Speakers from the service-providing industry will also be invited during the two-day internaonal conference for technical sessions, to talk about prevailing technology trends. Mr. Abhijit Rajan, Chairman and Managing Director, Gammon India, chaired two Central Advisory Board (CAB) meetings for the Urban Infra

World Expo within a span of three weeks in Mumbai, to form a roadmap for the forthcoming international conference. The panel, comprising of 15 eminent industry leaders, met at Gammon India’s office to discuss the topical issues that should be covered in the two-day international congress that will be organised concurrently with the Urban Infra World Expo in Mumbai. Mr. Rajan said that the conference should aim to highlight the topical issues that the industry is dealing with, and thereby bring them to the notice of authorities like the Planning Commission to ensure much-needed change. The 12th Plan envisages investment of USD 1 trillion in

the infrastructure space, which would offer enormous opportunities for Indian as well as international players. However, it is imperative for the industry, as well as the regulatory authorities, to jointly address the issues which continue to challenge the growth of this industry.

The board members unanimously agreed that inviting representatives from the Indian Government during the conference would add immense value to the conference programme. In response to this, Mr. Hemant Shetty, CEO, Chemtech Foundation and Jasubhai Media, said that during one of his recent meetings with Mr. Saugata Roy, Minister of State for Urban Development and Planning, who is already a patron of 2011, Roy had urged to see the plan of action for the conference to ask for delegates from various departments of the Ministry. The panel further discussed the possibility of inviting heads of some of the municipal corporations from other countries where existing infrastructure has been revamped to match contemporary requirements, and consider if, and how, these models can be translated in the Indian context.

The panel also brainstormed over sustainable development of the country’s infrastructure and the dire need to address various issues such as project approvals, cost and time overruns, bidding process and permission from the statutory authorities. Documentation, planning and low-cost

housing etc. were some of the other topics that emerged during the discussions. Similarly, the members discussed issues such as the rapid increase in development of urban areas, environmental threats, optimum utilisation of energy and water resources, space constraints, and waste and wastewater treatment etc. in detail.

CAB members formed five committees and unanimously selected the heads for each of these to move ahead in a focused manner. The panel selected Mr. Ram Babu Cheruvu, Managing Director, Esquire CMAC Pvt. Ltd., as the Head of the Construction Equipment and Materials Committee and Dr. Narendra D Patel, Chairman, Indian Association of Structural Engineers, to head the Structural / Builders Committee. The board suggested the names of Ar. Premnath, Chief Executive Officer, Prem Nath & Associates, to Head the Architectural Committee and Mr. K K Taparia, Deputy MD, Universal Construction Machinery, to head the Construction Machinery Committee.

Mr. Ramesh Agarwal, Group Chairman, Agarwal Packers & Movers, will Head the Logistics and Transport Committee. The board decided to organise a meet in the city of Hyderabad and invitations to be extended to players from major associations, infrastructure companies and allied sectors from the Southern part of the country. The meeting is scheduled to be on the 24th September 2011 and the same is being intimated to the board.

Jasubhai Media launched the UIWE roadshow, the pre-event promotional activity for its infrastructure event Urban Infra World

Expo (UIWE), with a bang. It started from Mumbai, with three meets happening within a short span, in association with Fire Safety and Security Association (FSAI), Electrical

Contractors’ Association of Maharashtra (ECAM) and Indian Society of Lighting Engineers - Mumbai Chapter (ISLE).

As a part of the UIWE promotional activities, roadshows have been scheduled in association with the prominent industry-related associations at different cities such as Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Pune, New Delhi and Ahmedabad. The first one of the series was scheduled on 17th June 2011 at the MIG Club, Bandra, Mumbai,

in association with FSAI, followed by the second on 28th June at Hotel Atithi, Vile Parle, in association with ECAM and the finally, the third on 5th July 2011 at the MIG Club, Bandra, in association with ISLE - Mumbai Chapter.

The networking meet at FSAI had about 60 of the top companies from the Fire Safety

and Security sector present. A presentation on Bio-metrics – A New Line of Defence was made by Ingersoll Rand. Mr. Pramoud Rao, Managing Director, Zicom Electronic Security Systems Ltd., was felicitated for his dynamic leadership and contribution to FSAI. FSAI-Mumbai also celebrated the 200-members milestone. There was representation from companies like Tyco Thermal Controls, Innovative Ideals and Services, Micro Technologies, Elmark Engineers, Startech Engineers and many others.

UIWE pre-event promotional activity kicks off in Mumbai

60 of the major electrical contractors with significant presence in the infrastructure industry attended the meet in Mumbai, organised in association with ECAM. Mr. Satish Kazi, Director, ECAM, urged all the members to support and participate in the forthcoming Urban Infra World Expo, and encouraged them to spread the word amongst their business associates.

The meet with ISLE drew a crowd of around 85 professionals from various infrastructure and allied sectors. Representatives from Uhde India, Godrej Properties, Aker Solutions, Bajaj Electrical Ltd, Crompton Greaves Ltd, Reliance Infrastructure, International Copper Promotion Council (India) and many other organisations attended the networking meet. Mr. K. Naveen, General Manager, Bajaj Electricals, presented a paper on the pros and cons of LED lighting, which was followed by a paper on effective and artistic usage of lights to create the desired mood by Mr. Abhijit Salunke, Lighting Designer, Bueno Lighting Design. Dr. Prakash Barjatia, Chairman, ISLE, extended the invitation to the ISLE members to actively participate in the UIWE.

During all the meets, presentations were made on UIWE to enlighten the guests about the forthcoming industry meet, the Central Advisory Board and the group’s AEC World Expo.
