is a start. Your fellow servant in Christ, Pastor Stuart

Pastor’s Remarks

A WORD ABOUT WEDNESDAYS

Wednesday night is a great opportunity for fellowship together, so I hope you will consider being a part of this mid-week

time that we call Wonderful Wednesdays. Where else can you get a $5 meal that is a meal and not a burger and fries?

A greater reason is that because we are attempting to make progress in our Call-to-Action plan, Wednesday night is a

good opportunity to begin a ministry of Small Groups. Churches that are growing generally have a variety of small

groups that give people an opportunity to find fellowship with other Christians and connect with a church in a setting

other than worship. Though worship is our primary gathering time, in our day and culture, many people make their first

connection to a church by way of a small group of some kind- a work group, service group, home Bible study, exercise

group, recovery group, etc.

I would like to see seven small groups on Wednesday nights (and seven more on Sunday nights), but we have to start

somewhere, so this fall we are offering three small groups. Each of these is a place for you to invite a friend who may

not be attending a church currently. Our menu of small groups for the current season is:

1. BOUNDARIES- A Small Group Study/Discussion for Young Adults. Boundaries impact all areas of our lives:

Physical boundaries help us determine who may touch us and under what circumstances -- Mental boundaries give us the

freedom to have our own thoughts and opinions -- Emotional boundaries help us to deal with our own emotions and

disengage from the harmful, manipulative emotions of others -- Spiritual boundaries help us to distinguish God's will

from our own and give us renewed awe for our Creator -- Often, Christians focus so much on being loving and unselfish

that they forget their own limits and limitations. We will learn to set limits and be a loving person. Group meets in the

Library.

2. WHEN GOD'S PEOPLE PRAY- A small group experience which will serve to encourage our church to be a house

of prayer. In this study we learn truths from Pastor Jim Cymbala that transformed a tiny, struggling inner-city

congregation into a vital, thriving community of believers who pray with passion, focus and faith. Group meets in the

Small Fellowship Hall.

3. ADULT BIBLE STUDY-Group Meets in the Chapel. This group is still under construction, but more information

will be coming.

Right now, it looks as if Small Group nights will be on October 10 &24, November 28, and December 5 & 12. Youth

and Children are rehearsing music at that time so there is a place for almost everyone. We have a long way to go, but

this is a start.

Pastor Stuart

Pray For A Growing, Healthy Church

There are sixteen characteristics of a vital church.

Make these targets for your praying as you pray for our church:

1. More small groups for all ages

2. More programs for children

3. More programs for youth

4. Effective lay leadership

5. Lay leadership that exhibits vital personal faith

6. A rotation of lay leadership to involve more people over time.

7. 20% or more of the worshiping congregation are current or

past leaders in their church.

8. Pastors who develop and mentor lay leadership to equip them

to carry out ministry.

9. Pastors who enlist the participation of others in accomplishing

needed changes in the church.

10. Pastors who lead the congregation in setting and achieving

significant goals.

11. Pastors who are effective preachers.

12. Pastors who stay for a long time (when they are serving effec-

tively).

13. Worship services are a mix of traditional and contemporary.

14. Messages in worship are topical.

15. Use of contemporary music (not blended) in contemporary

services.

16. Use of multi-media in contemporary services.

We have heard of your

faith in Christ Jesus and

of the love that You have

for all the saints.

FINANCIAL UPDATE

As we enter the last quarter on 2012, we trust that generosity

will characterize our giving to God's work. As has been stated

in worship, giving to the church has not kept up with expendi-

tures and through the first eight months of the year, and we

have spent approximately $35,000.00 more than we have re-

ceived. Only the Federal government can operate that way,

but that way is not the way. Please be aware that we are not

overspending the approved church budget, but the necessary

revenue to support that budget has simply not come. Through

August, we have received $189,372.00. This compares with

$216,072.00 received in this same period in 2011. Because of

this shortfall, unfortunate measures have been put in place,

such as freezing all discretionary spending and freezing pay-

ments for our denominational obligations (apportionments).

There are some signs of improvement with giving in the third

quarter totaling almost $10,000 more than received in either

the first or second quarters. Generosity in your giving will

enable a positive cash flow, which will in turn enable catching

up on denominational obligations and pursuing financing for

the proposed elevator addition. If you are behind in what you

had planned to contribute this year, now is the time to catch

up. As always, remember the Biblical standard for giving is a

tithe (10% of income)- so prayerfully evaluate your giving and

consider where you might be generous.

-Pastor Stuart

then this will not be able to happen. We have been having

A UNIQUE NEED A person in our community needs a serviceable car in order to

get to her job. If you have a car you would be willing to donate

to the church as a tax deduction, we could make it available to

her at no charge. This is unique, but our Lord is able to meet

needs beyond what we ask or think. Contact the pastor for more

information.
