On March 24, Clan Suibhne (with Charlie Farrell and John Curran) will perform Irish traditional ballads, with authentic Irish instruments, and wonderful singing. The large gallery room will be filled with the exciting music associated with St. Patrick’s Day. The gallery rooms will open at 7:00, and the concert runs from 8:00 to 10:00 pm, with refreshments served during an intermission where you can meet the musicians and engage in conversations with other audience attendees. Concert Series in the Studio Letter From The President Well, here I am again everyone, back after only one month. This is a wonderful thing as we can now provide our membership with any additional new information on a monthly basis again. In addition you will have the choice of printing out the Newsletter, either from our website or from an email sent to you. I cannot say this without a huge “Thank You” to Mary Jo Austin and those who aided her in getting our newsletter posted on our website and copies for the mailing. To say it was a daunting task to complete is putting it mildly, but she came through, and several leads for a permanent newsletter designer and staff. Bravo! Please to go to our website, http://ocartistsguild.org for all the information you will need about all that is happening at your Guild. We all should make a habit of checking our website more often as there may be changes we may not be aware of. This includes new Workshops, Classes, Monthly Demos and, of course, our popular Concerts at the Guild. Stay warm my friends, can Spring be far away? From the Gallery Chair:A Very Special Show in June in All Galleries

The name of the show: The Beauty of New JerseyA Special Themed Show, by our members only, all about

Jersey. We live in an amazing state with many different landscapes and diversities. Our artists will capture their favorite places in all types of mediums. Here at the shore we have so very much to work with. Try to challenge your skills and views by exploring to other parts of the state.

Here are a few ideas to consider: farmland, and farm markets, horses, pine lands, state birds, state flowers, parks, skylines, historical towns and buildings, myths and legends (Jersey devil). If you can, a 4x6 photo inspiration can be hung with the artwork. Please consider smaller sizes of art to allow more work to be hung in the galleries, no larger than 24x34. There will be a small fee of $3.00 per entry to cover basic costs. Along with your entry, will be a request to bring in a can or dry goods to go to the Monmouth and Ocean Counties Food Bank. There will be a voting fee of ($1.00) to select “Best in Show” a fee of $1.00. This fee will go to a local charity decided by our Board members.

Demonstration In the Galleries

George ChosichWe are extraordinarily lucky to have painter and teacher

George Chosich as our guest on March 22nd at 7:00. His presentation will be in 2 parts, the first a still life in oils, emphasizing the shadows, which give form to the shapes they create, and the second a portrait, using a similar premise, but with more concern given to the way the light behaves on the surface of the features. In essence, George dissects the face down to forms created by light and shadow. He has a fascinating new way of seeing; one that has taken many years to perfect.

You will not want to miss this inspirational presentation.

March 22nd at 7:00pmGallery I • Gallery Committee Show

Members of the Gallery Committee will be showing their work. We are a very eclectic group of artists.

There will be watercolors, multi-media, photos, oil, acrylic, and sculpture. This will be a very serendipitous display. Members of the committee for 2017 are Geri Ambrose, Fran Von Ostrand, Sally Cornelison, Donna Nicosia, Tom Miller, Tamara Woronczuk, Betty Lou Cox, and Denise Grey.

This group assists solo artists with their gallery shows, hangs all artwork, and has been hosting all the receptions here at the guild.

Gallery II • Betty Lou Cox “The Places I’ve Been, the Memories I’ve Created”

Travel and Art, a perfect match. New experiences internationally, as well as locally provide fascinating inspiration for creating art. Art placed in your home or office, will remind you of great memories every time you see it. Art has been part of my life since I was a child. Experiencing and exploring as an art major in high school and attending the Fashion Institute of Technology, NYC has increased my drive to learn more. As an adult I traveled within the USA and to Europe, learning new techniques from very experienced teachers. Many instructors have inspired me to challenge myself to explore and practice new techniques whenever I put a brush to a piece of watercolor paper. Local art in this show includes sailboat races on the Metedeconk River, New Jersey gardens and even a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. International art includes Provence France, Spain along the Mediterranean Sea and the countryside of Ireland. I hope my Watercolor Art show gives you inspiration to travel and explore new locations locally and internationally. My tag line is “Capture It, Create It, and Remember It”. I capture subjects in a photo, then create a watercolor so that my customers have a memory to enjoy for a lifetime. I hope my Watercolor Art will bring you some happiness and enhance your home or office.

Gallery Art PickupIf you are unable to pick up your valuable artwork or arrange to have a friend pick up for you, we will have to store it in the Carriage House. Although it will be stored with care, please understand that the Carriage House is not a climate controlled environment. We can no longer store these works of art indefinitely. Please be aware, as has been previously stated, after one (1) month the artwork becomes the property of Ocean County Artists’ Guild to auction, sell or to be donated to charity.
