FYI

FYI: New MUC COurseNew MUC County Course Available with Instruction: Career Explorations (MS) taught by Laurie Senich. This is a semester course. Helps with FTE Funding as student (w/health) can have 5 courses for year.

Career Explorations: SyllabusIntended for eighth-grade students, this one-semester course provides an overview of careers available today and helps students identify careers that may suit them. Course content covers the importance of work to individuals and society; the difference between a job and a career; identifying personal strengths, weaknesses, and interests and how they apply to possible careers; the importance of proper work etiquette; and an exploration of various careers in several career clusters. Students complete self-evaluations to determine which careers may be of interest to them. Assignments, including research and interviews, supplement the instructional content and provide a hands-on approach to creating a career plan for the future.* = .5 credit course/One semester course

FYI: Chain of Command

Students should be ‘educated’ on how to go about solving or fixing problems with content, technical issues, or other questions.

What system do you have in place? How do you develop students to know where to go first?

Ways to move around Peak as an Instructor

What can you do in Peak?

Credit Recovery Coureses vs A+ Courses

CR is Adaptive

3 minutes: What FYI Did we miss?

Speak with your group and see if there are any problems we missed in the FYI section that we can cover right now?

Something that came up and you/we figured it out that the group might benefit from knowing.

2. Career PathwaysIndustry Credentials via FuelEd

What is this all about?

Students must have one of three options complete prior to graducation…1. Non-Remediated ACT Score (24+ comp)2. Ohio Honors Diploma3. Industry Credentials in one of 12 fields (12 points + Pass Industry Credential Test)

Enter FuelEd as an option

You’ll need to look at ODE for one of the three

categories

Click to visit the ODE Site for CTE

#1: Blended Learning • FuelEd

• Provides courses that can prepare students for certification exams

• All 3 of the focus career fields, plus other options• Options to use FuelEd teacher or district teacher

• Other• Pearson e-Courses (Microsoft)• ACA Test Prep from Brainbuffet (Adobe)

#2: Amend an Existing Course• Do any of your current course offerings use programs that

can earn points towards an IRC?• Microsoft or Adobe?• Pro Tools, CIW Web, Oracle, CISSP, etc?

• If so, do they meet the competency requirement to prepare the student for the certification exam?

• If not, we can alter the existing curriculum to meet the standard

• We can also combine points earned in this class (if it’s not the full IRC) with those earned in other classes to earn a full IRC

#3: Create a New Course• Would likely be coded in EMIS as a Visual Art Course or a

Business Education (Non-Career Technical) Course• Business Ed - Microsoft• Visual Art - Adobe

Course Title: Computer Applications• EMIS Code: 036000• Standards: NBEA• Certifications: Microsoft Word,

PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook

Title: Graphic Arts• EMIS Code: 020320• Standards: OLS – Visual Art• Certifications: Adobe InDesign,

Illustrator, and Photoshop

Examples

#4: Embed IRC into Multiple Classes• Provides flexibility• Embeds certifications into classes students are already

taking (and probably using programs teachers are using)• Recommended that we embed credential into classes that are

required but not tested

IRC: Business and Finance • Microsoft Word in ELA 11 (3)• Microsoft Excel in Algebra II (3)• Microsoft Access in Chemistry (3)• Microsoft PowerPoint in Soc.

Studies 12 (3)

ExamplesIRC: Information Technology• Microsoft Word in ELA 11 (3)• Microsoft Excel in Algebra II (3)• Adobe Illustrator in Art (4)• CPR in Health (1)• OSHA 10 (1)

FuelEd Offers Courses to meet the requirment

There are 75 courses in order to combine into course work to get industry credentials

8 districts are part of a grant:

1. Austintown2. Campbell3. Canfield4. Columbiana5. Mahoning CTC6. Poland7. Springfield 8. Struthers

How will the Grant work for the 8 districts?

Districts will use the same Institutional Admin and Peak System to create student account and enroll students into CTE courses.

Districts went to an orientation meeting regarding the process for seats and instruction.

Timeline for Grant: 2nd semester

Enrolling a student will work the same exact way as it does with other courses.

CTE Courses: YOu’ll Need an Instructor

Can be taught with FuelEd Instructors ($$$)

Can be taught with YOUR District Instructors...You’ll need sections made if you want to use your instructors (same process/Different Sheet)

Spreadsheet is also in 2016-2017 Admin folder

*Website soon too

Who will be using their OWN teachers?

We are having a training session (paid for) for all districts involved in the grant and other districts interested in using CTE (not involved in the grant)

Please send me an email for by the end of the month for dates that would work for you in Mid-Nov.

I have to email trainer 3 possible dates to train.

If you are not part of the grant...can we use CTE courses?

Yes. You will need one of your teachers or hire a FuelEd teacher (industry credentials)

The cost for one course for FuelEd instruction is around $800.00 (can be sold in blocks to save $)

Please contact me with additional questions.
