GOOD NEWS
Our next Super Sunday is less than two weeks away! On Sunday, October 23, Brother Jeremy Hall will be coming to preach for us here at Jefferson Avenue. Jeremy Hall is a bright young man and a gifted communicator. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Freed-Hardeman University and is currently preaching for the Millview Church of Christ in Franklin, Tennessee. Invite your friends and family to be a part of this special day!
OCTOBER IS BUSY
We have several church events scheduled for the month of Octo-ber.
This Friday, October 14, the Young At Heart will be having their annual fall cookout at the Ogden Center at Happy Haven.
On Saturday, October 15, Doug and Mae Fowler have invited the congregation to come out to their farm for an evening of food and fun.
Sunday, October 23, will be our next Super Sunday here at Jeffer-son Avenue with a potluck meal following the morning worship ser-vice.
On Saturday, October 29, our young people will be coming to our campus for Trunk-or-Treat. It is good to be a part of a busy church! All of these activities are designed for fellowship and to build relationships in our congrega-tion. There is something for everyone at Jefferson Avenue!
IN LOVING MEMORY
Our dear sister in Christ, Maggie Brown, has gone to be with the Lord. Maggie was a good Christian woman who loved the Lord and loved His church. She also loved her husband and her children and her grandchil-dren. Maggie was a faithful member of this congregation for many years. Even when she could no longer attend worship, she was with us in spirit. She has fought the good fight, she has finished the race, she has kept the faith. We look forward to seeing her again in heaven!

Hebrews 2:10-11
For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering. For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers… When I seek to find my self worth in people, I will con-tinually be let down and continue to feel empty. The relationships I have with those people who I seek my self worth in will be meaningless as well. Let me give you a couple of observations I have from the text:
God created all things, yet still counts me worthy to have a relationship with. My relationship with the Lord affects all other relationships that I have here on earth. When I find my self worth in the fact that Jesus died for me and wants me to live for him, that changes things. I no longer need to rely on someone else to give me worth, the Lord has already done that. That takes the burden off of me to find it from someone, and takes the burden off of someone else to try to provide something that they never could in the first place! I can begin to val-ue other people, not for what they can do for me or how they can make me feel, but for what they mean to the Lord. And they mean something special!
I can find my purpose, my true purpose, in a life spent pursuing the Lord. When searching for our purpose in other people, we will always come up feeling empty. If I look to myself or someone else to give me direction in life, I may feel like I’m on the right path for a little bit, but I will eventually find out that I’m pretty lost. The Lord is able to sanctify you. That is, he’s able to set you apart for his holy purpose. He can give you real direction that no one else can.
When I seek my worth and purpose out of relationships with other people, I’m setting myself and the other person up for failure. I’m asking them to do something that they are not equipped to do, and I’m putting the burden on my-self to find something looking in the wrong place. The gospel within this context in this passage is this: Jesus provides all of that for us. He provides my worth and direction. I will find it nowhere else.
