Science Olympiad: Gearing Up For the 2016-2017 Team

What do students do in Science Olympiad? In preparation for state and national competitions, students work on building projects based on different topics in STEM, which not only is fun for those participating, but is a great way for them to learn more about the topics they are doing projects on. There are different types of events that students can select from. They range from applications of science and technology, science processes and inquiry skills, to science concepts and knowledge. Projects can vary from building and creating, problem solving, to testing students’ knowledge of their chosen topics. More information on specific topics can be found at the Science Olympiad website cited here: https://www.soinc.org/short_event_descriptions

For any further inquiries or requests, contact Ms. Patricia DeNoon, Ocoee High School Science Olympiad Sponsor, Cameron Willson, Ocoee High School Science Olympiad President, or Ann Marie Glidden, Vice President. An informational meeting will be held Tuesday, August 23rd in room 508 at 2:15. All are welcome.

Why should students join Science Olympiad? Science Olympiad is a fun and educational group based competition for those interested in STEM topics. It offers hands-on experience with building, experimenting, and learning directly correlated with topics of STEM. Additionally, it can look good on your college applications, especially if you are interested in a STEM related career or university/college.Ocoee High School Science Olympiad: 2016 -2017

What exactly is Science Olympiad? Science Olympiad is a rigorous forty year old competition held every year. Science groups and clubs are formed by schools and these compete against each other. The goal of the competition is to help educate people in STEM. STEM, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, is of inexplicable importance to career preparation and college readiness.

AgricultureOcoee High School Agriculture is growing! Since the close of the school year OHS has hired a new agriculture teacher! Ms. Amy Anderson has a strong background in livestock and FFA. She has lead a state and nationally recognized program for several years at the middle school level and is anxious to teach high school students. Ms. Anderson will introduce new livestock classes and propel the FFA to new heights. Also, Mr. Jordan has been working to develop the hydroponic food project with 4 Rivers and the University of Florida. The plan is to have the “new” re furbished, retro-fitted greenhouse and shade house ready for hydroponic production in the fall. Students will be leading the charge for good health on campus by providing fresh produce to the school. Another added course this coming school year will be Agritechnology. Students will further their understanding from the foundations class to apply agriculture in a technologically diverse world. Agriculture Technology is currently offered as a certification to students giving them an edge in a competitive world. If you are a student interested in the Agricultural science and leadership, Ocoee High school Agriculture program offers many opportunities.
