  • 2010 Ohio Courts Statistical Report Introduction

For more than 50 years, the Supreme Court of Ohio has produced annual compilations of statistics regarding the caseloads heard in Ohio courts. The Ohio Courts Summary, which reflects the prior year’s caseloads, has proven a valuable reference source for details concerning individual court data. However, when a longer view of the data is sought, the usefulness of the Ohio Courts Summary is limited. In order to provide the courts and the citizens of Ohio with a broader multi-year overview of the work of the Ohio judiciary, the Supreme Court prepared a companion report, the Ohio Courts Statistical Summary.

The in-depth annual caseload statistics traditionally reported in the Ohio Courts Summary continue to be reported in this publication, the Ohio Courts Statistical Report. The multitude of statistical tables contained in this report remains essentially unchanged from the tables in past editions of the Ohio Courts Summary. This consistency enables users to continue to compare year-to-year data for individual courts.

The companion Ohio Courts Statistical Summary incorporates the current year’s statewide caseload statistics with statistics from prior years in order to reveal trends in the data. Additional content includes descriptions of the overall structure and operations of the Ohio judicial system.
