A MESSAGE FROMTHE PRESIDENTDear Member:

Thank you from the bottom of my heart! You just put on a really good show at Columbia Crest Winery and we got a lot ofcompliments about it. I can’t thank you enough, especially Claud Johnson and Charlie McNiven. Claud was the show co-chair and he also designed and built the first place trophies for the show, as well as the Best of Show trophy. Claud alsomade several other arrangements with the winery and the Best Western in Prosser. Charlie donated his time and supplies tomaking the trophies for second and third place, plus the famous wooden Mustang and Cougar ornaments that he allows theclub to sell for income. Beyond that, Charlie donated the Mustang lollipops that were for sale.

Several other people put a lot of effort into the show, too. Jeff Ziemer coordinated the T-shirt and dash plaque design andmanufacturing, which required a lot of back-and-forth with the supplier. Kim Ziemer kept track of the finances as we wentalong, and she took care of all the printing we needed. Grant Culley set up everything for the computer program, the mailinglist, and the papers we needed for parking and voting. Bennie and Elnora Hodges got the club’s equipment to the show in thetrailer, as well as helped publicize the event. Cheryl Ziemer made the contacts for publicity and with O’Callahan’s for thecatering. We haven’t even started planning next spring’s show, but Cheryl has already reserved Howard Amon Park for usand again contacted O’Callahan’s. Steve Wallner arranged the show car parking again. Ben Rasch arranged the trophies tobe handed out. Rich and Nan Kuchan were there to help with a little of everything, as were Alan Anderson, Chris Wollam,Vernon Richardson, Nolan and Maureen Woodard, and Corky Farrell. We had even more help from a lot of you on the dayof the show. Forgive me for not being able to mention even more names. All your help is appreciated and it really paid offfor us.

Other events have also been going on and will continue. We had plenty of volunteer convertibles for Prosser’s homecomingon September 24th. Jack Lippold believes we have enough convertibles for Kennewick High’s Homecoming on Wednesday, the 13th. We’ll be requesting volunteers at Tuesday’s meeting for the Southridge High Homecoming on October 22nd. As Iwrite this, we have just received a rush request for yet another Homecoming on October 15th; discussions regarding theschool’s needs and our abilities have just started.

The October meeting is next Tuesday, the 19th. We need to nominate candidates and elect officers for 2011 at this meeting. Please come prepared to vote and to volunteer, as we’ll also be approving those who run the shows. We have plenty ofother topics to discuss, too, if time permits. See you then.

PONIES AND COUGARS INTHE SUN

The PNWMC had a great showing in Yakima this year. All 5 of us in the voting field at the Sun Country Mustang Club’sannual show at Sarg Hubbard Park came home with a trophy. Gaylen Chilton won a 3rd place trophy with his blue 1966coupe. Jim Compton also won a 3rd place trophy with his maroon ’69 Cougar convertible. The PNWMC also broughthome 3 trophies for first in class. Steve Halterman won with his white ’77 Cobra II. Chris Wollam won with his pastelgray ’69 coupe. Claud Johnson won with his black ’08 Shelby GT 500. In addition to their trophies, Chris, Steve, andClaud also won bags of apples for finishing first in class.

My thanks to all the entrants who braved the wet weather forecast and the hard rain in the Tri-Cities on the morning ofthe show. The rain in Yakima started on Saturday evening, but quit by 6:00 Sunday morning. It did not resume beyond abrief sprinkle until just after the show ended. The bad weather forecast held down the attendance. About 85 cars wereon the grass and there were some really good cars in the field. A few more of our members had pre-registered, butchose not to attend for various good reasons once Show Day arrived. Charlie McNiven and Corky Farrell also stoppedin at the show, but did not enter Mustangs.

Sun Country gave out several other awards. Club Participation was won by Mustangs Northwest with 9 cars entered. The Best Mustang Award, chosen by representatives of all the car clubs present, went to Maggie Sebel and her BrittanyBlue ’67 GTA coupe. Best Cougar went to Jeff and Carol Bingaman for their Competition Green ’70 Eliminator clone. The Participants’ Choice Award went to Richard Rettig and his Calypso Coral ’70 Boss 302.

Next year’s show will be the 20th for Sun Country. Plan now to come up and help make this show a big success. Wemight be able to bring back the bushel of apples for the Club Participation award. You’ll enjoy the show and the weatherforecast for next year will be better.
