1 October 2015 NO School on Monday, October 12, 2015 HOMEWORK: A reminder that homework comes home daily Monday through Thursday. We look forward to watching the quality of the homework improve as your child grows and develops as a writer. Please be sure to sign your child’s homework. WHY GIVE HOMEWORK TO FIRST GRADERS? Homework is used to reinforce the following skills: proofreading, capitalization, punctuation, sentence structure, grammar, word recognition, spelling and handwriting, and math computation. It is extremely important that your child’s homework is returned each day because it reinforces skills taught in class and good study habits. It develops the ability to manage time and to prioritize. Homework is reviewed daily and used to plan future instruction. READING LOG: Your child’s READING LOG bag may be refilled once your child finishes all the books in the bag. The READING LOG BOOK should only return to school each Monday for evaluation. The directions are in the log. BE SURE to number, record and initial each title entry. Remember…if your child reads a book more than one time, it may be entered up to three times in one week in the READING LOG. Don’t forget…Raz Kids and/or any other books from home, the county library, etc. can also be added in the READING LOG! Halloween Celebration: Friday, October 30, 2015 Parade 1:30. Party will follow the parade with the assigned room parents. Please have your child bring in his/her costume in a bag clearly labeled with his/her name on that day.
