Announcements Today

1. TONIGHT AY vespers 6 pm at St.Thomas SDA Church, located at 380 Manor Street, St. Thomas, come for spiritual reflection with youth, and fellowship games after.

Tomorrow

2. Pathfinders Club meeting is tomorrow, October 14 at 10 am. The club will be working on Nature learning, Trees honour. Club enrollment is open to all kids ages 10-16, and we have, for the first time all 6 classes for different age groups.

3. School of Evangelism class will take place at our church on October 14. Class time will begin at 10:00 am and will continue to 4:30. Lunch break from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. Classes will be taught by pastor James Rooney on Public presentations and witnessing, and Rodney Davis on preparation and use of Power Point.

4. Pastor Alex and Sandra Golovenko are away until October 15 conducting Evangelistic meetings in Minneapolis, MN. Keep them and family in your prayers.

5. Next Elders meeting will take place Monday, October 15 at 6:00 pm at the church.

6. Next Church Board meeting will take place Monday, October 15 at 7 pm at the fellowship hall. Please provide your agenda items to pastor Alex Golovenko, first elder Clara Baptiste or church Clerk Janice Brindley. Planning goals for 2013 and beyond will be on the agenda.

7. We started Dr. Neil Nedley's “Depression the Way Out” seminar with 15 people. Seminars are taking place in the evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. 8. All are invited! Sahel Crisis fundraiser. Sub-Saharan Africa ADRA project benefit is organized on October 20.

11AM: Elder Solomon Maphosa, the Executive Secretary of the South-African Division of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists is speaking at the Glen Cairn School located at 53 Frontenac Road, London, Ontario. Meeting will begin at 11 am. The music for the day will be ministered by the Toronto West Adventist Choir. It is our opportunity to invite friends, neighbours, community to share our hope in Second Coming of Christ, and share about the work of our church.

5:30 PM: ADRA benefit concert is hosted at the Glen Cairn School (53 Frontenac Road, London, Ontario). The concert will begin with Dimitar Kolev. After dinner singer, recording artist, ADRA ambassador, Naomi Striemer will share about ADRA Africa and do a live concert. Tickets

are $20 for adults. Children under 12 are $5. All the proceeds will go to ADRA Sahel project. Tickets could be purchased through Community Service department. Contact Teresa Ferreira. Collection will also be taken at the concert after presenting Sahel Crisis video.

9. The next general potluck will be on Sabbath, October 20th at the Glen Cairn School. Please bring an item from the section of the first letter of your last name. Feel free to bring additional items from any category. We do not have use of the kitchen at the school, so we will have a menu of: A-F soup, stew, chili or curry; G-I sandwiches, buns or bread; J-M cookies or any other dessert, N-R juice or drink; S-Z Salad/Raw vegetables, potato salad or pasta salad. Please bring hot items in a slow cooker. We are expecting over 160 guests that day, so please bring lots of extra food.

10. Next Sabbath School Rally will take place October 27 on the topic “What Salvation means” The Sabbath School Rally will begin at 9:30 am and the program will continue until 12:30 pm. There will be no preaching session. Ample opportunity would be given to all ages to participate and share in the Sabbath Bible Study experience.

11. Mark your calendars for October 27th for the second annual Hayseed Dinner and games fundraiser for our ACES church school. Don Topper, Jennifer Reid and George Perez will be selling advance tickets for the lasagna dinner for $5 each and games to follow. We had a great time at this event last year, please plan to attend for a wonderful evening of food and fellowship with our students and all the London church family. At Glen Cairn Elementary School, 53 Frontenac Rd, London.

12. November 3-10 Week of Prayer. All are invited to meet together at our church 7 pm.

13. We have rented The Boys and Girls Club for Sunday, November 11th from 5-7:30 pm. Please plan to join us for swimming, volleyball, floor hockey etc. $5 per person, $20 per family (maximum 6 people). Have some fun and exercise at the same time!

Today is the Spirit of Prophecy Sabbath Dear church family, greetings from Minneapolis were we are conducting

nightly meetings, well attended by interests facilitated by local churches. We miss our kids, and interactions with you.

First of all, today is the Spirit of Prophecy Sabbath, established in the late 1930s, when the Adventist world church’s Spirit of Prophecy Committee first called for an “earnest effort” to encourage increased study of White’s published writings. This whole month has an emphasis on the Adventist Heritage, and the next Sabbath commemorates the Great disappointment experience of 1844.

On this day it is important to remind ourselves that the description of our church used by our early Adventist pioneers was this: the Great Second Advent Movement. Our church is about being engaged and moving forward. Our faith isn’t something that stands still; we play an active role in transmitting it from generation to generation, we are not spectators. Take time this week to read up on church heritage, reflect on the work of Holy Spirit through Ellen G.White in our church, renew your reading of the Spirit of Prophecy books.

This weekend the leadership of our world-wide church is assembled for the annual meeting in Silver Springs, Maryland at the GC headquarters. Meetings began on the 11th and will continue until 15th. On the agenda are administrative restructuring in Europe, Africa and Middle East, and the matter of ordination and women in ministry. Pray for leadership to be guided by the Holy Spirit, to be obedient to the Spirit moving, to humbly abandon individual prejudices and preferences for the sake of seeking truth.

I would like to share a new discovery I made this week. Going through this week’s Sabbath School’s lesson I was impressed with an instruction in teacher’s supplement to invite the class to share about recent learning from the scripture. It is a good exercise for sharing a testimony of how the Holy Spirit impresses us daily with new truths.

I had learned also a new passage I never seen before. Dwight Nelson preached a sermon last Sabbath at PMC on a passage from Psalm 68:11. Popular King James version does not convey the original message. Other languages I know (Spanish, Ukrainian, Russian) all did fairly close rendering of the Hebrew text, yet I never paid attention to it. So here it is: “The Lord gives the command: The women who proclaim the good tidings are a great multitude.” From Hebrew text it sounds even more beautiful, “when God gives orders multitudes of women will take the Good News and proclaim it widely.”
