NORTH VALLEY ADVENTIST NEW

Dear Church Family,

After a lot of hard work I have finally completed my bachelor’s degree. I have already begun working on a Master’s degree through Andrew’s University. I am very excited about the thoughts of completing my edu-cation and continuing to grow as your pastor. Pursuing education is very biblical as long as we never forget the source of all wisdom. Prov-

erbs 9:10 says,“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,

and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”

There have been times when I had a lot of things to do and I felt tempted to plunge right in an start working but I always reminded my-self that God has to come first. When I put that policy into practice it seems like everything else goes much better than when I convince myself to put God off till a more convenient time.

How about you, are you allowing God to speak to you everyday through His Word? Ellen White says that even one verse correctly un-derstood will profit us more than speed reading through a whole chap-ter. I know that sometimes we don’t feel like taking time out for God because we are tired or in a hurry but don’t make that mistake. Plan a few minutes every morning to pray and read God’s Word. Keep doing that daily until it becomes a habit.

Our lives can never be changed if we do not spend adequate time with our Saviour. The Bible says that by beholding we become changed. Let’s behold Him everyday and receive His life changing power.

A Fellow Disciple,

What should our passion be?

Matthew 28:18-20 (New King James Version) 18

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.

19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father

and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20

teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Praise the Lord!!! The Tree of Life currently sits in our foyer with out leaves, and with flowers.

The flowers represents the people who are actively taking the studies, our next step is to add fruit on

the tree, this is when the people accept the Sabbath and start coming to church. Many people have

stepped up and committed to take bible studies to the people that have asked for them. Thank you

so much for all of your service to the Lord. Let’s keep praying for each student and our members

who are committed to reaching the community.

We Should Do All We Can To Reach The Lost

Health Move More

Try to make it a daily challenge to find ways to move your body. Take the stairs rather than the escalator or elevator, walk your dog, chase your kids, mow the lawn, or take a walk. Anything that moves your limbs is not only a fitness tool, it reduces stress. Think “move” in small increments of time. It doesn't have to be an hour in the gym or a 45-minute aerobics class. That's great when you're up to it. When you’re not, just move more. By: Erin Criss

Forty percent of America's food dollars are spent eating out.

10-15 percent of Americans died from coronary heart disease and strokes. Today it's around 40 percent. Back then, less than 6 percent died of cancer, while today the figure is approaching 26 percent. Carrot anybody??????

Parenting

How Parents May Build Strong Characters

Gain and Understanding of Principles Involved,

The lessons learned, the habits formed, during the years of infancy and childhood

have more to do with the formation of the character and the direction of the life than

have all the instruction and training of after years. Parents need to consider this.

They should understand the principles that underlie the care and training of children.

They should be capable of rearing them in physical, mental, and moral health. (More to come in the

next newsletter, keep an eye out for it.)

SDA Preparatory School Roanoke Adventist Preparatory School students have been working very hard as a team for Christ

this year. Students have been learning about the fruits of the Spirit and working on showing these characteristics to others in our school, churches, and communities. The memory verse that we are

focusing on at this time is Galatians 5:22-23, "The Spirit gives us love, joy, peace, patience, kind-

ness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." During the week of September 21-25 students completed the ITBS standardized test. Students had their first field trip to the Blue Ridge

Library and received many compliments for their excellent behavior! If you would like to help drive for a field trip, please feel free to contact Mrs. Melius at 540-977-0346. RAPS students and staff greatly appreciate all

your support and willingness to help out with our school store for rewarding students for great behavior. Please con-sider purchasing some items for the school store, you can give the to Ginger Turner. Thanks for all you do to help our

school become a success! Mrs. Melius

Adopt-A-Cop Program We had a dinner for the cops and dispatchers, 30 to 40 of them came and enjoyed the dinner and baked goods. Keep praying for them

each month and consider serving them on the next dinner.

Recipe Of The Month Cooking with Christina Ford

Unbeef Stew

1 pound extra firm regular tofu - 1 large onion chopped - 1 quart vegetable broth

5 Tbs Worcestershire sauce - 1 Tbs tamari - 2 cloves garlic finely chopped

4 of each large carrots and large potatoes peeled and coarsely chopped

1 tomato seeded and diced - 2 tsp salt - 1 tsp pepper - 1 tsp basil - 3 Tbs butter

5 Tbs cornstarch mixed with water until no longer lumpy

Freeze the tofu and then let it thaw completely. Drain the water from the tofu, and cut into slices and squeeze more water out. Then cut the slices into chunks and bake at 200 degrees on a ungreased cookies sheet while chopping the rest

of the ingredients (check the tofu about every 10-15 minutes so that it doesn't get browned - it should just be dried out, not burned). The tofu should be well dried out, like croutons. Place all of the prepared ingredients into a crock-pot, stir well, and

cook on high for at least 6-8 hours, stirring occasionally. The stew is ready when it is thick and brown. It makes a lot!

Serves 8 for ingredients use vegan versions of products named.

Small Groups Our church is working toward having small groups. The congregation was asked if they would par-ticipate in being in a small group and there were a lot of people who said yes. We look forward to getting them started.

Sabbath School Studying the Book of Numbers

The adult Sabbath School lesson for the fourth quarter ( October - December ) will be studying the book of Numbers. It covers Israel leaving Egypt to the Jordan River and their receiving the location of the Cities of Refuge. The author of the lessons was Frank Holbrook. He died about four years ago. He and John W. McGraw were classmates in college. They conducted an evangelistic series together. Elder McGraw conducted his funeral. Enjoy the lessons.

You’re special Read genesis 1:26-27

Each person is unique on the outside. You may not like something about the way you look just know. But look inside. God made people in his image. Inside, we look like God. He gave us bright minds. He gave us a sense of humor. Look inside, and you can feel very special indeed.

Update on Faith Abigail Renee Shelor:

Faith Abigail Renee Shelor was born on September 19, 2009 at 1:21PM. She weighed 7lbs. and almost 1oz. Beth had to undergo a C-Section in the hospital. Beth and the baby are doing fine. Momma Beth and Daddy Justin stayed from Saturday till Tuesday late morning with Faith in the hospital. Beth is recovering fine. We are learning as we go. We are new challenged parents. Beth sees it as a new adventure being that it is different having your own baby than babysitting somebody elses baby or kid. Justin is taking care of Beth and the baby during Beth's recovery. We are thrilled about our new baby Faith and look forward to life ahead with her.
