Tip #1: Begin each email with agreeting. No matter how pressedfor time you are, a simple greetingsuch as “Hi,” “Hello,” or “Dear X”is good etiquette. Otherwise, ifyou launch into your emailwithout a greeting or introductionyou risk being perceived asimpolite or impatient.
Tip #2: Take the time to ensureyour subject line accuratelyreflects the contents and natureof your email. This will go a longway to ensure that your email getsthe attention and consideration itdeserves.
Tip #3: Be as concise aspossible. Your recipients willappreciate it if you keep your
email brief, and to the point, andyou’ll also increase your chancesof getting a timely reply.
Tip #4: Ask permission beforeforwarding another person’semail correspondence. Even ifyou’re confident the other personwouldn’t mind if you forward theiremail to someone else, it’s properetiquette to check first, so youdon’t risk violating their trust.
Tip #5: Reply to emails in atimely fashion. If you know inadvance you can’t give an emailthe attention it deserves, at themoment, give the sender a quickheads-up that you have receivedtheir email but haven’t had timeto review it yet.
Tip #6: Send personal emailsfrom your non-work account.Sending personal emails fromwork is generally “frowned upon”in business, but occasionally we allneed to send a personal emailduring working hours. In thisinstance, use a web-based emailaccount such as Yahoo or Hotmail.
Tip #7: Remember that yourbusiness email, both the address
and all correspondence, is theproperty of the company youwork for. Anything you’ve eversent or received–even if you’vedeleted it–could potentially beretrieved from the system by adatabase administrator at anytime.
Tip #8: Use the blind carboncopy (BCC) function when yousend a bulk email. Some peopleconsider having their emailaddress exposed to a long list ofstrangers an invasion of privacy.
Tip #9: Always proofread emailbefore sending! Check forspelling, edit awkward sentencesand soften message tone. Deleteunnecessary text (previous strings,if replying to an email) unless theyare relevant to the conversation.
Tip #10: Wait until after you’veproofread your message to enterin email addresses. Hitting the“send” button at the wrongmoment can be bothembarrassing and disastrous!!

Like anything else in business, your email writing style, &messaging is a reflection of your personal brand. It only takesa few extra minutes to thoroughly proofread an email. Thatis time well spent. Careless emails can severely damagerelationships, ruin reputations and even jeopardize careers.
In the business world, emailleaves an electronic paper trail, which is important. Some of its
positive uses are:• Informational Messages
• Announcements • Delivering and Collaborating
with business documents • Company Policy Statements • Quick Responses to Simple
Questions
Where some people seem tostruggle is when they use email
to deliver complex, emotionalor controversial messaging.
Unfortunately, since there isn’ta warm voice accompanying
the message, or a handshakesealing a deal, email messaging
can easily be misinterpreted, leading to sometimes painful
consequences, for both thesender and the receiver

Tell us about FMCG's latestinitiative the "People ForTomorrow" Programme. Howwas it born?At FMCG when we say tomorrow,we are looking into the future. Weconsider tomorrow as 10 yearsfrom now. Like say 2022. So webrain stormed at an offsitemeeting held at The Torch hotel -50 FMCG managers were there. Atthat gathering we were all inagreement that - businessenvironment will change in 10years. We will be called to dobusiness differently with ourclients and principals - the trade, support functions with internaloperations will change. In facteven our customers will change.
Technology will be different. So inthis new environment, we facedthe fact that we will need peoplewith a different set of skills andcompetencies. We accepted andadmitted that the people of todaywill likely be unable to cope. Thatwas our starting point. We had astrong desire that said "If the
environment changes, let's makesure the people we have will alsobe able to adapt, and becomeeffective in handling that newenvironment. We want to makesure that our people are ready fortomorrow" That's how our Peoplefor Tomorrow program was born.
What are the objectivesbehind it?The beauty of the objectives lies inthe fact that this program is notabout a new structure or aboutnew policies or procedures. Thisprogram is about our people. Ourobjective is developing our people.Making them equipped, capableand ready for tomorrow. Investingin our people - without borders,

delighted to bring
you an interview
with the head of
our FMCG Sector,
Nabil Mourad.
FMCG has a
reputation for
launching
innovative
programmes and
in this edition
Nabil gives us a
glimpse of People
For Tomorrow,
FMCG's latest and
most innovative
project yet.
Interview without limits. It will extend froma GM level and go lower to thelowest ranks reaching, lets saysomeone who does a very smalljob. Our focus includes every one.So we are talking about adevelopment objective thatspreads through 10 differentlayers. In FMCG we are talkingabout 15 job categories.
How many people will bereached by the programme? The total staff of the FMCG is 800people. This number grows around10% every year and I can saywithout hesitation the programwill reach every single one ofthem.
What does People forTomorrow consists of? Arethere phases of theprogramme?
The process will start with anassessment. That's a step whereour people's current competenciesand capabilities will be assessed. That step is already in progress. We have assigned one GM tohandle each step of our four stepprocess. We have developed thetools to assess every employee byjob category. So every job has itsown set of skills andcompetencies. At this stage wewill also assess the needs ouremployees have. Simultaneouslywe will develop a picture whereeach employee will be placed on asort of a format that will showwhere our 800 people are. Atwhat level are they performing? This placement will easily show usthe top performers and poorperformers. And all the people inbetween.
Second step is identifyingtraining needs. These trainingneeds will have one goal: to equipthe employee to advance. The topperformers will also be given moreof a chance to progress. It’s aprocess of placing the right peopleat the right position and highlightthe extremely poor performers. Sothat's step two. Once we havedone that we go into learningand development which is amega project. This is to train anddevelop the 800. The training can
go from classroom to one on onecoaching. As I said this will effectand reach everyone in theorganization. In addition to thatwe are going to develop a set oftools to be able to evaluate peopleproperly and have feedback onhow people are progressing. Stepnumber four is which will run inparallel to all steps is the rightcompensation, benefits, motivation, people retention
and talent acquisition. At thehighest we have a program calledthe Star programme whichidentifies the stars on board whowill truly become the leaders oftomorrow.
Is there any time limit forthis program? There are certain parts of theproject which are now in progresslike the people assessments.Certain parts will finish in 2013.But as is to be expected someprograms will be ongoing. Like thetraining and development aspect. We cannot say we have trainedand developed all our people. Sotraining and development is ongoing. It is worth mentioning thatthe Operating Board has decidedto pilot this programme in FMCGand after that roll it out to the restof the Ali Bin Ali Group.
Will it reach all theemployees?Yes. I will give an example. Let'sstart with an example of juniorpeople. We have at least 150merchandisers in FMCG and wehave another 150 van salesmen. We have special programs formerchandisers, for training anddevelopment and special programs for van salesman. We will not putall the trainees in one room and in
one category because we havepeople with different needs. Wewill have dedicated trainingprograms for every job category.
So can we can tell everysingle FMCG employee thattheir turn will come?Yes we can do that 100%. Its notlike any project that is merely onpaper. The entire seniormanagement team of FMCG is allinvolved in this programme. Wehave a responsibility because -we know this will be rolled out tothe rest of the Group. So aspioneers we have to make surethat it works effectively.
Why now?Well as a matter of fact I think weare late in starting such aninitiative. We waited because weneeded certain ground realities tobe in place. Even to start an effortlike this you need the retention ofthe right people. We had to be in aposition to retain talent and attract
good talent from outside theorganization. I believe that if youdon't have the proper composition& benefits in place efforts such asthese will not be successful. Sothough my idea was there for acouple of years I had to wait.
What is the message youwould like to give the wholeGroup? In addition of setting an objectiveto train everybody, I want ABA
employees to really feel and Imean really feel that they areworking for the best company inQatar or possibly in the Gulf. This isvery important. We are not thereyet but we want all our employeesto say "we are very proud andhappy to be working for Ali Bin AliGroup."
“...we want all ouremployees to say:
we are very proud andhappy to be working for
Ali Bin Ali Group.”
“This program is foreveryone. It will reach
and develop every singleemployee.” FMCG has
80 principals.
FMCG has 16 sales divisions, each with its own
managementstructure.
FMCG has 800 employees.
FMCG’s portfolio is7000 products.
Every year, FMCGsells 9 million
cases of products.
FMCG has 300 +major brands

MissingNumber
In today’s world, wemust have heard theterms setting goals andrealizing your dreamsinnumerable times inprofessional andpersonal fronts. In thename of training, seminars, conferences, this topic is widelydiscussed and presentedin an interesting mannerby various renownedspeakers.
But how far, do people in generalapply this in their life? I have seenmy acquaintances, friends, mentioning to me that it all looks
nice in conferences andpresentations but in actual life, it isnot. A general technique orprinciple cannot apply to everyindividual’s dreams andaspirations.
But I beg to differ here.
I strongly believe it is just not theright technique required to achievethe goal but the right mindset toaccept the things as they are, analyse and then arrive at a cleardefined goal that willpredetermine your action toachieve that.
Success in today’s modernindustrial world is linked to thecapacity of achieving long termgoals. Whether it is long term orshort term, achieving your desired
goals or dreams can be possibleonly from any or all of thefollowing plans of action:1- Make a step by Step Plan.2-Motivate yourself by drawinginspiration from the person or rolemodel who has achieved his or herwell defined goals.3- Share your goals with thoseclose to you, that will increase yourmotivation.4- Analyse and Visualize what ifyou don’t achieve your goals.5- Analyse and Visualize what ifyou achieve your goals.6- Replace the emerging negativethoughts with positive thoughtsand confidence.7- Make Yourself feel good whenyou see the progress towards yourgoal.8- Have a constant check on your
progress path.9- Visualize how your life wouldbe once you achieve your definedgoal.
These are not just plans of actionbut the inspirational /motivational steps which havebeen tried, tested and proved tobe successful while implementing.Be it a layman car mechanic or arenowned personality like AlbertEinstein, the basic ingredient toachieve success is that to belief inself, your dreams /goals and beinspirational in every step toachieve what you want to.
