St. Francis Borgia grew up in an important family in 16th-century Spain, serving in the imperial court and quickly advancing in his career. But a series of events—including the death of his beloved wife—made Francis Borgia rethink his priorities. He gave up public life, gave away his possessions and joined the new and little-known Society of Jesus. Religious life proved to be the right choice. He felt drawn to spend time in seclusion and prayer, but his administrative talents also made him a natural for other tasks. He helped in the establishment of what is now the Gregorian University in Rome. Not long after his ordination he served as political and spiritual adviser to the emperor. In Spain, he founded a dozen colleges. At 55, Francis was elected head of the Jesuits. He focused on the growth of the Society of Jesus, the spiritual preparation of its new members and spreading the faith in many parts of Europe. He was responsible for the founding of Jesuit missions in Florida, Mexico and Peru. Francis Borgia is often regarded as the second founder of the Jesuits. He died in 1572 and was canonized 100 years later. From the Pastor’s Desk… Dear Parishioners, This is the third Parish Feast we celebrate together here at St. Francis Borgia Parish. I want to congratulate you and wish you a happy Feast day. We pray today, thanking God for our ancestors, who gave us this beautiful church, and for former priests, deacons, and sisters who served our parish, and for the principals and teachers who taught in our school. We thank you all for your great love and support you show for our parish. In a special way I want to thank you for your generous commitments to the campaign TO TEACH WHO CHRIST IS. Your commitment is the most beautiful gift for the parish on its Feast Day. Every year during this holiday, we thank everyone who supports our church through prayer and offerings, and especially we thank those who sacrifice their time serving us through membership of different ministries in the parish. We ask for volunteers, for new Lectors, Eucharistic ministers, participants in different prayer groups and ministries: Catholic Women’s Club; Golden Club; Parish Welcoming Ministry; Peace Prayer Service; Divine Mercy Chaplet; Society for Social Concern; Sacred Heart Prayer Group; Respect Life Group; Padre Pio Groups; Bereavement Ministry; School Parents Association; School Advisory Board; Knights of Columbus; Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers; Religious Education; RCIA; Crafters; Choir members; Greeters; Ushers; Marian Movement of Priests; Scouting; Italian Catholic Federation; and Our Lady of Czestochowa etc. We can follow a beautiful example of many boys and girls who volunteered recently to be altar servers. Your willingness to be active members of our parish family would be a beautiful gift on the Parish Feast. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ This form may be dropped in the collection basket, given to the rectory or Parish Council Member if you are interested

Respect Life "We need to continue to teach clearly and help other Catholic leaders to teach clearly on our unequivocal commitment to the legal protection of human life from the moment of conception until natural death. Our teaching on human life and dignity should be reflected in our parishes and our educational, health care and human service ministries. We need to do more to persuade all people that human life is precious and human dignity must be defended. This requires more effective dialogue and engagement with all public officials, especially Catholic public officials. We welcome conversation initiated by political leaders themselves.” - US Catholic Bishops, June 18, 2004

Dear Friend in Christ, Our parish has been on the ToTeachWhoChristIsCampaign journey for several weeks now. We have been asking the question, “What does St. Francis Borgia mean to us?” If our parish family is im-portant to you and means something to you, then now is the time to support it and the life-changing work it does in our community. I am encouraging participation of each and every household. God has blessed all of us and all of us will bene it from this campaign’s efforts. Our success is going to depend on the participation of us all! Our parents and grandparents built these beautiful churches and schools and ministries in our diocese. And they were able to do so with far, far less than we have --- because they sacri iced! Let us stir up our faith and let us give in a way that would make them proud. Through our ToTeachWhoChristIs Campaign, let us continue to build God’s Kingdom in our corner of the world. We thank those who already made their commitments to our Campaign and we remind others that they can make their pledges at any time. The success of our Campaign depends on the participation of us all. So far we received 530 pledges out of 2500 attending Masses every weekend. Yours in Christ,

Rev. Richard Milek
