9:45 am - 10:30 amT9: ADVANCES IN ENERGY CURABLE PRINTING INKS FOR ALTERNATIVE ENERGY SOURCEGrant Shouldice, Flint GroupIn recent years, alternative sources of light energy have become a viable and economical technology for offset

printing processs. In order to maximize the full potential of this new equipment and the associated value

proposition, the industry needs to overcome certain technological barriers, such as lamp energy and the lack of

suitable photo initiators. It is now possible to optimize the chemistry and process in order to produce inks for

packaging and even low migration inks for primary food packaging using alternative energy sources. A review

of the advances associated with offset printing inks in this area is presented

T10: REGULATORY UPDATE FOR INK MANUFACTURERCheryl Falvey, Crowell & Moring LLPAn overview and updat on new, pending and existing regulations affecting the ink manufacturer including:

Toxic Substances Control Act Modernization, Solvent Wipes Rule, & Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act

10:30 am - 11:15 amT11: TiO2 Selection CriteriaBrett Beauregard, HuntsmanTitanium dioxide (Ti02) is a component of many printing inks and coatings. Selecting the appropriate Ti02 can

have a significant performance impact on the formulation. An understanding of the critically important tech-

nical characteristics of base pigment design and surface treatment properties will insure that you are using the

right Ti02 pigment.

T12: SUSTAINABILITY DRIVERSJeff Wooster, Dow Chemical CompanySustainability continues to grow in importance to companies, individuals, governments, and non-govern-

mental organizations. As more and more organizations establish formal sustainability goals and programs, it

is important for suppliers to understand the fundamental drivers that shape these programs and goals. As the

understanding of sustainability improves these programs and goals adapt to the new reality. The presentation

will review the newest developments in sustainability thinking and discuss how changes in thinking require

new actions by the value chain.
