he public is invited to attend the City of O’Fallon, Missouri’s Economic Development Strategic Plan

Open House meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23. The event will be held in the Multi-Purpose Room at O’Fallon Municipal Centre (City Hall), 100 North Main Street, O’Fallon, Missouri 63366. Mike Hurlbert, the City’s Economic Development Director, will be the meeting facilitator.

The purpose of the meeting is to present the Draft Economic Development Strategic Plan for the City of O’Fallon. The strategic plan is a culmination of all the information

gathering and analysis completed during the planning process so far. The document will serve as the guide for future economic development efforts and move the community toward its desired goals for economic prosperity.

The major components of the strategic plan include:• A summary of the planning process and goals• A list of 38 recommended strategies/action items• A discussion of identifi ed “Special Projects”• An implementation Schedule/List

This is an important step in the planning process as it provides another opportunity for public feedback regarding the draft plan,” said Hurlbert. “The next step involves review and approval by the City Council, so public input is vital and welcome.”

For more information about O’Fallon’s Economic Development Strategic Plan process, visit the Economic Development page on the City’s website at www.ofallon.mo.us/econdev. Or, contact Mike Hurlbert, Economic Development Director, at 636-379-5510.

“What I have to say about the O’Fallon Chamber of Commerce, can be summed up in one word, “WOW!”This is the most active chamber I have ever seen. There are so many things this chamber does, it could be a full time job for a member to attend all of the events. They have events planned from early morning (Morning Schmooze) to early evening (Business After Hours), and lots in between, so there is an opportunity to fi t every schedule.I have made lots of friends and connections through the chamber, and highly recommend it to all! WHAT MEMBERS ARE SAYING

JULY 2013 | BUSINESS CONNECTION | 5

It1’s fi nally here! After more months than we’re used to of rain and cooler weather, summer has arrived with higher temperatures and sunshine.

Lucky for us, we live in a great community to get out and enjoy the season (my favorite with the exception of deer season).

I was surprised to learn that less than 10% of kids today report playing outside regularly while 40% of their parents played outside frequently in their youth. I’m convinced that with all of the activities available in O’Fallon, that surely won’t be the case. When was the last time you took in a ball game? Ticket prices too high at Busch? Tickets start at just $8 for City residents at the River City Rascals Stadium and they opened a new playground for the 2013 season. Baseball not your style? Grab some friends to head over to the free Jammin’ in O’Fallon concerts held EVERY Tuesday night at Civic Park. Spend the day “Out Fishin’” at Lake Whetsel in Ft. Zumwalt Park or splash around at Alligator Creek Aquatic Center.

The point of my O’Fallon rundown is that there is plenty to do and enjoy outside of your house. O’Fallon is continually ranked as one of the Best Places to Live in America, so get out and take advantage of all that our community has to offer.

Speaking of taking advantage of what is offered; I’d like to thank everyone who has taken advantage of your Chamber membership. As I mentioned at the beginning of the year, our goal is to once again increase participation in 2013; June was a great month! We hosted our largest ever Morning Schmooze event, opened a third Leads Group, as well as one of our highest attended luncheons and business after hours. Let’s keep up great work to keep our Chamber strong!

Until next month,Adam Hopper2013 Chairman of the Board

#1 IN PARTS AND SERVICE

eremy Jacobs is a college drop-out who has made a name for himself by successfully growing a

business his father started in the basement of the family home; to an Inc500 company that now resides in a 20,000 square foot warehouse and employs 19 people. Jeremy decided to pursue a degree in engineering after high school and choose Missouri University of Science and Technology for his education. After 2 years at school, he came to the conclusion that engineering was not the correct career path. He came back to St. Charles and began working for his father.

Jeremy Jacobs has been with Fitness Plus Equipment Services since 1997. The business began in a basement in St. Charles and quickly grew into a 5,000 square foot warehouse space in O’Fallon, MO. In 2011 as the business continued to expand a larger space was sought and Fitness Plus relocated once again to a 20,000 square foot warehouse space in Wentzville, MO. The rapid growth of Fitness Plus was recognized by Inc. Magazine in 2010 as one of the

fastest growing private companies in the country, ranked as #363 on their annual Inc500 list, and the fastest growing company in Missouri. In 2011, Fitness Plus was ranked again at #613 on their Inc5000 list, falling just short of the prestigious top 500.

Fitness Plus repairs exercise equipment in the greater St. Louis area, performing maintenance and repair services on site at health clubs, hospitals, hotels, homes, and anywhere there is exercise equipment. Their mission statement is, “We WILL be the fi rst thought and fi nal authority with our customer’s equipment”.

Jeremy and his father John run the business together and believe their desire to maintain Christian ethics and principles in the work environment, putting biblical ethics and values into practice while running their business, is one of the key factors in the success and growth of Fitness Plus. They believe their role as stewards of “God’s Business” is not to be taken lightly and pray often for wisdom and direction. Jeremy has always been an innovator and enjoys fi nding new ways to solve problems. As a child

he was always taking things apart and putting them back together. His mother at one point bought him a typewriter from a garage sale just so he could take it apart and put it back together. Jeremy’s insatiable desire to make things work better spills over into his business savvy and has helped him expand the scope of the business.

Fitness Plus Equipment Services is a company that puts a high priority on customer satisfaction. They will work tirelessly to make sure their customers are pleased with the quality of the job. They keep a large inventory of parts in stock which allows most jobs to be completed quickly with very little down time for the machine. Many times the repair can be completed in 1 or 2 visits because of the ample warehouse space and the parts that Fitness Plus keeps in stock.

Fitness Plus Equipment Services is located at 108 Hamilton Industrial Ct. in Wentzville. You can fi nd moreinformation at www.fi tness-plus.net or by calling 636-379-1952.

The Heritage & Freedom Fest opens on Tuesday, July 2, with Family Night, featuring a carnival and midway, only, from 5 –10 p.m. Live entertainment, fi reworks, kids’ activities and food will be added to the fun on Wednesday and Thursday. On July 3, the festival grounds will be open from 5 – 11 p.m., and on July 4, from noon – 10 p.m. Admission and parking are free, and free shuttle service will be provided on July 3-4.

“The whole community is invited to come celebrate our freedom and America’s birthday and have a great time,” said Marsha Seymour, Manager of O’Fallon’s Offi ce of Tourism and Festivals. “A highlight of the festival is a chance to see nationally-known entertainers performing for free right here in our hometown. And, as the music ends each night, the Jena ‘Dusty’ Mielke Fireworks Spectacular will light up the sky.”

Each night features different headline entertainment. Wednesday is country music night with country stars Jack Ingram and Josh Kelley. On Thursday, top billing goes to rock ‘n roll, with The Clementines and Superjam performing in the afternoon, and rock headliners Spin Doctors and Cowboy Mouth on the Main Stage in the evening.

In addition to Main Stage concerts on July 3 and 4, the Heritage & Freedom Fest features the Kid Davie Variety Show with magic and illusion, and Team Rock’s Extreme Martial Arts Show with high-fl ying, brick-breaking fun. In the Kids’ Area, Cowboy Randy Erwin will bring the Old West to life on July 3 with his rope tricking, yodeling cowboy extravaganza. On July 4, Adrenaline Explosion

Cheerleading will perform.

“In addition to the biggest festival in the county and great music, we also have the awesome Heritage & Freedom Fest Parade in downtown O’Fallon” said Seymour. “It’s traditional for spectators to dress in red, white and blue. The parade starts at 9:30 a.m. on July 4th near City Hall, heads north on Main Street, turns east on Tom Ginnever and ends at T.R. Hughes Boulevard near the festival grounds.

Before you go, here are some helpful things to know:• Save 50% on the cost of carnival rides – buy tickets in advance, now through Monday, July 1, at the Renaud Spirit Center (636-474-2732) or O’Fallon’s Parks and Recreation Offi ce (636-379-5606).
