WELCOME LETTER FROM D IRECTOR

CTE STAFF

WOW, it is hard

to believe that another

year has begun and that

we are almost at the

close of the first six

weeks. As I make my

rounds it is truly reward-

ing to see our students

engaged in authentic

instruction. I am also

extremely proud of the

fact that the department

has embraced those

practices that insure stu-

dent academic success.

We have had various

challenges these past

few years, but like our

students, we need to

take ownership in learn-

ing new things and im-

proving ourselves.

President Obama

in his speech to students

validated what CTE can

be for all students. He

voiced how many of us

face daily challenges

and for that reason we

have to strive to allow

education to be that ve-

hicle for success. This

year we will see our first

large group of students

graduating already certi-

fied in Nursing Assis-

tance and/or Medical

Office Assistance. This

year we will see the addi-

tion of certification in

not only Health Science,

but in Human Services,

Business, Engineering

and Industrial Sciences.

Please continue to be

that light in the lives of

our students. Together,

we have the opportunity

not only to make stu-

dents successful, but to

have our community

prosper.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

1. Please register on the ERO prior to attending these sessions at least three days in advance. We need to prepare for some

of these trainings and need to know how many teachers to expect.

2. Please bring your laptop to all trainings.

3. Microsoft Office 07 Certification Prep sessions are test prep and practice exam sessions, the MCAS Certification Testing

are for testing only. You may however take the test on the day of the Prep if you feel you are ready.

4. Additional trainings are available upon request at your campus during your planning period.

WORK ORDER P ROCEDURES STEP 1 Trouble-shoot the problem: Make sure all connections are properly and securely

connected. Completely shutdown and restart.

STEP 2 Report the problem: Report the problem to your Master Teacher. If other teachers have

had the same problem, the Master Teacher may know of a solution or

how it was resolved.

STEP 3 Create a work order: The Master Teacher emails Griselda Lozano @

[email protected] and CC the teacher with the work order

request. Mrs. Lozano will reply with a work order number.

Emailing or calling Agustin directly will delay the work order. He has been directed to only work on problems for which a

work order has been created. When Agustin works on problems with no work order there is no documentation for his time

and this is detrimental to Agustin so please follow procedure as he will still have to email Griselda to create the work order , in

turn Griselda will email the Master Teacher first to see if he/she is aware of the problem, when Griselda gets a response a

work order will then be created. Agustin will be sorting the work orders in order of priority, order it came in by campus. We

only have one Tech for the whole LISD CTE department. Keep in mind that entails 4 Middle Schools and 3 High Schools so

your patience is greatly appreciated. Agustin is working as diligently as he possibly can.

CAMPUS INITIATIVES LISD has several campus initiative programs available for the teachers to use: They are accessible by clicking on the esystems

link on your school homepage.

Most commonly used:

Webcenter Attendance & Substitutes Management System—Call in an absence

Schoolmax Enterprise—Gradebook

Portal/Employee Profile—certifications , check history, leave, w2 etc.

DDA—Distict Data Analyzer—Student Data reports and TAKS scores

Workflow Application—Teacher/Student Travel Requests and Bid Item Requests

Reconciliation forms and travel policies can be found at

http://www.laredoisd.org/departments/finance/fogfy0708.htm

eConnect—Gradebook support and request forgot password

ERO—Electronic Registrar Online used to register for trainings.

Please see your campus trainer for initial information. John Hill or Griselda Lozano will also be happy to assist you in the use

of any of these programs.

Visions

Thanks to the Vision Software recently installed at Memorial Middle

School, Mr. Efrain Garza is now easily able to keep his students focus on

the lesson at hand. Currently , Visions is installed at the three High

Schools and at Memorial Middle School. The purchase for the remain-

ing campuses is pending. It has been a success with the teachers. The y

are better able to monitor the students progress and keep the students

attention. The software also includes a feature where the teacher is able

to control which sites the students visit.
