Legal & Ethical Issues

In this case and covering both elements of this, the Licensing Fees if anything is brought to contribute towards the show and any specific corresponding things.

A Legal issue that can easily crop up is the bad use of a living person. As my drama will feature on several people affected by the major moment (being the 2015 General Election), I have been extra careful that whatever is said isn’t suggesting a lie or saying rather negative information about someone. Causing slender could see an offender prosecuted and a hefty fine come their way so being absolutely correct about anyone is key to avoid being in very hot water.

For an Ethical issue, the producers must ensure that the entirety of the content, within the show is appropriate for airing. Despite their not being an official watershed on the radio unlike on TV, knowing the boundaries of broadcasting will make a show better and more respected. This is most likely why following the death of Baroness Thatcher in 2013, the song from The Wizard of Oz named “Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead” wasn’t played on The Official Chart Show, on BBC Radio 1, when getting to Number 2 that week. If the track was

played, part of the public who supported the UK’s first female Prime Minister; whom was in office between 1979 to 1990 wouldn’t have been too happy…
