ASSOPICON 2016 etc.

At the same time, there is change of guard at the

University and College. Acting Vice-Chancellor,

Department of Physiology, BLDE University, Shri B. M. Patil Medical College, Hospital and

Research Centre, Vijayapura organized 3rd Annual Conference of Association of Physiologists

of India during 14th-17th September-2016 in Central Library Auditorium with theme “Physiology

Decodes Novelty of Vascular Sciences” 14th Sept-2016 (Wednesday), one full day was totally

dedicated to Undergraduate students of health sciences as “Student ASSOPICON 2016, attended

by more than 300 UG Students from all over the country of various disciplines like medicine,

Conference had dedicated entire one day for UG students. The students participated in the meeting

presented), Joined in panel discussions with international medical professor and participated

in research methodology workshop. Sessions of free paper presentations were chaired by Post

Graduate students. The students were given awards for best paper and poster presentations.

Prof. H. A. Ranganath, Former NAAC Director, Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University, Professor

at IISC, Bangalore and renowned molecular biologist was the chief guest of student ASSOPICON.

In his speech, he stressed on importance of research curriculum in UG programme in India. He

also stressed the need on multidisciplinary approach in each area of higher science learning that to

be incorporated from UG courses itself. Prof Soumyodipta Pyne from PHFI and remote Professor

at Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard University, USA (Guest of Honuor) in his keynote address

narrated regarding medical research programme in western universities for students and its impact

Secretary were present during this student conference. The student conference was concluded by

valedictory function in the evening hours. Pre conference workshop on “Writing a research paper

for publication in PUBMED journal” was held for registered delegates in the afternoon of 14th

September-2016. JIPMER team led by Dr. G. K. Pal conducted this programme in A S Paintal

Hall of Department of Physiology. On second day, 15th September-2016 (Thursday), Conference

was inaugurated by Chief guest, Dr. Shashi Bala Singh, Director, DIPAS/ DRDO, New Delhi. In

her inaugural speech following release of souvenir and CD Containing proceeding, She stressed

India. She pointed out that Research done Physiology will have a bearing on all other branches of

Medical Sciences. She lamented that there are no specialized laboratories for conducting research

establishing such laboratories that would help in researchers to undertake studies. She revealed

that translational Physiology that in vogue in foreign countries since 2002, has not yet come to

India. She exhorted Medical fraternity to join Indian Army, so that they could serve the nation

along with serving the ill.

The main Conference from 15th-17th September-2016 was attended by 400 delegates from all over

India and also from U.S.A., Nepal etc.

A few illustrious speakers were namely : Prof. M Fahim, Univ. of Delhi; Prof. S Pyne, Harvard

University, USA ; Prof. G. K. Pal, JIMER, Puducherry ; Prof. S. B. Deshpande, BHU, Varanasi

; Prof. antony Gromes, University of Calcultta; Prof Sathya Subramani, CMC, Vellore ; Prof.

R. K.Yadav, AIIMS, Delhi ; Prof. D. Chakraborti, IIT, Guwahati, Prof. Latika Mohan, AIIMS,

Rishikesh and many more.

The Conference had 4 Key Note speakers, 7 Plenary Speakers and 35 other invited speakers. The

conference also had 7 symposia that included Medical Education, Vascular Science, Neuroscience,

Nanoscience, Yoga and Exercise, Ergonomics, Design and Environment. Six research oration

awardees 2016 of Association of Physiologists of India also delivered their lecture in the

conference.110 free research papers were presented as oral and poster by Physiologists. Awards

were given to best oral and poster presenters also. The conference was concluded by valedictory

function on 17th September-2016 afternoon.

Apart from BLDE University, entire conference was supported by ICMR, DST, and DRDO

Conference was endorsed by IUPS, UGC, NAAC and MCI.

KMC awarded 2 credit hours to pre conference workshop and 4 credit hours to conference. The

exchange programmes with Universities and Organizations of International Repute.

Dr. Shekar H. P., Chief Librarian of the Central Library received Govt. of Karnataka award

“Granthalaya Seva Puraskar” at Bengaluru, on August 12, 2016.

Dr. Ciju K. George, P.G. Student in ENT Department of BLDE University’s Shri BM Patil Medical

College, Vijayapura won First Prize in the National Quiz Competition, held in the National Conference

of Indian Academy of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck, at Kolkota, from August 26 to 27, 2016.

Dr. Kshitiz Ranka, PG student, Department of Urology was receiving the 1st Prize in Multiple Choice

Quiz Competition “Devon Travelling Fellowship” by the Karnataka Urology Association, at Blu

Radisson Hotel, Goa, held from September 29 to October 2, 2016.

BLDE University signed a Memorandum Of Understanding

With RNTCP, Karnataka State T.B. Division, Bengaluru

Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme, Karnataka State T.B. Division, Bangaluru

and BLDE University, Vijayapura entered into a MoU on July 16, 2016. The MoU was signed by

Faculty of Medicine & Principal BLDE University, Vijayapura. The MoU is signed to control/test/

treat Tuberculosis for a period of three years.

NSS Activities

“NSS Foundation Day” was celebrated in BLDE University on September 24, 2016, by conducting

rally from Gandhi Chowk to Bangaramma Sajjan Campus. Rally was inaugurated watering the plant

by Dr. M. B. Dilshad and Flag hoisting was done by Prof. B. G. Mulimani, Chief Administrarive

regarding NSS to the volunteers and Prof. B. G. Mulimani also addressed to the gathering.

Essay Writing Competition

Essay Writing Competition “Freedom Fortnight” was conducted by Literary Committee on August

20, 2016. V. Giridhar and Ch. Ramyakrishna were 1st and 2nd Prize won respectively.

BLDE University organized Mass Singing of the National Anthem at 11 a.m. on August 23, 2016,

followed a direction of the University Grants Commission and the Ministry of Human Resource

Development. The event marked the end of the fortnight-long Independence Day celebrations.

Dr.J.G. Ambekar, Registrar, Dr. S. P. Guggarigoudar, Dean, Faculty of Medicine & Principal, Dr.

V. T. Kalyanappagol, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Lata Mullur, Vice-Chairman, Dr. Udaykumar

Nuchhi, Secretary, Cultural Committee, Student Representatives and faculty members were also

present.

The Institutional Annual cultural fest was celebrated from 19th Sept to 24th Sept 2016.

First three day the events were conducted and organized by the Cultural Committee members after

5.00pm.

total participants in this events were 10 teams it consists of 3 members from each team, the time

limitation for this event is 1 ½ hours i.e. from 5-30 to 7.00pm. All the students from their respective

were participated and enjoyed.

20th evening event started at 5.30pm to 7.30pm this event was the most wonderful event of our

Cultural Fest-2016 around 10 to 12 teams were participated again the time limitation for this event

is 1 ½ hours, Jury members were more curious to see all the Clay Modeling from the participants.

21st evening 5.30pm to 9.00pm, First we had an inauguration of our Cultural Fest in traditional

way, all the students from there respective batches were gathered and we inaugurated our fest in

a different manner by leaving Air balloons and with the musical instruments like (banzoo) and

of our University & Association, Staff Members and all the Committee Members of the Cultural

Committee were participated. After this we moved towards the auditorium for the next event i.e.

Movie Making and Comedy Act.

22nd morning at 10.30am Singing Competition was started, students compared for Solo Singing,

Western Singing, Group Singing. In the evening at 5.30pm, we had Dance Competition with Solo

and Group Dancing Performances.

23rd morning 10.30am, started with Bride and Groom Competition this was the most innovative

and traditional way, the students have participated. All the students and staff members were

appreciated and enjoyed this bride and groom competition.

Evening 5.30pm, in the evening we had fashion show competition by each batch with various

themes.’

Guest of our function. Guest of Honour, Dr.M.S.Biradar, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Dr.J.G.Ambekar,

Registrar, Dr.Vijaykumar Kalyanappagol, Medical Superintendent, Dr.S.P.Guggarigoudar, Dean,

Faculty of Medicine & Principal, presided over the function, Dr.Latha Mullur welcomed the

gathering, Dr.Shivaleela Devarmani, introduced the Chief Guest, Dr.Roopa Shahapur introduced

our Principal and Dr.Anita Javalagi introduced our Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Dr.M.S.Biradar, and

winners of the Cultural Fest Exergy-2k16 was announced by Dr.U.C.Nuchhi, Secretary Cultural

students, Jury and Cultural Committee Members. Dr.Chandrika Doddhihal conveyed the vote of

thanks and the master of ceremony by Mr.Shivu Bidari and Miss. Yojana Goyal.

Evening DJ Night and Funfair after 6.00pm to 10.30pm, this time all UG & PG students were

enjoyed and participated for the Exergy-2k16. Apart from the DJ Nights students and all the staff

This year’s Cultural Fest Exergy-2k16 was the most wonderful experience in BLDE University a

great success and joyful event and memorable event of the year. Cultural Committee is thankful

to our Administrators, Faculty and Students who were part of this and made it a memorable event.

Student Writes…

MED school, the thought had always made me have multiple emotions. The thrill of being a part

of it and also fear of surviving it.

Perhaps, after joining Shri B. M. Patil Medical College, I realized that all my fears were vague.

Only after being a part of this Institute, I released why it has reached such heights.

As the saying goes ‘The value of the place is measured by the kind of people working there’, our

professors, our entire staff folks have an extraordinary depth of commitment, their passion for their

work, their willingness to embrace our new ideas, their determination to overcome any obstacle

hindering our progress as that of the institute is truly outstanding.

Their support and love is such a homely feeling. The infrastructural and learning facilities, we

have are no less than any top colleges in India.

Not to forget, the green of campus and stone building are charming and it is such a great place to

relax and study. Talking about opportunities, we have plenty in research works, projects, seminars,

co-curricular like sports, literary and cultural events and the list goes on.

Today, I am extremely happy to say I am student of such marvellous institute. I feel safe in my

career and future.

Tomorrow, this institute will be part of everything I shall achieve and I shall always try to make

the institute proud of me.
